Although the latest seasonal offering from Lovehoney doesn’t contain any alcohol, I was still eager to wrap my lips around this extra special flavoured lube. Following the current gin revival trend, the Lovehoney Special Edition Gin and Tonic Flavoured Lubricant seemed right up my festive street. I’m looking forward to partaking in Ginvent again this year -and while I’m not imbibing those boozy samples, I can add a splash of gin flavour to intimate oral fun with my partner. Bottoms up!

It’s a clear bottle with a black depress-top cap, with a label themed in relevant colours for the flavour. The label gives you some information about the lube as well as the ingredients.
This 100ml bottle is comfortable to hold, lightweight and easy to dispense. You can clearly see how much is left thanks to the transparent plastic material and everything’s very functional without losing aesthetic creativity.
As always, Lovehoney’s outer postal packaging was supremely discreet.

Upon first opening the Lovehoney Special Edition Gin and Tonic Flavoured Lubricant I could faintly smell the citrus tones of the lube, then having a little taste I was pleasantly surprised. I had been worried that the G&T flavour wouldn’t convert very well to a flavoured lube, perhaps being too acidic or bitter. Gin is quite a dry taste, whereas most flavoured lubes are sweet. This lube is an unusual blend of the best high notes of gin and tonic without any of the dry acidity you might associate with the alcoholic beverage.
Rather than tasting like a straight gin and tonic, where it’s simply the strong alcohol and the tang of an unflavoured tonic, the Lovehoney Special Edition Gin and Tonic Flavoured Lubricant tastes zestier. There’s definitely a strong undercurrent of citrus holding this lube together, which keeps it appealing on the nose and tongue rather than eye-watering/acrid.
It’s not something you want to pour out and down in shots, but a few dabs on your tongue, and licked off them here and there, is an intriguingly different, refreshing and pleasant experience.

Unlike plenty of other, lower quality, flavoured lubes, the Lovehoney Special Edition Gin and Tonic Flavoured Lubricant actually works as a lube as well as just performing magic tricks on your tongue. So many flavoured lubes can form sticky globules during the heat and friction of sex –so instead of providing erotic glide, there’s an uncomfortable screech of the brakes just as the going’s getting good.
The liquid isn’t overly thick or gloopy; I wouldn’t say it has a high viscosity. This is in the lube’s favour as you can both pour it easily from the depress-top bottle and the lube stays slippery and slidey the way lube should be during sex.

We’ve thoroughly enjoyed this lube and it’s by the bed for oral adventures over the next couple of months!
