System JO Candy Shop H2O Cotton Candy Lube Review (60ml)

Flavours, flavours everywhere. What a selection of flavoured lubes that Cara had on offer for us during the May Pleasure Panel round. Cotton Candy, Butterscotch, Bubble-Gum. Having thought about it, I thought that the System JO Candy Shop H2O Cotton Candy Lube sounded like an interesting idea. Would this lube slide me back to memories of fairgrounds and fun as a youngster, or would it prove to be too much of a tacky idea and leave me wanting a more conventional lubricant?

My first impression of the System JO Candy Shop H2O Cotton Candy Lube, was at around about a tenner for a 60ml bottle, it was not the cheapest offering of lubricant that you might find. However, as I have said in previous reviews, it is important to find a good lube that you like and that does the job that you want it to.
The lubricant itself came in a really pretty bottle, decorated with all manner of pictures of sweet treats. This may make it an issue to prying eyes, but as we tend to keep things like this away in bedside drawers, not too much of a problem to us. It describes on the front that it is a water-based lube, but what I did like in the corner, is the description that the lubricant is zero calorie. Something that I have never really considered, however, with the flavour of this one suggesting all sugar and calories, it is nice to know that you don’t have to worry or think about this.
The side of the bottle describes the ingredients as: Water (aqua), Glycerin, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Potassium Sorbate, Flavour, Sodium Chloride, Sucralose and Citric Acid.
Obviously the one that will stand out to some people here is the glycerine, so worth noting that if this is an issue for you, then this lube would be one to avoid. Never been an issue for us, so away we go.
The side of the bottle also says that the System JO Candy Shop H2O Cotton Candy Lube is compatible with latex, polyurethane and polyisoprene condoms, so all great there. But a quick warning that it is not acting as a spermicide or contraception in any way.
The bottle has a simple small pop lid that allows the lubricant to be dispensed from the bottle and I have to say that the bottle itself is quite rigid, which meant that the amount of lubricant dispensed could be relatively controlled and any spillage avoided. Not quite sure how easy it would be to get the lubricant out of the bottle when you are nearing the last drops, but all in all a good container, with a small strip past the instructions to let you see into the bottle to get an idea of how much lubricant is left.
So, upon dispensing the System JO Candy Shop H2O Cotton Candy Lube for the first time, it was nice to see that the consistency was quite good. Once put onto the surface you wanted, the lubricant didn’t leak or slide away until you were ready to move it, but once ready to use, it spread really, really well, with a really soft feeling to it. I did find that it did absorb relatively quickly, which meant that a reapply was more frequent than I would have hoped, or would have with a silicone-based lubricant, but nothing to really worry about too much.
The lubricant had a very smooth and soft feeling to it, and in no way did it have a feeling of stickiness or tackiness to it, if anything, it just spread out really nicely with a good slide to it, and just a really, really smooth non-grabby feeling. Did I mention, it felt really smooth.
As for the flavour and smell of the lubricant, I found that the smell of cotton candy was not very overpowering. Often, I find that the flavoured lubricants can have too much of an artificial aroma feel to them, but this was actually quite subtle, and if anything, the scent of the cotton candy was really quite pleasant. As for the taste, this stuff tastes like cotton candy. Just like the fair ground. The taste was not chemically feeling at all, it had a gentle not too overpowering flavour and just a nice pleasant feel of cotton candy. The taste did not linger for an overly long period of time, so was a really nice addition to foreplay.
After use, the System JO Candy Shop H2O Cotton Candy Lube did not leave any distinct residue or feeling of tackiness and was relatively easy to wash off using some warm soapy water. Afterwards, it felt like the lubricant had a pleasant somewhat moisturising effect on my skin and quite a soft feeling was left behind, without any sense of aroma or taste.
Overall, I really, really did like this stuff, it felt great on, did not have too much of an overpowering scent and it tasted just great. I would recommend this as a general lubricant with the added bonus that if you taste some, it just tastes fab. A real winner.
