System JO H2O Water Based Lube Review

Lubricant is a pretty essential bit of kit for anyone’s toy box. I’m always looking to try new ones out. I’ve been in love with a lubricant and stuck with it for ages, before realising there are better ones out there. So now I want to try them all. When Cara offered the chance to try some sample tubes of the System JO H2O Water Based Lube I happily volunteered.

There are a few things that I, personally, require from a lubricant. I want it to have a nice smell (or no smell). I want it to have a nice taste (or no taste). I want it to last a long time (reapplications just aren’t that sexy). I want it to remain slick and wet (sticky is gross!). Lastly I need it to have good quality, safe ingredients in it.
I don’t know an awful lot about the ingredients in lubricants. I learn more and more every time I come to review one, but I know a few ingredients to avoid. The number one ingredients I want to avoid are parabens, these are chemicals with preservative qualities. The problem with them is that they have been linked to cancer, in particular, breast cancer. Another ingredient I want to avoid is Glycerin(e), which can cause irritation and yeast infections in some people. I have experienced these a couple of times in the past and want to avoid them like the plague.
Basically, there are a lot of ingredients in the System JO H2O Water Based Lube to get your head around but it is worth doing your research. The ingredients in the System JO H2O Water Based Lube are Purified Water, Glycerin, Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose, Propyl Paraben and Methyl Paraben.
When I saw these ingredients I have to admit, it put me off trying it. For the sake of this review it has briefly been used, on my partner (with his consent), although I have not tasted it. This appears to last quite a long time without requiring reapplication. It feels quite thin and oily, this was quite a nice texture during a hand job. There is no real smell to it either and it doesn’t go sticky.
The lube does tick a lot of the boxes on my wants for a lubricant, as well as being safe for use with condoms and sex toys, but it just isn’t for me. The ingredients just aren’t what I want to use. I don’t want to risk having a reaction to the glycerine. So purely for these reasons I have to score the System JO H2O Water Based Lube a 2/10.
