When the heat is rising on those hot summer nights, how do you keep your cool? I’ve previously written about using ice in sex and masturbation, and today I’m very excited to share my icy cool thoughts on a related, fun accessory. When I saw the Loving Joy Butt Plug Ice Cube Tray, I knew I had to buy it and give it a try. But can you really use the butt plug ice cubes in your butt? Or is this just a scandalous party ‘icebreaker’? Read on to find out my thoughts on this quirky butt plug ice cube maker!
Why I Bought It
Why did I splash out on this silicone ice cube tray which makes ice cubes in the shape of anal sex toys? I think a better question is why wouldn’t I? I know and trust the people behind the Loving Joy brand, so buying from their website isn’t a concern, and with a price tag under £15 this sexy ice cube maker is an irresistible bargain.
Besides the adult fun factor and the low price, it’s summer right now and the heatwaves just keep on coming – which make it hard when I want to. I’m a Brit and not used to the recent heat increase during our summer season. Plus, I’m perimenopausal and battling hot flushes even in the middle of our deliciously frosty winter, never mind when it’s 30C+ out in the summer. Our houses are not built for the heat, and neither am I.
All this combined and seeing a butt plug ice cube maker which I hoped would help chill me to the core? I’d added to basket and checked out before you can say ice, ice baby.
Arrival & Unboxing
Delivery was fast and discreet from Loving Joy, and the sexy ice cube maker box was securely packed inside the plain outer postal package. Packaging is minimal and functional, but colourful and glossy, with the box displaying the product name, an image and some information about the product and brand on the back.
The box is card so it’s easy to recycle. As long as you don’t mind something declaring ‘Butt Plug Ice Cube Tray’ going out with your household recycling, I suppose.
Inside the box I found the poolside blue 2-piece silicone tray mould plus a small funnel, implying you can put the two pieces together then fill each section with water using the funnel in the holes provided.
How to Use It: My Cool Top Tips
Wash the silicone trays first to remove any potential manufacturing residue. The set comes with a small funnel, but in practice I found it pretty useless as the water flow from a tap fills it too quickly and it overflows rather than filling the ice cube moulds. I found it best to just angle a gentle, narrow stream of water into each hole in turn. Having a kitchen tap with a flexible head and hose made it easier to angle, but I’m sure you could work it with a standard tap as well.
Before filling with water, make sure you’ve cleared a totally flat space in your freezer. To limit the amount of movement between filling and placing in the freezer, I opened the freezer and drawer first, so that once filled I could swiftly but gently place it directly into the space I’d made and shut the drawer then freezer door. Any tilt and the water will escape, so go slowly and carefully. I kept a small towel nearby to mop up any little spills.
So, each cavity in the tray was filled to the top, I popped the ice cube tray into the freezer drawer then checked it after a couple of hours. I didn’t remove the top section; I just gently felt the top of each area and topped up a couple that felt underfilled. Then I left it overnight and they were frozen solid by the morning.
As the trays are made from silicone, the resulting butt plug ice shapes are fairly easy to pop out from the trays. If you’re worried about breaking them, I found it best to run my hands over the back of the bottom tray to warm and therefore loosen them up a bit first.

Icy Anal Toys: Shape, Size & Measurements
Each finished ice cube (well, shape, really) is in classic butt plug style: bulbous body, slender neck, flared base. Even the smallest is bigger than your standard ice cube, but they’re pretty true to size when comparing to my actually-for-internal-use trio of silicone butt plugs set.
I measured each icy butt plug – as best I could before they melted in my hot house & even hotter hands! – and by my measurements they are:
- Large: total length 4 inches, ‘insertable’ length 3 inches, maximum circumference 5.1 inches
- Medium: total length 3.2 inches, ‘insertable’ length 2.5 inches, maximum circumference 4.5 inches
- Small: total length 2.6 inches, ‘insertable’ length 2.2 inches, maximum circumference 3.8 inches
Can I Use Ice Butt Plugs Inside My Ass?
Finally, the real reason you’re here. You’re wondering if:
a) I really shoved an ice butt plug up my arse? and
b) if it’s safe to do that, so you can go and try it too.
Obviously, the ice shapes you make with this ice cube maker mould are shaped like the classic anal sex toys. Would I recommend actually putting them up your butt? Sadly, no.
I know… devastating. There are a couple of solid reasons for this.
The ice shapes are too fragile
As I found when I popped one of the butt plug ice cubes out of the tray a little too roughly, the ice shapes are quite fragile – especially in the neck area, the narrowest point.
Even if you manage to insert one of the butt plug ice cubes without the entire thing melting in your hot hands or breaking apart, there is a very real risk of the neck snapping once the plug body is inside you.
This leaves you with an ice ‘egg’ inside your body which you can either ‘poop’ out (sexy) and risk discomfort as any fractured areas stick to your sensitive membranes, or leave it inside while it melts and potentially suffer intense discomfort, pain and even shock whilst this happens.
The anal canal is too delicate
There hasn’t been a lot of research done when it comes to the effect of ice in the body via anal insertion (come on, professors – for SCIENCE!), however we do know that the tissues lining the anal canal are incredibly thin, delicate and sensitive.
These tissues are also unlubricated, and even if you dampen the ice shape first, there is a real risk of the ice fracturing and any dry, frozen parts sticking to the internal lining resulting in at least discomfort, if not intense pain.
If you do manage to insert the ice shape without this happening, it’s still at near freezing temperature – which could cause severe shock.
How can you use them, then?
The ice cube butt plugs can still be used in a sexual pleasure context, just keep it external rather than attempting to slide it inside your arse. Jury’s out on using ice inside the vagina, but as this area produces natural lubrication, I enjoy playing that way personally. It’s extreme, of course – I just take it slowly and make sure I run my hands over the outside of the plug first to gently warm and melt it, so there aren’t any jagged or ‘dry ice’ areas. I’m not saying you should also play this way, but if you decide to, stay risk aware.
As the ice cube butt plug shapes are larger than standard ice cubes and the end forms a natural handle, they’re so fun to use over a hot body on a just-as-hot summer night. Again, warm gently in your hands first, so any dryness and jagged edges are removed. It’s easy to mould it into a smooth, slippery shape this way. Then perhaps tease yourself or your partner by moving it slowly over the vulva, nipples, inner thighs and anywhere else you desire or dare.

Add a Sexy Splash to Any Occasion
Even though I found the sexual potential of the Loving Joy Butt Plug Ice Cube Tray quite limited, the butt plug ice cube shapes can still be used in plenty of other fun ways. Pop them into drinks at an adults-only party or BBQ for guaranteed gasps and giggles. The Ice Cube Tray makes a brilliant, low-cost Hen or Stag party bag addition, or stocking filler for a partner (or scandalous Secret Santa) if you’re planning sexy Christmas gifts.
My husband and I just enjoy the cheeky fun of adding one to a sparkling nightcap (alcohol-free, for me) after the kids have gone to bed. It’s a small but easy & effective way to wordlessly transition from being ‘parents’ to being a romantic couple once more, helping to get us in the mood before bed.
If we fancy skipping the tipples and just taking the icy pleasure straight to the bedroom, I make sure I prepare the bed first. Hey, I don’t need to be worrying about damaging my luxury mattress while I’m getting sensually soaked. Popping down one of these fluidproof sheets means I can properly give myself over to the sensations of ice on all my erotic, heated areas. The cold makes me feel more sensitive as well, so that other sexy attention my husband gives me is extremely, and orgasmically, effective.
Final Thoughts
Despite it not being advisable to use ice cubes in your arse, the Loving Joy Butt Plug Ice Cube Tray still has so much going for it – especially priced at just £14.99 at the time of writing. It’s cheap, but it’s effective.
You get three different sizes of butt plug shaped ice cubes, which you can use externally for sensational thrills in the bedroom (or vaginally if you dare), to pop into your drinks to communicate your sexy intentions to your partner without a word being spoken, to induce plenty of giggles at an adults-only BBQ, or to satisfyingly shock your boss during Secret Santa. I love it!
