Lube Reviews

Lube reviews are priceless when it comes to choosing the right type of sex lubricants for you. There are many different kinds, and even within the major types the formulations can differ enormously.

What are the main types of sex lube? There’s water-based lube, silicone lube, anal lube, oil-based lube and hybrid lube. Hybrid lubricants are usually a blend of silicone and water which give fantastic longevity and glide, while many of them are safe to use on a variety of sex toy materials.

Can you use silicone lube with silicone sex toys? Yes, contrary to popular belief. If your sex toy is genuine silicone, you can use silicone lubricant with it. If you’re unsure, try a dot on a small area of the toy (such as the base).

Why should you use lube? Sex lubricant is obviously fantastic to ease the glide and avoid chafing and discomfort when using your sex toys. Particularly if you’re using butt plugs and other anal sex toys, as the anal area does not produce its own natural lubricant like the vagina.

Lube has additional benefits too. It can help increase sensitivity during intimate moments and sex, as well as giving you a helping hand if you don’t produce enough natural lubrication. Lube is fantastic for self-exploration and masturbation, too. Allow your fingertips to roam freely with the help of a few dots of lubricant, and you’ll soon realise how enhanced your self-pleasure session is.

The lube reviews here on the Cara Sutra sex blog provide honest and thorough write-ups of many different types, brands and formulations of lube. I hope you enjoy browsing these reviews and finding your next fantastic lube.

Bondara Essentials Chocolate Lubricant Review | Pleasure Panel

Well, let’s first admit I am really into kissable/edible sex essentials, not only lube but also massage oils, body paint, flavoured lip glosses and clitoral balms. Not only because I’m blatantly someone who REALLY loves food – and sweet food, sadly, is on the top ten of my favourites – but also because I feel they really bring new sensations to sex...

I was too curious to try this Bondara Essentials Spunk Lubricant! Since my guy lives in another city because of his work, I have definitely experienced what “I crave a good old facial and I just cannot have it right now” means; also, having some (fake) jizz always ready for some torrid bukkake play on Skype seemed a fun and stimulating idea. In this kind of situations, after all, play and creativity are the only things that help you survive the relationship I’m afraid :)

System JO Premium Jelly Silicone Based Personal Lubricant Review

Price:
£17.61
Brand:
System JO
Materials:
Silicone
The System JO Premium Jelly Silicone Based Personal Lubricant stuck out to me on October's Pleasure Panel listing as the word jelly implies that it has a thick consistency and there's nothing I love more than a thick lube.

Lubricant isn't something i'd ever considered needing a review really - lube is lube, right? Wrong! This is something I've come to learn very quickly this month! The opportunity arose and I thought "Yeah, why not?"

...when offered the chance to review the System JO Nuru Full Body Sensual Massage Gel I thought to myself, here is a great chance to see if they live up to the promise and can they deliver a high end product that I would consider is worth the outlay.

I received the System JO H2O Jelly Water Based Personal Lubricant as a reviewer for the Pleasure Panel. I have reviewed many toys during my time so far on the Pleasure Panel, many of which are silicone and therefore require water-based lubricants to prevent damage so can never have enough compatible lubes.
YES WB Organic Water Based Lube Review

YES WB Organic Water Based Lube Review

The YES WB Organic Water Based Lube is described on the website as “silky, smooth and non-tacky” and you know what I fully have to agree with each of those points!

Sliquid Organics Silk Hybrid Lube Review

£12.99
Brand:
Sliquid

You can never have enough lube. I use it very often, since sex toys feature heavily in my sex life, but it also makes sex without toys easier and more fun for many people. And Sliquid Organics Silk Hybrid Lube has the best of both worlds...
Sliquid Sizzle Stimulating Lube

Sliquid Sizzle Stimulating Lube Review

9 out of 10
Price:
£14.00
Brand:
Sliquid
Materials:
Water
This lube (the Sliquid Sizzle Stimulating Lube), however, is a sort of combination of the two; it is a water-based sensitizer but it’s qualified as a lube rather than a gel, so it comes in a much larger quantity.

Lately I have seen a new market open up for 'natural lubes'. They have intrigued me due to the more natural ingredients and mostly catering for vegans. I put myself forward to review the Sliquid Organics Natural Aloe Lube for the Pleasure Panel and was chosen.
YES Organic Lubricants and Intimate Moisturisers Review

YES OB Plant Oil Based Lube Review

6 out of 10
Price:
£5.95
Materials:
Oil
I chose to test the YES OB Plant Oil Based Lube with my newest glass dildo which features a very large bulbous head. Normally I would only use a tint drop of water based lube on a glass toy but the sheer size of the head on this made me want to try something more substantial that was going to last.

YES BUT Water Based Anal Lube Review

10 out of 10
Price:
£9.95
Materials:
Water
Texture wise YES BUT Water Based Anal Lube is super thick, it's silky to the touch which surprised me, I've only found that sort of texture before in glycerine containing water based lubes which I actively avoid.

Wicked Aqua Sweet Peach Lube Review

Price:
£8.00
Shop:
SheVibe

The consistency and texture of this Wicked Aqua Sweet Peach Lube really won us over. It is super thin and has a silky gloss like feeling, but surprisingly not runny. I can’t stand a lube that slides off right after you apply it.

Wicked Ultra Silicone Lube Review

7 out of 10
Price:
£11.89
It works, but like no better than a lot of other lubes I’ve tried, but then it isn’t the worst lube ever either, nowhere near. I definitely wouldn’t use this anally, it’s way too thin and absorbs too easily, so avoid for that use I think…

Wicked Aqua Water Based Lube Review

Price:
£7.43
Shop:
SheVibe
Materials:

Further testing confirmed my first impressions… This Wicked Aqua Water Based Lube definitely works for vaginal sex very well, I used it on un-lubed condoms and it worked fabulously when I very desperately needed lube as we’d had minimal foreplay and my post-period hormones were making me drier than usual.
Wicked Crème Masturbation Cream For Men Review

Wicked Crème Masturbation Cream For Men Review

9 out of 10
The Wicked Crème Masturbation Cream remains thick enough to provide a level of comfort and glide that isn't possible with regular water based lubes. I won't go into too much detail but I will say that my partner is uncircumcised and can find moving his foreskin back and forth whilst masturbating uncomfortable unless there's enough lubricant.

Wicked Aqua Pink Lemonade Lube Review

Price:
£8.00
Shop:
SheVibe
Materials:

I had actually seen this product announced on Twitter a few weeks before Cara offered it for review, and I loved the sound of it so was rather excited to see it up for testing. My partner loves the taste of pink lemonade so this was a lubricant that very much appealed to him.

YES OB Organic Plant Oil Based Lubricant Review

7 out of 10
Price:
£9.95
Materials:
Oil
The YES OB Organic Plant Oil Based Lubricant isn’t the thickest lube I must admit, and over time, perhaps with the oils heating up and being squeezed a few times, this lube seems to have gotten runnier and has thinned out slightly from the first time I used it. I don’t really think it’s thick enough for use anally. The texture does mean, however, that you could use it also as a massage oil in a pinch, a use which the product itself claims you can do.
TENGA Real Hole Lotion Review

TENGA Real Hole Lotion Review

Price:
£18.99
Brand:
TENGA
Materials:

What I enjoy about this TENGA Real Hole Lotion is the consistency that has been made to perfection. That allows you to enjoy an ideal smooth glide during masturbation, as you can relax and enjoy the masturbator you are using.

YES WB Organic Water Based Lubricant Review

9 out of 10
Price:
£9.95
Materials:
Water
The YES WB Organic Water Based Lubricant comes in a little tube packed in a box. The tube itself is relatively small and stands on its end. The lid pops up quite easily so you’re not fumbling with the tube while you are in the middle of play. The only criticism of the tube I have is that the opening itself was quite large.
