As a mother, I am well aware of the importance of regular Kegel exercises but I feel that it’s something which should be impressed upon women much earlier. Many women whom I’ve spoken to over the years have suffered from the effects of a weakened pelvic floor and these have varied from loss of sexual pleasure, mild incontinence (leaking urine when you laugh or sneeze) and in some cases a full pelvic floor prolapse, requiring surgery. Very few women were aware of the importance of regular pelvic floor exercise.
For those who aren’t sure what the pelvic floor muscle is, it’s the layer of muscle that holds up your bladder, uterus and rectum. Think of it like a trampoline which stretches and bounces in response to weight. Unlike a trampoline however, your pelvic muscles can become stretched and weakened when put under stress, like bearing the weight of a pregnancy.
Just a few minutes a day of pelvic floor exercise can help to keep the muscles strong and help them to recover after a period of stress or weakness. A strengthened pelvic floor can also help to improve your sex life by helping you to reach orgasm more easily and increasing sensation during lovemaking. For those who suffer with stress incontinence or prolapse, your symptoms can be improved with regular pelvic exercise.
First Impressions
The LELO LUNA Smart Bead is a fascinating personal training system which uses innovative sensors to respond to your body during use. Simply insert the small egg and squeeze in time with the vibration to set the program to match your level of strength. The LELO Smart Bead uses this information to tailor an exercise routine which works with your body to improve your overall pelvic floor health.
Because it has 5 levels of exercise to progress through, the LELO Smart Bead continuously works with you to improve the strength of your pelvic floor muscles and progress is maintained even when you reach the highest level.
LELO claim that the Smart Bead helps to improve orgasm, increase sexual pleasure and help the user gain better bladder control. So, if the product lives up to its promise, I’ll be very happy.
During Use
The LELO LUNA Smart Bead wasn’t in the packaging when it arrived as it was a tester product but I can see from the website that customer can expect a product which arrives in a beautiful gift box and can be stored in a soft storage pouch.
The bead itself is in Deep Rose, which is one of LELO’s signature colours and is crafted from body-safe medical grade silicone. The outside is completely smooth and feels firm but soft and has no rough edges that would make it painful to insert.
The shape of the LELO LUNA Smart Bead is similar to that of a pleasure egg but it has a slight curve at the bottom of the bead so it work comfortably with the contours of the female body. The tip of the LELO Smart Bead is tapered to allow for easy insertion and a firm loop at the base of the bead means that it can be removed safely and easily.
The LELO LUNA Smart Bead is a battery operated toy and requires 1 AAA battery. Each battery provides 200 ‘uses’ from the LELO Smart Bead so I felt that it was a worthy investment, particularly at such a low cost.
To insert the battery, simply twist the top of the LELO Smart Bead to the right and separate the top from the base of the Bead. I found it very easy to work out and extremely simple to use. The battery simply pops into the device and twists back into place.
Once the LELO Smart Bead had been washed, a simple press of the power button located at the bottom right hand side of the product gets the Smart Bead ready for use. I could see that the program had started correctly because a small light appeared just above my finger.
The button is timed so I had enough time to insert the egg before the program started. This takes around a minute so don’t be alarmed if nothing happens for a while. Eventually, you’ll feel a 3 quick vibrations and you know that the routine has started.
Insertion of the egg is very simple. Add a small amount of water-based lubricant to the tip of the LELO LUNA Smart Bead for comfort and your pelvic muscles hold the egg comfortably in place. This leaves you free to move around and continue with your daily routine.
The Training Routine
For best results, I’d advise sitting down for the first few times you use the LELO Smart Bead as this will help you get used to the routine and practice the required moves during the program.
The LELO LUNA Smart Bead is held firmly in place with my pelvic muscles and is was very comfortable to wear. During vibration, the routine requires that I clench my muscles firmly around the bead and relax when the LELO Smart Bead relaxes. For those who aren’t sure what it means to clench the pelvic muscles, imagine that you are having a wee and need to stop mid-flow. The action you use to stop your urine mid-flow, is the same action you perform to clench the muscles. Just imagine you are doing the same thing every time you feel an internal vibration.
The routine lasts for 5 minutes and as you progress through the program over the coming weeks. You’ll find that you need to clench for longer periods of time and the vibration becomes more intense, requiring more strength and power. However, despite the powerful vibration the LELO LUNA Smart Bead is whisper quiet and incredibly discreet. I could feel it vibrating but couldn’t hear it outside of my body.
For those interested in tracking their progress, the light which flashes on the side of the LELO LUNA Smart Bead flashes to indicate the level of training you require. There is one flash for level 1 and this increases as you progress through the program.
Please note: It’s important to use the LELO Smart Bead every day to maintain long lasting results.
The LELO Smart Bead uses innovative memory functions to remember my level of training so I can easily rely on the bead to work on the best routine for my body. It’s very impressive!
My Results
I’ve been using the LELO LUNA Smart Bead for just over 5 weeks now and I must say that I am very pleased with it. I wanted to wait until I saw results before I wrote up my review and I think it’s a great product.
Since I began using the Smart Bead, my pelvic floor is beginning to feeling firmer and more toned. I am experiencing better control during sex because my internal muscles are feeling stronger and this is causing an increase in sensation during love making.
Because they are increasing in strength and tone, my inner muscles have better grip control and I find that during orgasm when the muscles clench, they hold for longer which does increase my pleasure. I still have quite a way to go with the program too so I can’t wait to see how much improvement I’ll be enjoying in another 5 weeks.
I am very surprised at how weak my muscles were prior to using the LELO Smart Bead because I regularly exercise and believed that they were already very firm. The exercise I have been doing has had a great effect as I have never had any pelvic problems. However, I can feel the added benefit of the regular and more concise exercise of the pelvic floor brought by the Smart Bead.
The LELO LUNA Smart Bead also has an amazing pleasure function too. Press and hold the O button for 3 seconds and enjoy continuous vibration. I found that using this function and combining it with clitoral stimulation gave me a lovely post-workout treat. Hold for a further 3 seconds to switch the Smart Bead off.
Who says exercise has to be boring?
Summary
The LELO LUNA Smart Bead has to be one of my favourite products of all time. It’s a very practical product but the continuous vibration aspect gives it a fun and pleasurable edge. The Bead looks great and the functions are so innovative and forward thinking that the whole experience is easy and hassle free.
For a busy, working mum who rarely has time to brush her hair let alone embark on regular exercise. The LELO Smart Bead takes over an important workout and with just 5 minutes a day, delivers results that I haven’t seen before. The workout is discreet and can be carried out when you’re just brushing your teeth or having your morning shower.
The results need to be maintained with every day usage, but with 200 uses per battery, I’m happy to pay the price of a AAA and still say that I find it cost-effective.
The pleasure aspect of the LELO LUNA Smart Bead is fun and effective when combined with clitoral pleasure making this product versatile adaptable to your needs.
