Hitachi Magic Wand

Back in the day, there was only one wand vibrator of choice – the Vibratex Hitachi Magic Wand. Hitachi didn’t intend for it to be used as a sex toy or vibrator and really didn’t like the affiliation, but it was too late. Women, in particular, had already found better uses for the Hitachi Magic Wand than soothing their tense shoulders.

As the Hitachi Magic Wand flew off actual and virtual shelves worldwide to thrill women and their clits with its intense power, other manufacturers realised they were missing a trick. Rabbit vibrators were all very well but the mains powered strength of vibrations from the Hitachi were getting a ton of women off in three simple steps: 1) plug-in, 2) switch on, 3) apply to clit and enjoy an explosive orgasm.

What Are They?

Wand Vibrators, also known as Magic Wand Vibrators, are vibrators generally made for external stimulation only. They have a handle part which has the control buttons, and a head part, and the head vibrates against you to deliver sexual pleasure. They can be battery powered, rechargeable or mains powered.

Wand vibrators are majorly used for clitoral stimulation, or penis/testicles/perineum stimulation, but can be used to deliver sexual stimulation to wherever on the body you desire. I use them for clit stim.

My Wand Vibrator Collection

My personal collection of wand vibrators has grown like this:

I started off with the original Hitachi Magic Wand Vibrator, which was bought for me from Lovehoney -ooooh, probably about 10 years ago now.

In time, I was offered the LELO SmartWand Medium and Large to review, so they became part of the collection.

During my years as a sex toy tester, I’ve added various other types: the Swan Wand, TopCo to name a few.

At the ETO Show in 2013 I was magnetically drawn to a stand bearing my old favourite, the Hitachi Magic Wand. But what was this? Similar, yet different magic wand vibrators next to it. A very friendly guy on the stand introduced his new creation, the Doxy Massager –and it was love at first rumble. I’ve supported, reviewed and collected the Doxy family since the launch, and now own several Original Doxy Massagers, a couple of Doxy Die Casts and The Doxy Don (originally Doxy Skittle).

In autumn 2017 I was lucky enough to add the Doxy Number 3 to my Doxy collection (yes, it’s awesome – read my review).

I’ve kick-started 2018 with a whole series of new wand vibrator reviews, with a focus on the Lovehoney wand vibrators. So all at once I was able to compare between the Tokidoki X Unicorn, Lovehoney USB rechargeable, Lovehoney 8 Function Mini, Lovehoney Deluxe Mains Powered and the Lovehoney Desire Rechargeable Magic Wand Vibrator.

It’s been a buzzing year so far.

Brief summary

Heavier than the Original Doxy Massager, which is understandable due to the aluminium and titanium body rather than plastic. Still provides recognisably powerful Doxy vibrations in a stunning die cast finish in your choice of colour (now available in black, purple, red, white, aluminium and matte black). This work of art is in my bedside drawer -or usually, beside the bed from my recent orgasm- at all times. One of my guaranteed orgasm toys.

Original Doxy Massager

My Original Doxy Massager Wand Vibrator review

Brief summary

The original Doxy Massager has a special place in my heart (and toy collection, and between my legs) because it was my first toy from Doxy and the reason I fell in love. The lighter body -made of plastic- means it’s lighter than the Die Cast, and the vibrations feel even more powerful in this model. I absolutely adore it. However because I also like pretty things, the original Doxy is kept in a case, and it’s the Die Cast I use on a regular basis if reaching for a full size wand vibe.

Doxy Number 3 Wand Vibrator

The Doxy Number 3 measures 10 inches in length, with a head circumference of 5.75 inches.

Brief summary

The Doxy Number 3 powered into my world late 2017 and shook up everything I thought I knew about smaller size wand vibrators. I was disbelieving that Doxy could recreate their signature power in not only a smaller size wand but also one with a metal case. Although not as rumbly as the larger Doxy Wands, the Number 3 gets me there every time. It’s easy to handle, being lighter and smaller than the Die Cast, and switches off in an instant with the light up controls – great for if you’re having a cheeky one. It’s also more portable than the full size Doxys, although it’s still a plug in vibrator. Another one by my bed at all times.

Hot Octopuss Queen Bee

Brief summary

Hot Octopuss’ first toy designed for other anatomy than the penis. This bristle-less hairbrush style/size wand vibrator incorporates Hot Octopuss’ renowned and award-winning pulse plate technology to deliver an extremely fast tapping sensation to the clitoris (or wherever you desire). An unusual sensation but one which works for me. A bit of a Marmite sex toy – some people adore it, others really dislike it. The Hot Octopuss Queen Bee is also fairly noisy.

A £30 battery powered wand vibrator by Lovehoney which is easy to control and has a cute, light-up control fascia. It’s good value for money and can get me to orgasm, but it’s a much more difficult journey than with my Doxy, O Wand or Desire Wand. I’d pay the higher price for a full size & powerful wand vibe, personally.

Brief summary

Lovehoney’s main powered wand vibrator really does deliver. Surprisingly powerful on the top constant speeds. It doesn’t bring me to climax as quickly as the Desire Wand or the Doxy range, but it’s a close-run thing. A good choice if you’re into patterns and pulses, as this wand offers 20 to explore and enjoy.

My absolute favourite Lovehoney wand vibrator so far. Not only is it a full size wand vibrator, in silky silicone, a gorgeous deep purple colour, quiet and easy to control, it’s also cordless and still amazingly powerful! As I have a selection of wand vibrators I’ve stashed my Lovehoney Deluxe Extra Powerful Mains Powered Wand away and I use this one all the time instead. Another one in the ‘by the bed’ pile. Yes, it’s very busy down there now.If I was going to recommend only one Lovehoney wand vibrator, it would be this one. Being so powerful as well as cordless just blows my mind (and body).

Brief summary

One for the unicorn lovers… This Tokidoki x Unicorn wand is unapologetically vivid with a cutesy Japanese styling. The silicone unicorn head cover is removable – which is brilliant because while it’s on, I found it seriously muffled the vibrations. I need to use this wand without the unicorn head cover and pop on my The O Wand silicone head cover instead, which is thinner and allows me to enjoy the full strength of the vibrations. Still prefer the Lovehoney Desire Wand to this one for practical purposes, but there’s no getting away from the fact it’s adorable.

Brief summary

Smaller than expected, but so incredibly cute with it. This smaller version of a larger Lovehoney Wand Vibrator is USB rechargeable which makes for easy charging and cordless use. The scroll wheel was also a revelation in easy operation… however, the vibrations just weren’t up to my (admittedly veteran) wand vibrator demands, plus they were extremely buzzy. As a result, I don’t use this wand vibe any more since reviewing. If you’re a wand vibrator fan, this one could seem like value for money – but if you always opt for a larger, more powerful style, you could be lulled into its false economy.

Brief summary

I really like this cordless, rechargeable, lightweight wand vibrator and it works for me every time. It was a huge surprise reviewing this back in 2014, not only because of its size, and lack of cord but because I haven’t had brilliant experiences with other Nalone sex toys. The Nalone Electrosex Wand delivers thuddy vibrations as well as nerve-end tingling electro pulses. It’s quiet, powerful, easy to use and really delivers.

Brief summary

This wand was another huge surprise. I wasn’t expecting much due to the size, but it was knee-tremblingly powerful! I’ve upgraded to the Doxy Number 3 for my small-yet-mighty wand needs these days, but the BMS motor in this wand (same company who manufacture the Swan Wand) thrilled me for years. The downsides? It’s not waterproof and it’s mains powered so you’re somewhat tethered during use. It is half the price of a Doxy Number 3, so you need to decide which one would be the best fit for you.

Tantus Rumble Wand Vibrator

Brief summary

Despite avid Tantus fans insisting that this is a great wand, and it just has a lighter touch, or you need to learn how to love it, I just didn’t get on with it at all. Wasn’t powerful enough for me, the head was too bendy and the head was the wrong shape. I can only speak for myself of course, but I don’t rate it at all. Would it work for you? The O Wand

Brief summary

Before I used The O Wand I rather unfairly dismissed it as a copycat Doxy, which could never hope to hold a candle due to it being cordless and waterproof. How wrong was I?! The O Wand is incredibly rumbly and powerful, and the curved handle with finger space is easy to hold. I really love using my O Wand and although it doesn’t quite knock my Doxy off the top rung, it’s a close one. The O Wand is another wand vibrator that’s made it to the by-the-bed easy-reach stash. I just have to remember to keep it charged up…

Swan Wand Vibrator (previously the Palm Power Recharge)

Brief summary

Extremely rumbly and extraordinarily powerful for a vibrator a little over standard vibe size which is rechargeable. The Swan Wand by BMS Factory includes their amazing motors, which had already thrilled me with the Swan Whooper Rabbit Vibrator, turning me back on to rabbit vibes. I love that there’s a choice of ends with the Swan Wand, as well as being able to use it for external or internal use.

Topco Mains Powered Magic Wand Vibrator

Brief summary

This wand vibrator has three settings. Off, Low and High. Or more accurately, Off, Slightly On and The Most Power You’re Going To Get, Sorry. Seriously not powerful enough for me; this was a huge disappointment.

Loving Joy DUA

Brief summary

Sadly the Loving Joy DUA didn’t live up to my expectations as a wand vibrator – it was much better as a rabbit vibrator, surprisingly. The neck was far too flexible for me, and the power output just didn’t match my current Loving Joy favourite, the Power Bullet. One for people who prefer gentler (rather than Doxy power) vibrations from their wand vibrators, and who enjoy innovative sex toys and a spot of rabbit vibrator play too.

I measured my own Hitachi wand, and it has an overall length of 12.25 inches, with the handle measuring 9.25 inches of that. The head has a maximum circumference of 7.5 inches.

Brief summary

The original magic wand. Sadly, my Hitachi magic wand vibrator has been relegated to the loft because it’s incompatible with UK mains power, as I’ve mentioned above. Before I was aware of this -and a long time before Doxy buzzed on to the scene- it was my absolute favourite sex toy. I believe it’s still incredibly popular in the United States, so it’s worth checking out if you live Stateside.

Mantric USB Rechargeable Wand Vibrator – I’ve seen the Mantric range cropping up a lot more, recently, and would love to try their wand vibrator. I’ve no idea if it would work for me or not, or what the power levels are like.
Bodywand Mains Powered Wand Vibrator, Bodywand Aqua Massage Wand Vibrator and the Bodywand Mains Powered Wand Vibrator Purple (which you’d think would be a purple version of the first one I mentioned, but it’s not) – it’s quite clear at this point that I’m a huge lover of wand vibrators, but I don’t have any Bodywands! They’re a huge name in the wand vibrator scene, and I think my lack of one needs rectifying as soon as possible. Would love comparing a Bodywand to the other huge names in the industry.
