Packaging
My Hot Octopuss 4 Piece Pinwheel Set arrived in Hot Octopuss’ usual discreet outer wrap for the post, and the items sent for review were securely packaged within the plain brown box.
The pinwheel set itself is a black zip-up case, which was inside a Ziploc bag with branded label, which I’ve set aside to reuse for other items rather than disposing of/recycling.
First Impressions
I was impressed that the Hot Octopuss 4 Piece Pinwheel Set came contained in its very own zip-up storage case. Not only is this a great way to store the pinwheel set, preventing any damage to other items or yourself as you rifle through a bedside drawer, it also keeps all the components together so you don’t lose anything.
The case makes the pinwheel set easier to transport if you plan on using it during a session outside of your home, for example in a dedicated BDSM dungeon or club, or on holiday with your partner. It also keeps the contents hidden so you can move it about discreetly, with the parts all safely contained within the plain black zip-up case.
The main pinwheel handle and the four heads are well-made and it’s easy to figure how to attach whichever one you want to use to the handle -just screw into place. I think the pinwheel set is made from steel, but I cannot be certain as there’s no material details on the product page at Hot Octopuss.
During Use
I’ve always loved using sensory play items in private playtimes with my partner as well as during intense BDSM power exchange sessions with submissives and slaves. The only feature which I felt let this set down slightly is the inside of the zip-up case. Outside, the case looks rather swish and deluxe, but the lining seems to be a cheap red material with a shoddy finish and simple cuts to the fabric where the elastic strap is threaded through. I’d like to see an upgrade to the storage case in future releases of this pinwheel set.
These pinwheels may look scary to the uninitiated but they’re really not. It all comes down to how you use them – just like a bullet vibrator would be terrifying if you were to gulp it down whole with a cup of tea. That’s not how you’re supposed to use it, is it?
So too with a pinwheel – you’re not supposed to press hard enough to draw blood, that’s not its purpose. Just roll lightly over skin and let the wheel do the work… the spikes are sharp but not sharp enough to break the skin unless you really use exceptional force. The aim is to induce a teasing, prickling, goosebump-evoking sensation – which happens effortlessly and immediately when using any of the pinwheel heads in this set.
We’ve really enjoyed experimenting with the various heads in this Hot Octopuss 4 Piece Pinwheel Set, and of course my favourite is the 5-wheel type. There is still something to be said for a single wheel pinwheel, though, as the sensation can be so subtle yet so intense, somehow, that you risk wonderful sensory overload. The anticipation of, then desperate need for, more physical stimulation is almost overwhelming.
Using this pinwheel set while being in bondage, plus being unable to see the next stroke from your partner due to a blindfold, you are quickly transported to an entirely new realm of psychological as well as physical pleasure.

The pinwheels are well made and finished, the spikes are sharp without being dangerous (if you use as intended) and delivering incredible teasing stimulation with them is almost effortless. Despite my slight misgivings about the internal finish of the storage case, it’s not the case you’ll be using for mutual pleasure with your partner. The pinwheels themselves are beautiful and incredibly effective, and I would strongly recommend this set for anyone serious about sensory explorations whether in the bedroom or the dungeon.
