Simba Ludlow Bed Frame Review (King Size, Ottoman Storage, Midnight Blue, Plush Velvet)
I have been thoroughly spoilt by the friendly team over at SimbaSleep.com! If you remember, I was previously sent (& we’re still absolutely loving) the Simba Hybrid Original Mattress. This month I’m sharing my thoughts on and experiences of the Simba Ludlow Bed Frame, which I opted for in king size, with ottoman storage, in Midnight Blue colour with Plush Velvet fabric. Yes, Simba don’t just sell top quality mattresses, they also offer a range of bed frames, plus bed accessories such as bedding, pillows and duvets.
Although I have King Size, the Simba Ludlow bed frame is also available in Single, Double and Super-King size. There are many colours and fabric styles to choose from, which I detail further on in this review.

Ordering & Delivery
As this item was being sent free of charge in exchange for a product review, I simply used a code provided by the team to order my bed frame with preferred options and awaited dispatch notifications. Communication was always swift, professional and courteous.
Bed Frame Set-up
The delivery people were extremely helpful upon delivery of the Simba Ludlow bed frame; they even took the components to our bedroom of choice, which was upstairs! Each part was kept safe from damage or dirt during transit & delivery by being wrapped in thick plastic.
Ottoman Storage Area
As I opted for the ottoman storage style king-size bed frame, I was looking forward to seeing how much storage this would translate to, and how easy ongoing access would be.
There’s absolutely loads of storage space, as this ottoman-storage option of the Ludlow bed frame offers up to 768L space. This is ideal for storing your alternate season duvet, spare pillows, bedding – or spare clothes, Christmas decorations and that strappy sex swing you get out on special occasions.
If you’re the able-bodied type, lifting to access the storage area should be no problem. The Simba Ludlow bed frame with this ottoman storage option lifts using a gas-lift mechanism, which aids access to this area even with a heavy mattress on top. I wouldn’t say lifting it is effortless, but it’s certainly doable if you don’t have any mobility, flexibility or strength struggles. If you do have any of these issues, perhaps the electric ottoman bed frame would be better for you.
There are 6 storage configurations to choose from in all, including the ottoman/electric ottoman already mentioned, 2 or 4 drawers beneath, side ottoman or no storage at all.
Dimensions / Size
The bed frame is delivered in two or three separate boxes, depending on the size of bed you ordered. Simba say that the largest base upon delivery measures 33H x 90W x 200L (cm); the biggest headboard measures 137H x 182W x 11D (cm).
When set up, I measured our bed frame. By my measurements the fully set-up king size bed is 150cm in total width, with a length (head to foot) of 200cm. The floor-standing headboard measures 138cm maximum height from floor to the top of the headboard.
Beautiful Headboard
The headboard of this Simba Ludlow bed frame is undoubtedly the star attraction from an aesthetics point of view. I’m so pleased I opted for the dark blue colour, as it looks so sophisticated while conveying a luxurious cosiness. The overall look of the bed is understated elegance; minimalism underpinned by timeless high-quality design and materials.
Although I chose the Midnight Blue plush velvet headboard and base surround, the Simba Ludlow bed frame is available in a variety of colours and materials. In fact, there are an astounding 34 colours to choose from, in a choice of 6 different fabric types!
The headboard is a ‘floor standing headboard’, meaning it goes all the way to the floor behind the bed. This is a fantastic design feature, as it means the headboard remains in the correct position throughout the life of this bed and there are no worries about it slipping or detaching, as there often is with inferior quality headboards.
Base Beneath the Mattress
The base underneath the mattress, which also forms the top of the ottoman storage area, is flat all over and extremely sturdy. It’s easily strong enough to hold the weight of a king-size mattress as well as 2 (or more!) people on the bed at any time.
Overall Sturdiness During Sleep & Everyday
The Simba Ludlow bed frame, during use whether for lounging, sleep or other, always feels exceptionally stable and strong. When we have slept in the bed, there were no creaks or rickety sounds – not even when we were doing much more than sleeping…
There are no worrying wobbles or shakes, and there isn’t a hint of being weak, fragile or unstable in any part of the headboard, frame or storage area beneath.
Summary & Conclusion
I admit that the price of the Simba Ludlow bed frame is premium and may seem like an insurmountable obstacle when you first check out this otherwise wonderful, minimalist calm bedroom centrepiece. However, not only do I believe the Ludlow bed is worth the high price tag, Simba have done their best to make their high quality crafted beds accessible to all regardless of budget.
There are various finance options available meaning you can spread the cost of the bed into monthly repayments. For example, the king size Ludlow bed frame I have reviewed here today would be just £22.98 a month based on 60 monthly instalments. You should of course check out the full details of finance options, rates and terms at the Simba website when purchasing.
The longer we’ve owned and used the Simba Ludlow bed frame, the more I’ve come to love it. I mean, I loved the look of it when it was first set up, but after using the bed, complete with huge ottoman storage area, I’ve come to appreciate the high quality and thoughtful craftsmanship in every area of its design even more.
My conclusion is simply: if you’re able to purchase and enjoy a Simba bed frame, you absolutely should! This Ludlow style is simple and timeless elegance, understated sophistication with a minimalist calm vibe, but there are many other Simba bed frame styles to choose from.
