The MEO Extreme Anal Lube arrived in plain packaging with concise instructions from Cara on how to submit the review. The lube itself came with no instructions, but let’s face it, if you need instructions for lube then you probably shouldn’t be using it! (Or be crossing the road on your own.)
The packaging for this product was very simply shrink wrapped cellophane which had a perforated seam to make removal simple. The canister has a snap off top over a pump type dispenser which was easy to use and took only a few pumps to start the lube flowing.
The lube itself is described as “mildly desensitising, long lasting, incredibly slick, odourless and colourless.” on the blurb at the back. It would appear to be water based, but that is not specifically stated, and one of its main ingredients is “clove flower oil” which is, presumably, the numbing agent!
On squirting a little of the MEO Extreme Anal Lube onto my fingers it appeared to be slightly sticky and thick, although it did start to thin out a bit once it warmed up. The lube didn’t seem to be absorbed into the skin and so should live up to its claims of being long lasting, but as it warmed up it also started to give off quite a strong smell of cloves. Not unpleasant and sort of like a Christmas candle, but so much for being odourless!
In my view, if you are going to use a lube for sex play then it also needs to be palatable or, at the very least, be inoffensive to the taste buds. With that in mind I gave my fingers a little lick. I immediately wished that I hadn’t! The lube has a sharp, plastic taste with a hint of clove. It also has a long lasting aftertaste and leaves the tongue feeling “furry” until it goes numb. Even just that little lick made my tongue, roof of my mouth and my throat feel as if I had used one of those numbing sore throat sprays. I hate to think what it would be like if a full oral session were based around it? (If you could get past the taste that is.)
I tried washing my hands and found that the MEO Extreme Anal Lube washed off completely in just cold water without leaving any residue.
Ok, on to the reason for having the stuff in the first place. Penetration!
A couple of pumps onto the fingers and then a gentle massage onto and into my bum. After a few seconds there was a pleasant warming sensation on the outside which stopped at that, however on the inside there was an escalation that kept on going almost to the point of worry! Thankfully it stopped just before that and after another few seconds the numbing effect kicked in and the feeing subsided. Now for the toys. I was going to use 3 of increasing size for a good test. (That and being a size queen!)
On the cold toys the MEO Extreme Anal Lube was quite thick and I needed, what seemed like, a lot to cover them to my satisfaction. On first insertion the lube was a little “grabby” and not as slippy as I would have liked, but it go better as it warmed up. It became obvious at this point that the numbing effect is only skin deep and didn’t affect the inner sphincter muscles. So if you were a beginner using this in hope of alleviating that initial painful stretch, then I’m afraid you will be disappointed. However if, like me, that stretch is what you are after then fear not! It is still there. Once warmed up the lube was fine and did as good a job as my usual brand and I didn’t have any problems with having to reapply.
One of the benefits of the numbing effect was evident after my session, in that there was almost no “ring sting” which I am prone to after a good stretch. However the effect on my mouth was still quite noticeable an hour later when I could hardly taste my lunch due to a still numb tongue.
In conclusion, I would say that this is an effective enough lube once warmed up and it will be fine for beginners to help until they get used to things. It is quite expensive for that single gimmick and is useless for any oral play. I understand that it is sold as an “anal” lube and I think it should stay that way as application to the vagina would only be of use for orgasm denial.
Due to the price, taste and limited use of the “numbness” I am giving the MEO Extreme Anal Lube a 6 out of 10 rating.
