Cupcake Vibrator Review: Getting Oral Sex from a Flicking, Licking Tongue Toy

After a terrible experience many years ago, I wasn’t optimistic about how effective this cake-shaped vibrator would be. Still, it’s my duty as a sex toy tester to keep an open mind, as well as open legs. GITM Playbook kindly sent me their Cupcake Vibrator to try out, knowing I have a soft spot for clit stimulation. How tasty was that flickering silicone tongue? Was one taste enough, or did I go back for more? Once I’d had my fill, did this sex toy leave plenty of intimate icing on the cake?

First impressions

The Cupcake Vibrator box is mainly black, with an image of the product and some (very) brief spec details on the sides. I’m not going into great detail about the packaging here because if you’re like me, it’s how the toy feels that matters, not the box it comes in. But if you really want to know, there’s a photo gallery at the end of this review that you can check out.

Side note that for some reason, this Cupcake Vibrator is described on the box as a ‘soft vibrating egg’, which it very much isn’t. It isn’t soft, well, apart from the flickering silicone tongue, and it certainly isn’t an egg. It’s definitely a cupcake. Egg vibrators are usually designed for internal stimulation anyway, and this sex toy is for external. Yep, for several reasons, describing it as an egg is entirely incorrect. Still, hopefully it won’t affect how the toy actually feels.

I got the contents out of the box and set it aside for recycling.

There was the Cupcake Vibrator in baby pink colour (it’s also available in blue), the charging dock with USB-C wire that connects to it, a storage pouch, and a slip of paper with brief usage instructions.

The storage pouch was a little disappointing, quite plasticky feeling and cheap. I had a nice velvet one spare from my own collection that I swapped it out for, but it would have been nice to have a better quality one right out of the box.

The cake vibrator itself is coated in light pink silicone, which has no discernible scent. Tongue to tongue, after an initial rinse, there was no weird chemical taste either. The material is extremely tactile, smooth and silky.

The Cupcake Vibrator is smaller than I’d expected it to be, but that wasn’t necessarily a problem. 3 inches high, maximum width 2 inches. Tongue makes up an inch of the height. (Be aware that the photos are angled which may make the measurements seem off, please take the pics simply as a scale example.)
The other cake vibe I tried years ago was larger, but it was rubbish despite that fact. I only have that disappointing prior cupcake vibrator experience to compare it to, when it comes to cake-shape sex toys, so I took the fact that this one was so different from the outset as a positive sign.

Using the Cupcake Vibrator: Charging up, lubing up

To give the toy and me the best chance of orgasmic success, I needed to make sure it was fully charged before getting down and creamy with it. The Cupcake Vibrator comes with a white circular dock accompanied by a USB-C ended wire. The dock is flat and circular, so charging is best on a flat surface to maintain contact between the metal nodes on the base of the toy and the corresponding ones on the dock. When charging on a flat surface, contact is secure and not easily nudged free. So far, so good.

Whilst charging, a red LED blinks behind the power/operation button to show you it’s successfully connected and charging up. It takes about an hour and a half to charge fully from zero, which is stated to provide up to 2 and a half hours playtime.

I’m also glad I realised before I started that with a toy like this, having a flicky silicone tongue, the experience would be much more enjoyable with my clit soaked with lube first. I kept the pump-top bottle of water-based lube nearby in case I needed any top ups mid play.

As an aside: pump-top dispenser bottles are my favourite for lube, as they can sit on a nearby bedside table or shelf and I can dispense some more whenever needed with just one hand, and without worrying about replacing caps or spilling any. Get more lube tips in my complete guide to sex lubes.

How it works

There’s just one button on the front of the cupcake case; simple. Press and hold and the red LED behind the button lights up to let you know it’s on, but in standby mode. Then just press and keep pressing to scroll through the various vibrating settings. Yes, vibrating. It’s a vibrating motor inside the Cupcake Vibrator which transmits those vibes through the top of the ‘cake’ and causes the silicone tongue to flicker and deliver stimulation wherever you want it most.

And that’s really all there is to know. I told you it was simple. The box says there are 10 modes, plus the standby mode. Make sure you switch the toy off fully after use to save its charge; don’t leave it just in standby with the red LED on. How it feels

I went into my play session with the Cupcake Vibrator not knowing if I was going to have an orgasm or not. I tell a lie. I knew I was definitely going to have an orgasm; I just didn’t know if the Cupcake Vibrator was going to give it to me, or one of my trusty old faithfuls.

The toy charged and both of us ready for action, windows closed and door locked, I laid back and let the flickering tongue do its thing. It’s such a petite toy that it fit comfortably into my hand, and only has the one power/scroll-through-settings button, that it was lightweight and simple to operate during use. The cake case around the rim isn’t just pretty, it’s a useful feature. With its ridged edge, even when I was lubed up I could keep hold of the toy instead of it shooting across the room. I like some things to have an impressive shooting range, but my sex toys aren’t on that list.

Pressing the button to switch it on, it fired up and into life. Similarly to when I initially checked out the settings, right after charging fully, I once again thought to myself, “thank fuck, it’s a powerful little thing”. Some people like it soft and gentle, but it isn’t my preference. I like my vibrator stim how I like my husband ploughing me; relentlessly intense so I beg for mercy but pray none is shown.

Let’s cut to the chase. Did the Cupcake Vibrator make me cum? Yes, yes it did. Is it now one of my favourite sex toys? No, it isn’t. That doesn’t make it a total fail or a vibrator to write off entirely. It can get me there but the style of stimulation isn’t the easiest for me to orgasm with.

What worked best for me is holding the toy so the tongue is lapping with the flat part slapping the side of my erect clit, rather than holding it in front of my clit and allowing the tip of the tongue to flutter against it directly.

If you love oral sex, tongue flicking sensations on your clit or vulva, then you will likely love the Cupcake Vibrator. That’s what it does best. I don’t cum from cunnilingus so although the sensations are pleasant (ok, fucking amazing, but for some annoying reason they don’t push me over the edge), I have to make the most of the fact that the vibrating motor helps make the top part of the ‘cake’ vibrate, as well as the flappy silicone ‘tongue’.

Unlike a previous and very disappointing experience with a cupcake shape vibrating toy, this Cupcake Vibrator has the motor in the upper part of the cake, not down in the base. The motor therefore causes the slim silicone tongue to flicker wildly and seductively, but it also makes the surface of the ‘cake’, across the top, act somewhat as a vibrating surface too. I’m so happy about this. The tongue feels absolutely divine when it’s lapping and slapping against my sensitive, erect clit, then to actually orgasm, once I’m good and ready, I can simply use the vibrating surface to give me the traditional style vibrations I need to push me over the edge. The top of the cake area isn’t powerfully vibrating, but once I’ve got right to the edge with the tongue, it’s enough to tip me into orgasm.

Where the tongue flickering stimulation also feels delicious, which was a joyful discovery during a particularly fulfilling, multi-toy play session, is against my hard, sensitive nipples. Oh god. That fast-flickering tongue, when held at precisely the right distance away from the tingling, orgasmic nerve-endings in my nipple… spectacular. There’s just one problem with this: I need another Cupcake Vibrator so I can feel it on both my nipples at the same time. Or perhaps some sort of bra contraption with them built into the cups, at exactly the right distance to frenzy-lap at my tits’ fuck-me-now-buttons all day, until I can’t take it any longer and plunge into a powerful, nipple-based orgasm.

Pros

• Provides fast, effective flickering tongue stim as well as traditional vibrations to any erogenous zone (particularly suited to clitoral stim, but also amazing on sensitive nipples)
• Small size and lightweight so it’s comfortable to use
• Easy to retain grip thanks to the ridged edge design
• Charging dock connects to the toy well
• Fairly quiet even on the fastest setting, product page states <40 dbs sound output
• Waterproof (IPX6 – IPX7 Waterproof Ratings, doesn’t state exactly which one on the product page)

Cons

• Won’t be your first-choice toy if you’re not into flickering tongue sensations
• Not totally silent, something to be aware of if absolute discretion is a must
• Dock means that charging must take place on a flat surface, or else the toy can disconnect from the nodes
• Would prefer a universal style charging method rather than toy-specific or dock, eg. USB-C lead
• Unsure if fully submersible ie. IPX7 waterproof rating, or simply splashproof, which is IPX6. Product page says both, which is confusing and unhelpful.
• No travel lock function, so take care when storing or travelling with it.

Clean up afterwards

It’s important to clean your sex toys properly after every use, to keep the toy working well and body safe and also to protect you from any harmful bacteria when you next come to play with it. How do you clean the Cupcake Vibrator? Is it fully waterproof?

Well, the box states that it’s waterproof but doesn’t give any IP rating. The product page says it’s IPX6 and IPX7, which doesn’t make any sense – it can’t be both. If it’s IPX6 it’s splashproof but not submersible, if it’s IPX7 it’s fully submersible (up to 1 metre, for up to 30 minutes) and stating IPX6 is surplus to requirements.

I would prefer to know exactly what IP rating it is, ideally IPX7. As it stands, I don’t feel I can fully submerge the Cupcake Vibrator in water in order to clean it, or use it in the bath or shower. I can only smear some handwash over the tongue and top of the cake part, then rinse it carefully under a running tap. It isn’t an insertable sex toy so this isn’t a deal breaker for me. But I would strongly suggest to GITM Playbook to be precise about such specs on the product page.

Final Thoughts

Priced just under £60, the GITM Playbook Cupcake Vibrator offers a lot of powerful flickering, vibrating pleasure that will stimulate you wherever you fancy. It is effective for me as a clitoral toy and nipple arouser, but could also be enjoyed slapping lightly against the sensitive, exposed frenulum of a hard penis, or lapping full-to-bursting, aching for release balls.

Usually, novelty shape sex toys are just that, a novelty. All style, no stimulation. Not the Cupcake Vibrator. This lightweight, comfy to hold in your palm toy is endearingly cute, sure; but its cuteness belies its ability to provide intense sexual pleasure.

An easy to use, versatile usage sex toy which is body-safe, rechargeable, multi-function and surprisingly powerful and effective. Just a couple of points off full marks due to the question mark over waterproof rating, the plasticky storage pouch and cheap feel packaging, and toy-specific rather than universal-type charging method.
