LELO Insignia Alia Vibrator Review

The LELO Insignia Alia Vibrator was sent to me free of charge in exchange for a fair and honest review. As you may notice, I do like my LELOs and the newer Insignia range (Alia, Soraya and Isla) really captured my interest with the finger loops and new shapes.

Being a huge fan of intense clitoral stimulation the LELO Insignia Alia Vibrator appealed with what looked to be an easy to use oval shape with LELO’s famed powerful vibrations as well as the golden coloured ABS plastic finger loop in the centre for precisely targeted stimulation.

Delivery was fast, discreet and professional.

I have the black LELO Insignia Alia Vibrator, but it is also available in the LELO shades of petal pink (like my LELO Gigi) or deep rose (which is more like purple – like my Deep Rose LELO Iris). It has a medical grade silicone outer, with the golden colour ABS plastic finger loop area as a contrast both in terms of colour and feel. It isn’t too heavy to hold in the hand either.

The LELO Insignia Alia Vibrator is almost 3.5 inches in height to the tip, measuring in a straight line not round the curve. It measures 2.1 inches across the front (over the finger loop area) at the widest point of the oval.

The actual finger loop space measures approximately 1 inch across and 1.5 inches in height.

As well as the main feature of the LELO Insignia Alia Vibrator, in the box you also get:

  • Black satin storage bag with drawstring closure and LELO tag
  • Sachet of LELO Personal Moisturising Lubricant
  • LELO Insignia User Manual (includes instructions for Soraya, Isla and Alia, in 7 languages)
  • The LELO 1 year warranty / 10 year quality guarantee
  • ‘Dos and Do Nots’ leaflet
  • Wall plug recharging lead

At first you may be wondering where to plug in the charging lead to your LELO Insignia Alia Vibrator. At the bottom of the toy there is a small, discreet opening (not quite a hole) where you push the charging lead into. You need to be quite firm about this, despite feeling like you might actually be breaking your £80+ new vibe. It’s quite scary actually.

You push the end of the charging lead in and it connects with a slight click. You can tell if you’ve done it right when you plug it into your wall socket – the function buttons start flashing with a white backlit from the LEDs within. It flashes until the Alia vibrator is fully charged, then will just emit a steady white glow. It takes about 2 hours to get your LELO Insignia Alia Vibrator fully charged and then will give you up to 4 hours of playtime.

To be entirely honest I don’t like running out of power on my LELOs so I tend to check and charge them up whenever I remember. I now need a room entirely devoted to sex toy recharging – or at least a rota system. But anyway, I digress.

The reason the charging lead connecting area on the Alia’s base is so different to the other LELO vibrators – and in fact most rechargeable vibrator sockets – is because the LELO Insignia Alia Vibrator is waterproof (up to 1 metre). It therefore needs this silicone ‘sealed’ area to be able to make this claim. Once you remove the charging lead from the socket area on the Alia, the silicone seals over it and you can enjoy it in the bath or shower.

When I came to use the Alia, I couldn’t get it going, I must have pressed a few buttons – then I remembered reading something about unlocking it. Ok, I’ll admit it, I was impatient and didn’t read the instructions properly. The LELO Alia has a locking function which is great not just for travelling with your Alia, but even just storing it in its pouch in a drawer or box. If you’re like me you store toys together (no, not directly against each other, silicone fans!) and knocking against each other in storage could cause buttons to be pressed and mysterious vibrations to be transmitted from under your bed or bedside drawer at any time.

Despite how hilarious this might be when you have visitors over, you might wish to lock your LELO Insignia Alia Vibrator after each use and subsequent cleaning anyway.

Charging up the Alia automatically unlocks it, but to lock it again you need to hold down the + and – buttons together for 5 seconds. The LEDs within will flash once to let you know it’s locked; then simply repeat that process to unlock it.

The LELO Insignia Alia Vibrator has 6 vibrating functions to enjoy. Please excuse my personal descriptions of them!

  • Constant vibration
  • Pulsing vibration
  • Faster pulsing vibration
  • Ascending vibration them repeat
  • Oscillating vibration
  • Variety of high and low pulsing vibrations

You simply press the central () button to scroll through the functions. To fire up the power (turn on) you press the + button and simply hold it until the desired level of vibration intensity is reached. Press the – button to lower vibration intensity – all the way until it reaches the ‘off’ setting once more. My favourites are the constant vibration on full blast, or the faster pulse for a teasing experience.

I wouldn’t say the vibrations are silent, but they aren’t so loud to put you off using it when other people are in the house. Even on the highest vibrating speed it is more of a loud purr than an angry wasp. On the lower levels you can barely hear it even in the same room.

I quite enjoy using my LELO Insignia Alia Vibrator directly against my skin, it means I can enjoy the powerful vibrations as slowly or as powerfully as I like. If you do like to use lubricant then a water based one is required – and as I noted above the Alia does come with a sachet of LELO’s own lube to try out.

The width of the Alia has been designed so that the top of the oval is wider at the side than the base. This gives more surface area to enjoy against your skin, especially as the vibrating motor is located there. You press the wider silicone area at the top of the oval to your clitoral (or other desired) area then use the buttons to find a function and speed you enjoy.

The buttons are marked so that during use, + is at the top and – is at the bottom, making it innately simple to control even without looking. I don’t want to get a crick in the neck trying to see a clit toy between my legs during use, neither do I enjoy randomly pressing buttons in the hope the vibrator is going to do what I want. The LELO Insignia Alia Vibrator is simple: three buttons, ‘+’, ‘function’ and ‘–‘, all in order top to bottom when you hold it to you.

Yet again I have been amazed by the simple elegance, understated luxury of LELO. Not only the aesthetics but the power of Alia is superb. Ok, so it isn’t as powerful as the Smart Wands, if you are after bone rattling intensity (medium) or soul throbbing pulses (large). It is however, a sleek and finely tuned clitoral stimulator that is easy to use, feels amazing and truly versatile.

I can use the LELO Insignia Alia Vibrator either alone or with my partner – more for foreplay than during sex, it’s a little bulky to hold between bodies during intercourse – and I don’t have to worry about getting it wet either during play time or during cleaning afterwards. It doesn’t slip out of my hand because it has a finger loop. It looks pretty and it’s rechargeable. Easy to store in the provided satin bag.

There isn’t anything to dislike, unless you don’t like the golden colour of course. The LELO Insignia Alia Vibrator lived up to all my expectations and is well worth the price tag.
