I first discovered clit suction sex toys eleven years ago, when I reviewed the very first Womanizer. Since then, I’ve had the intense pleasure of experiencing a wide variety of clitoral suction toys, in my pursuit of finding the very best recommendations for my readers. As well as trying to achieve the most powerful clit suction orgasm I can ever experience, of course. All these experiences have shaped this ultimate guide to clit suction toys, your one-stop resource to what these toys are, how the technology works, which ones are worth your money and which ones to avoid.
First, a confession. I was deeply suspicious of clitoral suction toys when I received that first one, all those years ago in 2015. The Womanizer W100 looked like no other sex toy I’d tried before, which is saying something considering I’ve been a professional sex toy tester since 2009. And using sex toys simply for my own pleasure for at least another decade prior to that. It was a rounded cuboid shape, with a nozzle at one end. And I was supposed to place that nozzle around my clitoris, you say? And it will feel like oral sex, and bring me to a powerful orgasm? Yeah, I was dubious.

I’m not going to lie and say that in under two minutes later, my world view had entirely changed and I was flaked out on the bed seeing stars from the best orgasm I’d ever had. No, it took my body a while to learn to accept the different type of pleasure clitoral suction toys provide. I love clit stim, but I’d become used to vibration, not this air pulse suction type of stimulation. As I’ve written about separately, I don’t come through cunnilingus, so how could I ever love clit suction toys? A woman who doesn’t orgasm from oral sex? Yet, that’s what eventually happened. Yeah, it was a learning curve, but a combination of patience, persistence and practice, as well as ever-improving sex toy technology in this niche of products, has led to me joining the hordes of satisfied clit suction toy fans around the world.
My top tip? Take your time, use lube, get used to the lowest pulse setting first. Surprisingly, that may be enough to tip you over the edge.
If you have any interest in sex toys (and I’m assuming you do, as a reader of the Cara Sutra sex blog), you’ll have heard the buzz surrounding these toys which claim to mimic oral sex in recent years. The viral Rose toy, the Womanizer range, the Satisfyer Pro 2… and newer styles, like the Womanizer Next and Peach, even toys shaped like a lemon, a dinosaur, or a unicorn. Their arrival has been one of the biggest shifts in the sex toy industry since rechargeable silicone vibrators arrived. They’re also one of the most misunderstood categories on the market.
This is the guide I wish I’d read when I first started exploring sexual pleasure with clit suction toys. After a decade using and reviewing clitoral suction toys, I’m confident that this resource will help you avoid the duds and help you find the right clit suction toy for you, the toy you’ll come back to (and on) over and over again.

Best Clit Suction Toy By Budget: My Quick Picks
If you’re in a hurry, here are my top recommendations at three different price points. Read on for the full Top 8 if you’d like more detail.
Best Budget Pick (under £50): Satisfyer Pro 2 Modern Edition. A reliable, refined gateway into air pulse technology that won’t break the bank. Grab it at Bondara (UK) and use code CARA15 for 15% off; US shoppers can buy direct from Satisfyer US.
Best Mid-Range Pick (£50 to £80): Lovehoney Mon Ami. My 10/10 bedside drawer essential, an enthusiastically-used favourite that just gets the job done. Find it at Lovehoney UK or Lovehoney US and use code AFF-CARASUTRA for 15% off.
Best Luxury Investment Pick (£80 to £150+): Womanizer Next. The toy I reach for most often, scoring 10/10 with 3D Pleasure Air and adjustable depth control. Shop at Womanizer US or Womanizer UK & EU with code AFF-CARASUTRA for 15% off.
What Is a Clitoral Suction Toy, Anyway?
Let’s address the common description of these sex toys. It’s a little misleading, but “clit suction” is the easiest way to describe what they do. However, the resulting confusion shows up everywhere from product descriptions to toy reviews to reader emails in my inbox.
Actual suction would mean sucking part of your body towards and into a sealed chamber, the way love bites are given, or the way a penis pump works. Clitoral suction toys don’t really do that. What they actually do is generate rapid, alternating changes in air pressure inside a small silicone nozzle that you place over your clitoris. Those pressure waves stimulate the clit without ever touching it directly.
The technology has different brand names depending on who’s selling it. Womanizer calls theirs Pleasure Air. Satisfyer calls theirs Air Pulse. Other brands use phrases like sonic waves, touchless stimulation, or pulsation technology. Underneath the marketing language, the principle’s pretty much the same. A small motor moves a membrane back and forth inside the nozzle, creating gentle puffs and pulls of air.
Some toys, particularly the Rose-shaped devices that went viral on TikTok, use a slightly different approach. The Rose pushes pulsing air at the clit through a small opening rather than creating a sealed pressure chamber. The sensation’s similar but the seal is less critical, which makes Rose toys more forgiving when you’re still figuring out the right placement.
Either way, the result is a sensation I’d describe as oral sex adjacent. Not identical, but in the same family. The closest thing I’ve felt without an actual tongue involved. And for me, way more effective than actual oral sex.
Why They Work So Well
To understand why these sex toys have become so popular, it helps to know a bit about the clitoris itself.
The visible part of the clit, the glans, is roughly the size of a pea. The rest of the clitoris, the part you can’t see, is enormous. It extends back into the body in a wishbone shape with two long crura that wrap around the vaginal canal and two bulbs that swell with arousal. The whole structure is densely packed with around eight thousand nerve endings, more than anywhere else on the human body.

Direct contact with the glans can be too much for a lot of people. Many find traditional vibrators either too buzzy, too rough, or simply too direct. Clitoral suction toys sidestep all of that. The pressure waves stimulate the glans and the surrounding tissue without rubbing it raw, without overwhelming the nerve endings, and without the gradual numbness that creeps in after extended vibration.
It’s also why people who’d written themselves off as difficult to bring to orgasm suddenly discover they aren’t broken at all. If you’ve ever wondered whether something’s “wrong” with how you climax, my guide to anorgasmia and why you can’t orgasm is a good starting point. Often it isn’t you. It’s the tools you’ve been given.
My Top 8 Clitoral Suction Toys
I’ve grouped these by design and usage rather than ranked them one to ten, because the best suction toy for you depends heavily on your anatomy, budget and which features you prioritise. I have personally tested many of the sex toys below, with links to my reviews where available.
1. Womanizer Premium: The Overall Top Pick
If I was pushed to recommend one suction toy overall, this is it. The Womanizer Premium was the most polished, refined and intuitive clit suction toy on the market from our testing experiences. Two nozzle sizes in the box, fourteen intensity levels with a smooth ramp between them, Smart Silence (the toy only activates when it’s in contact with skin, which is genuinely useful in shared households), Autopilot mode, and whisper-quiet operation. You can read JustJess’s thorough Womanizer Premium review for the full breakdown.
US readers can shop the latest Premium 2 at Womanizer US. UK and EU readers can shop the range at Womanizer UK & EU. My exclusive discount code AFF-CARASUTRA gets you 15% off full-price orders at both stores.
2. Womanizer Next: The Latest Tech Pick
The Next is what happens when Womanizer rethinks Pleasure Air from the ground up. The big innovation is 3D Pleasure Air with adjustable depth control, which lets you change not just the intensity but how the air pulses are delivered. The shaped nozzle has a defined lip that grips the clit properly, which sounds like a tiny detail until you’ve tried a flush-nozzle toy and realised just how much it matters.
I scored the Next 10/10 in my Womanizer Next review and it’s the toy I reach for most often when I want a reliable, powerful clitoral orgasm. If you want the cutting edge of Pleasure Air technology, this is it.
Buy at Womanizer US or Womanizer UK & EU. Discount code AFF-CARASUTRA for 15% off.
3. We-Vibe Melt 2: The Partner Play and App Control Pick
The We-Vibe Melt 2 has a wider, softer mouth than most Womanizers, which makes it more forgiving on placement and better for anyone who finds sharper, more focused suction overwhelming. It also connects to the We-Connect app, so a partner can control it from the next room or the next continent.
This is the toy I recommend most often for long distance relationships, and for anyone whose partner wants to be properly involved with their solo time. My full We-Vibe Melt 2 review covers everything from the build quality to the app experience.
Find it at We-Vibe US or We-Vibe UK & EU. Code AFF-CARASUTRA gets you 15% off full-price orders.
4. Satisfyer Pro 2 (Modern Edition): The Gateway and Budget Pick
The Satisfyer Pro 2 is the toy that came soon after Womanizer created this new category of sex toy, and the brand is a good entry point if you’re curious but not ready to spend a hundred quid finding out whether you like the format. The Modern Edition refresh upgraded the motor and refined the silicone, so you’re getting noticeably better performance than the older models.
It’s not as polished as the Womanizer line in my opinion; the noise is louder, the intensity steps feel coarser. However, for the price, Satisfyer toys are still excellent. The team and I have reviewed several Satisfyers over the years including the Satisfyer Pro 2 Next Generation and the original Satisfyer Pro 2, and they’ve consistently been strong contenders in my “if you’re trying air pulse for the first time, start here” recommendations.
UK readers can grab a low-priced genuine Satisfyer toy from Bondara. US readers can discover the range at Satisfyer US.
5. Womanizer OG: The Blended Orgasm Pick
The OG was the world’s first Pleasure Air G-spot vibrator when it launched in 2022, and it’s still the only one using Womanizer’s refined Pleasure Air technology internally. Instead of a rabbit-style design where the air pulse arm sits outside the body and the vibrating shaft goes inside, the OG delivers vibration and Pleasure Air pulse stimulation inside the body. This is designed to target the G-spot directly with the same delicious pulsing waves and gentle suction Womanizer pioneered for the clit. The result is comparable to a tongue-and-fingers experience, but from a sex toy rather than a partner.
I cover the technology and the experience in detail in my Womanizer OG review. If you’ve ever wondered about the different types of orgasm and how blended climaxes work, the OG is a fascinating tool to use in your explorations.
Available at Womanizer US or Womanizer UK & EU. Code AFF-CARASUTRA for 15% off.
6. Lovehoney Rose Toy: My Top Rose Toy Pick
If you’ve spent five minutes on TikTok in the last few years you’ve seen a Rose toy. The format works, but the original design has been copied by hundreds of manufacturers with wildly variable quality. My top pick is the Lovehoney Rose Toy, because Lovehoney’s quality control is trustworthy and reliable, the toy is properly body safe, and the result is an effective sex toy that doesn’t cause any worry or discomfort. All Lovehoney purchases are covered by their 1-year product guarantee for additional reassurance.
I scored the Lovehoney Rose Toy 9/10. The toy is lightweight and the shape sits comfortably in your hand, the petals provide a stimulating texture to my labia and vulva area during use, and the pulsing air from the centre is orgasmically effective. The under-twenty-quid clones on Amazon and Temu are a different story, and I’ll come to those in the skip section below.
Available at Lovehoney UK and Lovehoney US.
7. ROMP Switch X: The Affordable Real Pleasure Air Pick
ROMP is owned by the same parent company as Womanizer and We-Vibe, and the Switch X is essentially their entry-level Pleasure Air toy. It uses a simplified version of the same technology that powers the Premium 2, but at roughly half the price. For anyone who wants the real Pleasure Air experience without stretching to a full Womanizer, this is the answer.
A note that I haven’t tested this toy yet, so I can’t share my personal experiences with it for the time being. That said, the ROMP Toys family is consistently reliable and high-quality, and the Switch X is the toy I’d point readers to when the Satisfyer Pro 2 budget tier feels like too much of a stretch.
Available at ROMP Toys US (with code AFF-CARASUTRA for 15% off) and ROMP Toys UK & EU.
8. Lovehoney Mon Ami: The Bedside Drawer Essential

The Lovehoney Mon Ami is a clit suction toy I happily reach for time and time again, an enthusiastically-used favourite in my bedside drawer collection. It’s straightforward, beautifully designed, and just gets the job done without any of the bells and whistles you’d find on a Womanizer. Sometimes that’s exactly what you want from a sex toy. Ten intensity settings, fully waterproof, body-safe silicone, and a defined nozzle that maintains the seal nicely.
I scored the Lovehoney Mon Ami 10/10. It’s also one of the most affordable Lovehoney house brand clit suction toys, so it’s a brilliant choice if you want a tried-and-tested option from a trusted retailer without spending Womanizer money.
Available at Lovehoney UK and Lovehoney US.
How to Choose a Clitoral Suction Toy
Now I’ve shared my top personal recommendations when it comes to different brands and designs, let’s have a look at what you should consider when selecting the right clitoral suction toy for your body.
Intensity Range
This is the single most important spec, and it’s the one most reviews skip over. A toy with three intensity levels is essentially useless if level one is too weak but level two is too much. Look for toys with at least eight intensity settings, ideally with a smooth ramp between them.
The Womanizer Premium, Next, and the new Premium 2 all offer fourteen intensity levels. The OG offers twelve Pleasure Air levels plus three vibration settings. Cheaper toys often have fewer levels and bigger jumps, which makes it harder to find the sweet spot.
Nozzle Size and Shape
Vulvas naturally vary in size and shape, and so do clits. Some toys, like the Womanizer Premium 2, come with two nozzles in different sizes so you can experiment and find the right size for your clit. If your clit’s smaller or you find broader contact more comfortable, the larger nozzle is your friend. If your clit’s more prominent or you want sharper, more focused stimulation, go for the smaller one.
If a toy only comes with one nozzle, check whether the nozzle has a defined raised lip. Flush nozzles, where the Pleasure Air hole sits almost level with the silicone surface, slip off target constantly and break the seal. The Rose toys, with their open petal design, work for almost everyone because there’s no precise sealing required.
Waterproofing
I am so disappointed every time I receive a sex toy to review and it isn’t fully waterproof. In my opinion, all sex toys should be at least IPX7 waterproof rating, as standard. When a sex toy is fully waterproof, to a submersible waterproof rating, it means you can enjoy using it in the bath or shower, as well as clean it easily without any fear of damage. You can find out all about the IP waterproof rating system with a quick Google. As a quick guide:
- IPX5: Resistant to water splashes and low-pressure jets (e.g. rain, sweat, rinsing). Do not use in any water environment, ie. the shower.
- IPX6: Resistant to powerful water jets. Not suitable for submersion. Light shower-friendly; highly splashproof.
- IPX7: Waterproof, submersible in water up to 1 metre deep for up to 30 minutes.
Almost all the premium clit suction toys are fully waterproof, but many of the cheaper designs are splashproof at best. Make sure you know the waterproof rating of your new toy before purchase.
Noise
If the sound level of your sex toy is important to you, it’s vital to understand just how loud a toy is before you invest. Discretion matters to so many people, whether you’re a parent, a roommate, or just using the toy in a space with thin walls and perceptive neighbours. The quietest clit suction toys I’ve tested are the Womanizer Premium 2 (especially with Smart Silence engaged) and the We-Vibe Melt 2.
The cheapest Rose toys, such as the InyaRose, and the budget-friendly Satisfyer toys, are noticeably louder. Not deafening, but enough to be heard through a closed bedroom door.
Battery Life and Charging
Most modern sex toys are rechargeable, and most modern clit suction toys charge via an included magnetic USB wire. A full charge often provides up to 60 or even 90 minutes of playtime, which is plenty for most people. Avoid toys which use a unique style of charging wire, or worse, replaceable batteries. The technology has moved on.
Materials
The nozzle, the part you place directly around your clitoris, should be medical grade silicone. The body of the toy can be ABS plastic or silicone. Both are body safe as long as they’re non-porous. Steer clear of any toy described as TPE, jelly, or PVC, especially in the part that’ll touch your skin. These materials are porous, can harbour bacteria, and often contain phthalates. Find more detailed information in my sex toy materials guide.
Price
You can get a perfectly functional clitoral suction toy for around thirty pounds. You can also spend two hundred. The difference is build quality, refinement of the technology, design, app connectivity, and brand reputation.
If you’re not sure whether you’ll like the format, start cheaper. A Satisfyer Pro 2 Modern Edition or a ROMP Switch X will tell you if this category is for you. If you love it, upgrade later.
Often Overlooked: How To Use Your Clit Suction Toy
This is the part rarely explained, and the main reason people return their first suction toy thinking it doesn’t work for them. I had to find it all out through trial and error, so I’m happy to pass on what I’ve learned in this clit suction toys guide for you today.
Correct nozzle placement is crucial. It needs to sit directly over the clitoral glans, with a complete seal formed between the silicone and your skin. Position it too high and you’re stimulating your pubic mound. Too low and you’re pressing it against your urethra. Off to one side and the seal breaks and the suction stops working.
Take your time. Use lube, even just a tiny dab on your clit, to help the seal form and to make adjustments easier and more comfortable. I never used to use lube with clit vibrators like bullets or wands, therefore I didn’t when I first started using clit suction toys. Big mistake. It was uncomfortable and the air pulses were extremely drying to my clitoral skin, leaving me chafed, irritated and disappointed. All resolved with a simple splash of lube. My water-based lubes guide covers what to look for in your lubes, and what to avoid. I prefer to use water-based lube personally, as it’s easier to wash off after play and doesn’t stain sheets or clothing.
Start on the lowest setting and work up. Another hard-won piece of advice, as I was used to picking up a wand vibe or bullet and whacking it up to the highest intensity from the off. Trust me, if you start your clit suction toy exploration on a high setting, the sensation can feel overwhelming or numbing rather than delivering a delicious build of orgasmic pleasure.
Once you find your sweet spot, hold still. Yet again, my experience with vibrators taught me to move them around to ensure the sensation was being directed all over my clitoris, to the sides, and moving it slightly away if it was too much, then back again. None of this movement is necessary or helpful when using clit suction toys. The magic happens when you have the right nozzle placement, stop moving the nozzle around, and let the pressure waves do their job. When using these toys, I find an orgasm can take up to five minutes to build, which can feel like ages when you’re used to an industrial strength wand vibrator blasting you there in thirty seconds. Trust the process and enjoy the ride. The orgasm at the end is often deeper and more sustained for me when using a clit suction toy, one of those full body tingle with a spread of glowing warmth ones. A quickie with a high-powered vibrator is fine, but feels localised and not quite as deeply satisfying for me.
If nothing’s happening, check three things. Is the seal still intact around your clit? Is the nozzle directly over your clitoris? Are you genuinely relaxed and being patient about the pleasure build? Rushing or trying to force an orgasm is a fast track to frustration.
Discovering Blended Orgasms by Combining Sex Toys
I’ve been guilty of negatively labelling myself greedy in previous years, but now I’m fully embracing my full-bodied sexual pleasure desires. If there’s a way to layer types of stimulation, combine them to experience new routes to arousal and orgasm, why wouldn’t you? Why stay on the well-trodden path to an O when there’s such a wide variety of different avenues to explore?
In related news, clit suction toys play extremely well with others.
Pair an external suction toy with an internal toy like a vibrator or dildo and enjoy the mind-blowing delights of a blended orgasm. The Womanizer OG builds this combination into a single device, but you can also create the blended orgasm experience by using the Womanizer Premium and any G-spot toy you already own. Unsure which G-spot toy to pick? Check out my G-spot toys guide.
Suction toys also work wonderfully during partnered play. Used during oral sex or penetration, the suction toy maintains constant clit stimulation while your partner does what they’re doing. This is a particularly useful trick for anyone who needs continuous direct stimulation to climax during partnered sex, and it’s worth reading my piece on simultaneous orgasms with a partner if you’ve been chasing that particular dream. As suction toys work best when you maintain that seal around the clit, I find it best to use them during sex when I’m on top so I can control the motion and keep hold of the toy.
If you’re in a long-distance relationship, the We-Vibe Melt 2 with app control turns your regular video call into an intimate date complete with intensely erotic sensation.
Rejects Pile: Toys To Avoid, and Why
That’s right, I’m going there. Many sex toy guides skip over the products you’re best off avoiding, which is a shame as it’s both revealing and genuinely useful. This section names the clit suction sex toys I’ve tried, tested, and been disappointed by so that you don’t have to. I’ll detail the specific product flaws as these are often issues in one product, which can be improved in a future upgrade, rather than writing off an entire brand.
Underpowered Air Pulse Motors
Air pulse only works if the motor can actually drive enough pressure change through the nozzle. Plenty of toys claim Pleasure Air-style stimulation but in practice deliver buffeting air waves so mild they either can’t reliably bring me to orgasm or fail to ever make me climax at all. Sad but true.
The EdenFantasys Wonder Air-Pulse Wand Massager is a good example. The air pulse side was too gentle for me even with the silicone sleeve removed and the pulsing plate exposed directly. Only the G-spot vibrator end was strong enough to bring me to climax, which rather defeats the point of buying an air pulse toy.
The Funzze Honey Ducky 2 is undeniably one of the cutest sex toys I’ve ever tested, but the tail-end air pulse is more a gentle buffeting than a focused stimulation, and the mouth-end flickering tongue is a novelty rather than an effective clit stimulator. After multiple sessions with various accessories added in, I still couldn’t reach orgasm with it.
The Satisfyer Pro Deluxe (a guest review on my blog by Pleasure Panel reviewer Puspus) is one of the gentlest Satisfyers in the line. Some people will love the slow, leisurely build, but if you want reliable climax delivery the standard Satisfyer Pro 2 Modern is a far better starting point. The Deluxe also has a pyramid-style intensity control where you have to scroll through twenty-two settings to step back one level, which is a UX nightmare mid-session.
The InyaRose Rose Suction Toy doesn’t actually use air pulse or pressure waves at all, despite the name. It’s a vibrating nub inside a silicone chamber, which produces a vibration-mimicking-suction sensation rather than the real thing. It’s also too loud for shared households, which limits when you can use it. To me, it looks and feels like a cheap knock-off which is selling on the strength of the viral hype surrounding other, better Rose toys.
As always, your mileage may vary, especially when it comes to what type and strength of stimulation will bring an individual to orgasm. My opinions in this guide are just that, my opinions based on my personal experiences with the sex toys named, or passing on what my team of unbiased reviewers have found.
Poor Nozzle Design
The shape and structure of the silicone nozzle is what makes or breaks a Pleasure Air toy. Without a defined raised lip to grip the clit and create a seal, the stimulation slips away constantly and the air pulses can’t do their job.
The Womanizer Peach is my biggest disappointment from the Womanizer range. The Pleasure Air opening sits almost flush against the silicone surface with only the slightest raised rim, so it slips off target constantly. The seal breaks every few seconds, especially with lube, and the sensations are weaker than other Womanizers because there’s no defined nozzle to focus the air pulses. The contrast with the Womanizer Next, which has a proper protruding nozzle, makes the design flaw obvious. At £59 it’s not the cheapest entry point to air pulse technology either, so in my opinion there’s no good reason to choose it over a Satisfyer Pro 2 Modern or a ROMP Switch X. I scored it 4/10.
Cheap Unbranded Rose Clones and Lookalikes
Avoid sub-£20 Rose toys from Amazon, Temu, TikTok Shop, Wish or any seller you’ve never heard of. The potential product issues are numerous, including actual safety hazards:
Battery overheating and documented fire risk (multiple recalls have occurred)- Materials of unverified composition that may not be genuine medical-grade silicone
- Non-removable nozzles, meaning inside the air chamber can never be properly cleaned
- Motors that die within weeks of regular use
- Many don’t produce real air pulse at all, just regular vibration with a flower-shaped silicone cap
If you want a Rose-style toy, spend a little extra and buy a verified safe style like the Lovehoney Rose, available at Lovehoney UK or Lovehoney US. Your vulva and your home are worth more than the bit of extra cash you’d save.
Red Flags to Check Before Buying Any Suction Toy
A few spec-based things to filter out duds before you part with your money:
- Fewer than five intensity levels usually means you’ll get a jump from “can’t feel it” to “too much” with no usable middle. Most decent Pleasure Air toys offer at least eight, often ten or fourteen.
- Non-removable silicone nozzles mean the toy can’t be properly cleaned inside the air chamber. Lube and bodily fluids build up. Premium suction toys worth your investment feature a removable, often replaceable, nozzle.
- Pyramid-style controls, where you have to scroll all the way through every setting to step back one, are a UX nightmare mid-session. Look for separate plus and minus buttons.
- TPE, TPR, jelly, cyberskin or “skin friendly” nozzles are a hard no. The nozzle sits in direct extended contact with the most sensitive tissue in the body. It needs to be medical-grade silicone.
Care, Cleaning and Storage
Clean your toy after every use with warm water and a sex toy cleaner or unscented antibacterial soap. Pay particular attention to the inside of the nozzle, where lube and bodily fluids collect. My full guide to how to clean sex toys safely covers everything in detail if you want a deeper dive.
Most toys have a removable nozzle that you can detach for cleaning. Use it. The nozzles are also replaceable on most premium models, which is useful if yours starts to look tired after a few years of love.
Air dry your toy before storing it. Keep it in a cotton bag or the original case, to avoid damage from other toys as well as to prevent a layer of dust (if you can ever go that long between uses, of course). Charge it every couple of months even if you aren’t using it, to keep the battery healthy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are clitoral suction toys safe to use every day?
Yes, as long as you’re using a body safe device with medical grade silicone, and you listen to your body. If you notice tenderness, swelling that doesn’t subside within a few hours, or any change in sensation, take a few days off. Hypersensitivity from overuse is real but reversible. Discover more in my article Do Vibrators Desensitise You?
Can I use one if I have a pierced clit hood?
If you’ve got a hood piercing, check with your piercer or test very gently. The pressure waves can tug on the jewellery in a way that ranges from arousing to painful. If you’ve got any kind of clitoral sensitivity issue or pain condition, talk to a trusted sex-positive medical professional before introducing a new toy.
Will a suction toy ruin me for partnered sex?
I get asked similar about sex toy use regularly, and the answer’s no. Your nervous system isn’t a one trick pony. Different kinds of stimulation produce different kinds of orgasms, and using a suction toy doesn’t desensitise you to anything else. If anything, it teaches you what your body responds to, which makes partnered sex better, not worse. Sex toys are like seasoning on your sex life.
What if I can’t orgasm with one?
Some people don’t respond to air pulse stimulation, and that’s completely fine. Bodies are different. If you’ve given a decent toy a fair shot over several sessions and felt nothing, suction’s likely not your thing. Try a wand, a bullet, or check out my wand vibrator reviews for a different style of stimulation before giving up on clit sex toys completely.
Do I need to use lube?

Well there’s no law saying you have to, but from my personal experiences, I’d strongly advise that you do. A small amount inside the nozzle helps a seal form and makes the sensation smoother. It also prevents your skin from becoming chafed or drying out due to the air waves and pressure. I prefer to use water-based lube, as it’s compatible with all sex toy materials and doesn’t stain sheets or clothing.
What’s the difference between air pulse, suction and sonic technology?
Air pulse and suction are essentially the same thing under different branding. Both create rapid changes in air pressure inside a sealed nozzle. Sonic technology, used by some brands, uses lower-frequency sound waves to stimulate the wider clitoral structure rather than just the glans. The sensation is broader and less focused. All three sit under the umbrella of “touchless” clitoral stimulation.
Final Thoughts
Clitoral suction toys have become bestsellers around the world for very good reason. Sure, there’s hype; but the hype originates from real, positive sexual pleasure experiences that differ from using classic vibrators or other traditional sex toy styles. Clit suction remains one of the newest and most fascinating ways to effectively stimulate one of the most nerve dense parts of the body, and for a lot of people, me included, they produce orgasms that feel more deeply satisfying, more top-to-toe effusive, than anything else on the market.
The trick to genuinely and regularly loving your clit suction toy is investing in a decent one and knowing how to use it for best results. Cheap fakes will only let you down. The wrong placement will convince you that air pulse doesn’t work for your body, when actually you’ve got it against the wrong part of the vulva, or you’re moving it about and breaking the seal. Remember to be persistent and patient about experiencing the pleasure. And if your first toy really isn’t doing it for you, don’t give up on the category completely. There’s probably a different size, shape or pulse pattern out there which will do it for you.
After seventeen years of highs and lows as a sex toy tester, I’ve become sceptical of any new type of sex toy which arrives with such loud proclamations of orgasmic satisfaction. Many are a flash in the pan, never to be heard of again after the initial marketing boom. Air pulse is one of the few that delivered, and is still delivering, on its hype.
