System JO Gelato Salted Caramel Lube Review

By Pleasure Panel reviewer Miss Ruby Rousson

System JO have curated a range of dessert based flavoured lubes, including flavours like tiramisu, crème brûlée and mint chocolate. I always love trying new lubes, and the lovely Cara Sutra let me try out the System JO Gelato Salted Caramel Lube from the collection.

Packaging

System JO Gelato Salted Caramel Lube ReviewUpon first look, the System JO Gelato Salted Caramel Lube packing is rather exquisite. I really like the use of dark muted tones, and that they chose to use only a few choice colours for the label. It gives the impression that they’ve spent quite some time designing the bottle.

However, whilst I love the look of the bottle, I hate the actual bottle. The small cylinder shape is far too hard to squeeze. I have weak wrists, and after squeezing the bottle to get the product out I had some lingering soreness. You can unscrew the top, but it’s not an ideal thing to do when you’re in the middle of something. And, pressing down the flip top and trying to shake some out does work, but it’s a lot of work for something that should be easy.

Smell

On first waft, the System JO Gelato Salted Caramel Lube smells far too sweet – almost like walking into a sweet shop. But, after you get over the somewhat overwhelming sweetness, you can smell the caramel notes. The smell made me excited to use the product, and I’ve found that very rare in flavoured based lubes. Usually, the smell is too overpowering or it smells like chemicals.

Ingredients

This System JO Gelato Salted Caramel Lube is water-based, so it’s safe to use with all sex toy materials, and all barrier materials. It’s paraben, and propylene glycol free, however it does contain glycerin. Glycerin is a common ingredient to find in flavoured lubricants – some brands do omit glycerin though, so it’s worth double checking. This is a problem for some because it can be converted to sugar inside the vagina leading to yeast infections, UTIs, and in some cases allergic reactions. My advice is to be careful when using it, and maybe just use it for oral instead of vaginal or anal use. Better safe than sorry!

System JO Gelato Salted Caramel Lube ReviewTaste

The too sweet smell translates into taste. However, it sits well with my sweet tooth, without being too overwhelming, or too syrupy. Whilst it’s labeled as salted caramel, I didn’t quite get the salted part. But, it definitely has a caramel taste to it, very much like condensed milk, and it’s extremely potent. A little will last a long way in term of flavour, and I really like how the flavour doesn’t linger in your mouth once you’re done.

Texture

What I really like about the System JO Gelato Salted Caramel Lube is that it’s clear, and it’s not tacky. As it’s water based it wipes away very easy, and it doesn’t stain clothing or bedding. I got some on my sheets as I’m rather accident prone, but it washed away after a spin cycle.

Conclusion

Though the bottle is rather off putting, I can’t deny that the System JO Gelato Salted Caramel Lube is one of the best flavoured lubes I’ve had the pleasure of trying, and smelling. Whilst it is great as an oral lubricant, I won’t be using it internally because of the glycerin. However, I will definitely be ordering more of the flavour in the System JO Gelato range, and I really look forward to trying them.

7/10
