Packaging & First Impressions
This Chocolate Orange lube comes in a similar bottle to the rest of the Lovehoney lubricants range. It’s a clear bottle with a black depress-top cap, with a label themed in relevant colours for the flavour. The label gives you some information about the lube as well as the ingredients.
This 100ml bottle is comfortable to hold, lightweight and easy to dispense. You can clearly see how much is left thanks to the transparent plastic material and everything’s very functional without losing aesthetic creativity.
As always, Lovehoney’s outer postal packaging was supremely discreet.
How The Lovehoney Chocolate Orange Flavoured Lubricant Tastes
As expected, the Lovehoney Chocolate Orange Flavoured Lubricant doesn’t taste exactly like a Terry’s Chocolate Orange, nor does it taste like biting into a chocolate piece with a mandarin segment chaser. However, there’s definitely a lush sweetness to the fluid which has an unmistakable chocolate orange scent and taste.
Opening the bottle, I was greeted instantly with the faint aroma of chocolate orange, then tasting a few dots was a very pleasant experience. Not overly saccharine sweet and not overly artificial, surprisingly, as some lubes can be.
I wouldn’t recommend drinking this by the bottle or even tablespoonful, but the Lovehoney Chocolate Orange Flavoured Lubricant is not only simply inoffensive to my tongue but actually quite nice.
During Use
Getting down to it – this is a sex lube, so how does it hold up during the rigours of sexual activity?
When I first started using flavoured lubes many years ago, I found that most of them got incredibly tacky and glue-like through the heat and friction of sex. At times they would add to the chafing and discomfort, not relieve it! Happily, Lovehoney seem to have solved this issue with their flavoured lubes –at least, the ones I’ve had the pleasure of trying.
The Lovehoney Chocolate Orange Flavoured Lubricant was similar in this regard; the liquid isn’t very thick and gloopy, it doesn’t have a high viscosity. It’s easy to pour from the depress-cap bottle, and doesn’t contain parabens or glycerine. The flavour element of the formulation doesn’t make the lube turn to some sort of weird sex-porridge between your thighs like old-style flavoured lubes tended to. It’s simply an effective, reliable water-based lubricant with the added bonus of a chocolate orange flavour.
Conclusion
I’m all for unusual and imaginative additions to the world of sex toys and lubes, and this flavoured lube ticks both boxes. But it shouldn’t be dismissed as a mere novelty lube, either.
Yes, it’s a fantastic idea –particularly at Christmas, as chocolate orange is something of a festive tradition- but the Lovehoney Chocolate Orange Flavoured Lubricant is also a reliable, effective lube for all your sexual fun. It can provide a tasty, warming, aromatic element during oral sex for him, her and them, but won’t let you down for a bit of slip ‘n slide during a handjob, masturbatory fun or couples’ sex.
