We currently have a small selection of collars, but when another appeared on Cara Sutra’s Pleasure Panel, we decided to add another to our collection! You can never have enough collars.
The Loving Joy Bound Noir Nubuck Leather O-Ring Choker Collar arrived just in a thick clear plastic packaging. I would have preferred something a bit more exciting, as this seemed purely practical with no excitement. Nevertheless, we tore into it to get a proper look at the collar within. We had expected a lovely leather smell, but this appeared to be lacking, even though it comes with a label proclaiming the collar to be real leather.
The leather did feel a bit cheap and a bit too manufactured. I love the feel of leather, and this didn’t have quite the right tactile qualities. The leather is nice and thick, seeming to be very durable, which might be why it didn’t feel as pleasurable as it could.
The metal sections seems nice from a distance, but looking closely at it, I started to notice slight inconsistencies. The rivets are a slightly different colour compared to the fastener and the O-ring. The O-ring also looks rather cheap, with a poor, pitted finish. This isn’t a high price item, but these little inconsistencies did bother me.
When putting the choker collar around her neck, the fastener didn’t function as easily as some. It is quite fiddly to insert the post through the hole. The holes are also too far apart. We found that we could either leave it too loose around her neck, or just slightly too tight. Also, with her slim neck, there was a lot of surplus collar hanging loose. It would have been more practical if Loving Joy had released a couple of different sizes. The collar being quite thick leather, the hanging end was very noticeable and just not tidy enough.
She did not find the choker collar to be comfortable, and not even uncomfortable in a good way. The thick leather rubbed into her skin too much, not helped by her having to wear it a little too tight. The riveted ends that folded over to hold the O-ring in place dug into her skin.
We did try the collar with the Loving Joy Bound Noir Nubuck Leather Leash, but it did not clip nicely onto the O-ring. The clip dug into her neck, not helping to keep her in the moment. We could have used the O-ring for other purposes, such as Shibari, but we have other collars that are more suitable.
The choker collar didn’t take much cleaning, especially as it stated not to use it as an O-ring gag. If used regularly, some leather polish would keep it looking nice.
Conclusion
We were rather let down with the Loving Joy Bound O-Ring Choker Collar. Between the quality of the leather, the thickness, comfort and the fastener, it kept on letting us down. Unfortunately, I think that this collar will be going to the bottom of the toy box. Which is a shame, because it does look nice.
