UberKinky Violet Wand Review

Did you know that a violet wand was one of the first electronic devices invented? Violet wands were used in homes to treat illnesses & sensitive skin issues, yet now they are viewed more as a sexual stimulation device. Violet ray manufacturers have added modern features, such as variable-speed control and various attachments. Most shockingly, I didn’t own a violet wand and I hadn’t ever reviewed one on my blog. Until now, that is. I was so happy to receive the UberKinky Violet Wand free of charge, in exchange for my fair and honest review here at the Cara Sutra sex blog, and excited to get started & see what all the fuss was about.

Find Out More About Violet Rays

To help you understand what violet wands are, and their history, I recently wrote a feature post all about these intriguing devices. You can enjoy this informative look at violet rays, which is a great introduction to this review, here: History of Violet Wands & Their Kinky Uses.

Packaging & Unboxing

My UberKinky Violet Wand came in UberKinky’s usual discreet outer packaging for the post, while the product was securely packaged inside.

The violet wand from UberKinky comes in a magnetic-close box which has a funkily designed slip-sleeve, detailing what the product is and with the contents and instructions for use on the reverse. You may wish to keep this slip-sleeve safe, or at least take a photo of it, so you can refer to these instructions whenever you need.

What You Get In The Box

Inside the magnetic-close box you find the violet wand itself, which is a plastic-housing handle with integral wire with a plug at one end. The plug is a shaver type (2-prong plug), so I needed to locate and use a shaver to mains adaptor in order to use the device. (Buy yours: Amazon.com / Amazon.co.uk)

Along with the violet wand handle/integral wire, you get 4 hollow glass attachments. One of these must be inserted into the violet wand handle in order to use the device.

The violet wand and attachments are kept safe and snug by the foam inserts in the box.

Safety Guide

  • The UberKinky Violet Wand should not be used if you’re pregnant, have a pacemaker or a history of heart disease or nerve damage.
  • One of the hollow glass tube attachments must be inserted before switching the device on.
  • Ensure the control dial is in the ‘off’ position both before and after every use.
  • Don’t take the violet wand apart or attempt to repair it yourself.
  • Don’t use the violet wand near water/other liquids or when your hands are wet.
  • Make sure the cable is fully untangled before every use, and don’t allow anything to rest on top of the cable.
  • Unplug the violet wand after every use – never leave it plugged in when you’re not using it.
  • Don’t put anything else into the violet wand’s ‘nose’ other than the included attachments.
  • Do not use a violet wand in just one area for an extended period of time.
  • Don’t use the violet wand near the eyes or inside the ears.
  • If you’re unsure about whether you should use the violet wand, or any issues/health conditions which you feel may interfere with your use of a violet wand, you should seek medical advice from a doctor.

How To Operate

The UberKinky Violet Wand produces a high-frequency, low-intensity current which can be enjoyed as part of electro-stimulation play during foreplay or BDSM sessions.

To get started, make sure the dial on the end is switched completely off. There’s a click when you turn the dial to switch it on, so you should be able to tell if it’s on or off quite easily.

Next, select which hollow violet wand attachment you’d like to use. This needs to be inserted into the ‘nose’ of the violet wand device before you switch on and begin.

When the attachment is securely in place, you can plug the violet wand into the mains. The UberKinky Violet Wand has a two-pin plug, so I needed to use an adaptor with my UK 3-pin style plug sockets.

Switch the control dial up past the ‘click’ point so it’s on. Always start on the lowest intensity, then work your way up during play to keep things safe and enjoyable for everyone involved. It’s better to start low and slowly build up, rather than starting too high and tainting the experience with unintended and non-consented to discomfort & pain.

When the violet wand is on, after following the instructions above, you should see a faint light emanating from the tip of the wand. This is quite difficult to see in daylight or a bright setting. Before using any electro-play toy on a partner, I always test it on my own skin first. This means I know how the sensation feels, and that it’s safe to use on someone else, and I can fully enjoy teasing and/or tormenting them during our sex or kink session without worry.

You should only use the provided attachments with the UberKinky Violet Wand – don’t experiment with other items as they may not be safe, risking severe injury.

The Attachments

Speaking of violet wand attachments, 4 different styles accompany the UberKinky Violet Wand. These cleverly designed add-ons provide different stimulation types depending on which one you opt to play with.

The hollow glass attachments for the violet wand should be sterilised before play. The instructions on the box recommend using a 75% alcohol solution. You can find sterilising alcohol on Amazon.com / Amazon.co.uk, as well as other liquid sterilisation options such as Milton.

A little on the included attachments – please note that these are simply my own names for them, feel free to describe them however you wish:

Angled-Disc Attachment

The ‘iconic’ attachment for a violet wand. This is the attachment style I think of when I think ‘violet wands’; it’s seen in many photographs of the world-renowned product and it’s the attachment used in the imagery on the front and reverse of the box.

Because of the larger disc shaped head, it’s easy to use this attachment over a larger area of skin and deliver a satisfying crackle.

Bud Attachment

So named because it reminded me of a flower bud. This attachment is brilliant for smaller areas where you’d like to deliver more precise stimulation.

Precision-Angled Attachment

This attachment has a curve before the head, finishing with a small, spherical tip. For pin-point accuracy, this is the attachment you should reach for. Because of the small size of the tip, the snap and crackle from the violet wand when using this attachment can be quite intense…

Comb Attachment

The comb-style attachment is multi-pronged to deliver a tantalising symphony of sensations over a wider area. Use a slowly sweeping motion to give your partner an arousing wave of electro-stimulation.

Video

Here’s my video showing the unboxing of the UberKinky Violet Wand, plus a few short clips of it during use:

How It Feels

Although I’ll do my best to describe how the UberKinky Violet Wand really feels, it’s important to remember that this review is just one person’s experience and ‘your mileage may vary’. Our bodies are unique, so what feels simply teasing to me or my partner might be intensely exhilarating and on the cusp of overwhelming for you. Conversely, what I might feel is incredibly intense for me might just be a wisp of a tingle for you! I can certainly offer some general insights on the sensations you might expect, so let’s get started.

The stimulation is applied by hovering the attachment over your/your partner’s skin. You should be starting on the lowest setting, if you follow my instructions for safe usage earlier in this review. There should be a faint light in the hollow tube, and when hovering close enough to the skin there will be a mild tingle, perhaps some visible sparks between the end of the attachment and the skin.

On the lowest setting, I didn’t really feel anything much. It took me until the dial was switched about 50% of the way round to full, before I could feel a definite tingle – plus the audible crackle and visible sparks which are synonymous with a violet wand.

The lower settings feel like a mild tingle, which are definitely arousing and teasing, while the higher settings are more like crackly zaps and could be used for consensual pain play rather than sensual foreplay antics.

One of the main attractions of a violet wand, other than the obvious multi-sensory experience, is the ability to experiment in various ways and discover a multitude of sensational possibilities. This is certainly a versatile device that you won’t get bored of after just a couple of sessions. You can mix it up thanks to the 4 different attachments, plus the power setting through the control dial, and use it on different parts of the body in different types of pleasure sessions – sexual/erotic or power exchange/kink.

For me personally, the UberKinky Violet Wand is more the former than the latter. It was a surprisingly mild experience all round, for my partner and I. Although mentions of ‘electro’ and the imagery on the packaging could feel intimidating to someone new to electro-stimulation and/or BDSM, this is a very mild stimulation toy and when you follow the instructions it’s extremely safe to use.

If I was looking for a severe impact toy which delivered consensual pain to a submissive partner or slave, I would choose a different product. Other violet wands may vary, and offer a more intense, painful zap, but the UberKinky Violet Wand felt extremely mild and we use it for sensual, erotic play rather than kinky pain/pleasure sessions.

Summary

The UberKinky Violet Wand is a fine device for applying a tantalising tingle to your partner, or yourself, as part of your foray into different erotic stimulation types. It’s also a brilliant device for beginners to electro-stimulation sex toys.

That said, I had a few disappointments:

  • The control dial needs to be at 50% before I can really feel anything from any of the attachments (although I always start the dial on the lowest setting, for safety, then raise during use). This tells me that the device is extremely mild and not what I expected from the ‘world-famous’ violet wand at all.
  • The light which emanates from within the attachment during use is a faint orange rather than purple or violet. Even after using the wand for the longest safe amount of time, the light was still orange rather than purple.
  • I couldn’t achieve any spectacular sparks or arcs between the end of the violet wand attachment and skin. This was disappointing because I read about and saw imagery of impressive displays using a violet wand during my prior research, and I wasn’t able to replicate this with the UberKinky Violet Wand. In fact, I needed to have the end of the attachment incredibly close to the skin before even tiny sparks would appear to connect it and the skin. I found this quite frustrating rather than arousing.
  • The plug style is a 2-prong plug rather than the 3-prong plug we use here in the UK. As a UK-based company I expected this mains-powered sex toy to arrive with a plug I could just use with our mains sockets, rather than having to plug it into an adaptor first. I’m unsure if and how using an adaptor affects the power outage of the violet wand.
  • It’s a bit of a faff packing away the violet wand and all the attachments between uses. Perhaps a review of the packaging would help. The handle and the attachments are held within a foam wedge with cut-outs, which you then need to fit each component back into before storage. If you don’t use the foam insert each time, you risk damage or breakage of the hollow glass tube attachments, which due to the material and nature are fragile.
  • I wouldn’t use the UberKinky Violet Wand to deliver amusingly painful shocks to my suitably enthusiastic slave, because it only delivers a teasing sensation rather than a corporal punishment style zap or extended electro-stim pain wave. This is a toy my partner and I would use during an erotic pleasure session rather than a BDSM ‘punishment’ session.

In my opinion, the main positive features of the UberKinky Violet Wand are:

  • This is a great toy for beginners to Electrosex and electro-stimulation toys.
  • When you follow all the safety guidelines, this is a very safe device to use.
  • It isn’t as expensive as some other violet wands available on the market, or heavier duty BDSM devices.
  • The wand comes prettily packaged, ready to give as a romantic gift as part of adventurous couple’s play.
  • It’s easy to understand how to use the violet wand, to operate it, and to quickly get started experiencing the sensations.
  • The sensations from the UberKinky Violet Wand are very teasing, tingly and arousing when used in an erotic play session. Combined with light bondage it’s extremely fun indeed.
  • During use, the violet wand is fairly quiet; any crackles and zaps wouldn’t be heard in the next room when you have your door closed.
  • Delivery from UberKinky is fast and very discreet.
