Coconu Coconut Based Lubes Review (Water, Oil & CBD)

I was thrilled to receive a Coconu Lubes care bundle recently. Coconu provide carefully crafted personal lubricants and oils infused with coconut water and coconut oil, plus other skin-friendly ingredients. I’ve been intrigued by the amount of skin and health benefits attributed to coconut – and coconut oil in particular – over the past few years, so I was excited to try out these Coconu Coconut Based Lubes and more.

My Thoughts & Experiences

The Coconu Water-Based Lubricant feels incredibly similar to my natural vaginal lubrication. This was an extremely welcome sensation, as it didn’t feel like I was using an additional product to enhance my masturbation session at all – besides obviously needing to dispense a little on my fingers first, I could then concentrate on building the pleasure manually and by using my chosen sex toys.

Coconu Coconut Based Lubes ReviewIt’s important to note that this lube from the Coconu Coconut Based Lubes collection is water based, not oil based. So there’s no coconut oil in this one – it’s coconut water, instead! The lube is therefore compatible with latex condoms, which is a big plus if you use them during couple’s sex.

There’s no discernible scent to the Coconu Water-Based Lubricant. It’s lovely and slippery upon first application, adding a gentle, light glide to solo and shared playtimes. It’s easy to dispense from the tube and if there’s any residue once you’ve finished your session, it’s easy to wash off. I found that the little I needed to use during play eventually dissipated/moisturised into my skin with the heat and friction of masturbation and sex.

On the cons side: the Coconu Water-Based Lubricant is a little on the thin side, so isn’t the best if you require cushioning –for example, for vigorous sessions or anal sex. Because it’s quite thin and water-based, it doesn’t have the longevity of other thicker lubes with longer lasting glide-type ingredients. It also comes out of the tube pretty quickly – so be careful! You’ll see what I mean in the little video towards the end of this review.

My Thoughts & Experiences

The Coconu Oil-Based Lubricant was a bit stiff (that’s what SHE said, etc) coming out of the tube, but nowhere near as set as I thought it might be. I’ve previously tried other oil-based lubes which have pretty much set solid in the container, and I’ve had to give the container some time in a bowl of warm water to soften up before use. Although this Coconu oil lube was much slower to dispense than the water-based lube – which was, admittedly, pretty damn quick coming out – it wasn’t an issue. Just a slightly harder squeeze and there you go.

Coconu Coconut Based Lubes ReviewThere isn’t much of a scent to this product from the Coconu Coconut Based Lubes range, and what I could smell certainly wasn’t offensive. Just that clean, cosmetic, oil-type scent that beauty products and moisturisers often have.

When using the Coconu Oil-Based Lubricant, I was pleased with how it turned into a lusciously gliding oil layer over my skin pretty much immediately after application. This Coconut oil lube lasts and lasts. It provides a frictionless layer of protection during whatever sort of playtime you choose, whether that’s alone with fingers/sex toys, or during foreplay and sex with a partner.

A huge and unexpected bonus of the Coconu Oil-Based Lubricant was that it made my skin unbelievably soft after use –even after I washed off any residue with warm soapy water!

Ok, so this isn’t very sexy at all (sorry), but I’ve taken to using a dot on dry skin areas (ie. knees/elbows/heels of feet) as it really softens up my skin. There are truly fabulous ingredients in the formulation, such as sunflower seed oil, beeswax, shea butter, cocoa butter, almond oil and vitamin E. It’s easy to see why this stuff is pretty much miraculous skin therapy in a tube. I can switch it out with the CBD body oil, which is very similar formulation-wise – I’ll discuss that in greater detail in the next section.

Any cons to the Coconu Oil-Based Lube? It contains oil, so of course it’s not compatible with latex condoms.  I’m not a fan of the oil layer sensation, as thin as that might be, remaining on my sexual areas after the solo or shared playtime is over. I know, it’s strange – I can cope with a dot on knees, elbows etc to revitalise dry skin but I don’t like that same feeling on intimate parts of me, like on my labia, anal area or inside me.

Because it has an oil base, this lube doesn’t dissipate or evaporate through use, time or heat. This is fantastic for longevity in playtime but yeah – afterwards I had to wash it off any intimate areas of me with warm soapy water. Perhaps this is just personal preference, and it won’t bother anyone else all that much.

The Coconu Oil-Based Lubricant felt more like a moisturising oil layer on my skin rather tthan feeling exceedingly slippery and providing silky glide. Yes, there is definitely lubrication, but it’s not the super slipperiness (ice rink style) of the Coconu Water-Based Lubricant or other good quality water or silicone lubes.

Differences between Hemp, CBD and Cannabis

I want to take a little time, before delving into my experiences with the Coconu Body Oil with CBD, to talk about the differences between Hemp seed oil/CBD oil and what you may think of when someone says ‘cannabis’.

Hemp seed oil (made from the seeds) and CBD oil (made from the stalks, leaves, and flowers) are both derived from cannabis plants. Hemp is the name given to Cannabis Sativa plants with low concentrations of the psychoactive compound THC (tetrahydrocannabinol).

Products containing hemp seed and CBD oils do not typically cause a high, since the levels of THC, if any, tend to be very low. THC is the main psychoactive compound in cannabis that produces the ‘high’ sensation, which is commonly (but not solely) consumed by smoking cannabis.

So, this product won’t deliver any drug-induced highs – any feelings of increased relaxation and sensuality are delivered through the soothing glide of the formulation and any related ambience you create!

My Thoughts & Experiences

When researching my new Coconu Coconut Based Lubes and enhancers, I noticed that aside from the CBD extract, there isn’t too much difference between the Coconu Oil-Based Lubricant and the Coconu Body Oil with CBD formulations. The CBD enhanced body oil has rapeseed oil and squalene added, but unlike the Coconu Oil-Based Lubricant there is no canola oil, kukui seed oil or sea buckthorn oil. It has the CBD extract instead, I guess.

Coconu Coconut Based Lubes ReviewTherefore, this product felt very similar to me, during use, to the Coconu Oil-Based Lubricant. It’s just so moisturising on the skin. Any problematic dry areas benefit in particular from a small application of this body oil. It’s important to remember that this is a body oil, not intended as a sexual lubricant, so we avoid any issue of it lingering on sexual regions after playtime –which as you’ll have read above, isn’t my bag. In case you do get it in the relevant area, it’s important to remember that oil-based products aren’t compatible with latex condoms.

The Coconu Body Oil With CBD dispensed from the tube slightly easier than the Coconu Oil-Based Lube, but nowhere near as quickly as the Coconu Water-Based Lubricant. I can’t actually find any cons to this product at all; it just leaves your skin feeling supremely soft and soothed, and your body and mind, too.

Any mental relaxation during and after use is, I believe, down to the setting you’re in when using it, rather than the inclusion of CBD in the formulation. Your mileage may vary of course; perhaps it just doesn’t affect me in that way as much as it would others. If it helps you relax mentally as well as physically, then all the better. Personally, I find I’m incredibly relaxed when someone is giving me a massage or erotic rub-down with any body oil or lotion, and the fact that this one is so skin-friendly, natural and cruelty free is an added bonus.

Conclusion

I’m really pleased I had the opportunity to try these products from the Coconu Personal Lubricants range. Not only did they feel sensational during masturbation and intimate playtimes with my partner, I feel that their cruelty-free, natural ethos with the inclusion of organic ingredients will have wide appeal.

When it comes to my personal favourites, I’d have to say the Coconu Water-Based Lubricant is a fabulous go-to for masturbation with or without sex toys, or to provide a quick drop of superb slipperiness during foreplay, particularly mutual masturbation & handjobs.

To prepare for sex with my partner without any interruption, applying some of the Coconu Oil-Based Lubricant to my labia and vulval region beforehand ensures that I’m soft, supple and ready for play.

Using the CBD infused body oil was exciting at first, due to the CBD element. For us, this is definitely more of a relaxing, soothing product to enhance quiet intimate times together, rather than a provocative, nerve-ending tingling must-have during passionate sex encounters.
