Packaging & Bonus Gifts

SelfDelve sent their SelfDelve Corn on the Cob Dildo quickly and in safe, discreet outer wrap. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the parcel; the dildo came complete with its own lidded tin. The large Corn on the Cob Dildo was wrapped in black tissue paper inside -and there was a sachet of Pjur lube to help me get started.

Another bonus and lovely surprise was the free SelfDelve mug I received with the dildo and tin – and when I made my first cuppa I had another surprise: the SelfDelve range is revealed when the mug contains a hot brew.

Material & Feel

When I’d first seen the SelfDelve range of fruit and veg sex toys on their website my immediate concern was which material they’d used to manufacture them. I couldn’t help but form some kind of mental connection to the the toy fruit and veg that comes with toddler toy shop sets. Those are usually made from hard plastic – and can have very prominent seams which are uncomfortable enough in the hand, never mind elsewhere… As it turned out, there was no reason to worry. The SelfDelve Corn on the Cob Dildo (and the other veg dildos which I’ll review here at the Cara Sutra blog soon) is made with supremely flexible silicone. I can’t feel any seams, and definitely nothing uncomfortable or painful.

The surface of this large silicone sweetcorn dildo is detailed in terms of the corn pieces which form a very textured surface to enjoy – and it’s also shiny, as if glazed in hot butter. Drool.

Dimensions & Weight

There’s a fair bit of weight to the SelfDelve Corn on the Cob Dildo. It weighs 336g on my kitchen scales (middle weight between my monstrous Aubergine Dildo at 390g and the sweet ‘n tender Carrot Dildo at a mere 132g). I don’t keep the Corn on the Cob Dildo in the kitchen by the way, as tempting as it is.

This is the large Corn on the Cob Dildo (there’s also a smaller one available) and it really is quite large. Perhaps not one for the size-cautious or petite. The large silicone sweetcorn dildo measures 8.5 inches in overall length, with a maximum insertable length of 7 inches (to keep hold of it comfortably, although if you somehow have room you could insert it fully vaginally) and a maximum circumference of 6.2 inches. The minimum circumference (around the tip) is just 4.1 inches, which makes for comfortable insertion. Using water based lube definitely helps with that.

During Use

The SelfDelve Corn on the Cob Dildo was every bit as tasty and delicious as it looks. I’m a fan of textured sex toys in any case, so the nobbles and bobbles of the corn decoration appealed to me from the off. When I used water based lube, this large silicone sweetcorn dildo was an absolute joy to slide inside myself vaginally, giving thrilling stimulation as I enveloped as many inches as possible.

Although it felt amazing to use, it didn’t give me an orgasm on its own. I usually need clitoral stimulation in order to climax. This veggie dildo is definitely a favourite to add vaginal stimulation when I’m masturbating with a clit vibe though. When inviting my partner to join in the fun it feels fucking amazing using a vibrator on my clit while he’s sliding the well lubed Corn on the Cob dildo in and out of me. Haven’t quite managed to find an easy and lightweight way to echo that particular sensation on my own yet; the hands-free Doxy Harness is the closest I get and then I need to somehow manoeuvre my hands under the harness & Doxy to get to the dildo base. Maybe I’ll find a small and cordless hands-free clit vibe in the near future.

The silicone of the SelfDelve Corn on the Cob Dildo is very draggy, so I’d advise using water based lube every time. I need to be incredibly stimulated and sexually aroused to use this sex toy without any lube, and even then it’s an effort to insert it just with the aid of my natural lubrication.

For an extended session of enjoyment I needed to reapply some water based lube because with the friction and heat it eventually evaporated. To continue with the same frenetic energy at that point would have led to some pretty uncomfy chafing, so make sure you’ve got an easy dispense bottle of water lube by the side before you start thrashing the corn.

As this large silicone sweetcorn dildo doesn’t have a flared base, it’s not advisable to use it anally. Unlike real corn, you run the very real risk of not seeing it again. Enough said.

Colour Change With Heat (Thermochromic)

As if the design and feel of the SelfDelve Corn on the Cob Dildo wasn’t enough, there’s another bit of sexy veg joy to reveal. It changes colour with heat. That’s why the SelfDelve mug is colour changing with heat and why it was such an appropriate bonus gift. Granted, the colour change of the large silicone sweetcorn dildo isn’t as dramatic as on some of the other vegetable dildo sex toys (they’ll be reviewed here soon) but it definitely became a little lighter in colour after running it under the hot tap.

I found that I couldn’t really detect that much of a colour change when relying on my internal body heat during/after masturbation. My first reaction was slightly disappointed that the colour change isn’t THAT dramatic – it doesn’t change from orangey yellow to red or green, for example – but then I wondered just how such a dramatic colour change might be created without affecting the toxicity of the material. I decided I was cool with a more subtle colour change. It’s a bonus feature after all.

Clean Up

After use, the SelfDelve Corn on the Cob Dildo is very easy to clean. You’d think with all the corn parts that it would get dirt ingrained in it and be difficult to clean thoroughly, but it was actually really simple using either a washcloth and/or a nail brush in hot soapy water. The corn segments don’t run deep enough in the grooves to trap any dirt; the glaze effect keeps the surface smooth enough to be washed thoroughly and easily without knackering you out even more than the orgasms did.

Another thing that surprised me was how little hair, dust and fluff this large silicone sweetcorn dildo picks up compared to some of my other silicone sex toys. Sure, it gets hair wound round after being on the carpet and bits of dirt will stick to it if it’s lubed or sticky to star with. Once clean and dry, it tends to stay that way unlike some other silicone dildos which just have to be within a metre radius of a fleck of dust to pick it up. I’m half convinced they’re actively trying to get fluffy for a bit more attention. To be absolutely fair to Corny’s toy box companions, perhaps the colour and style of this one means the dust and fluff are harder to spot.
