Unboxing

The Lovehoney Dare Discreet Necklace Vibrator arrived in Lovehoney’s discreet outer packaging for the post. It’s just a plain brown box with no mention of sex toys or vibrators.

The Dare Discreet necklace box is glossy with a modern design, and recognisably from the Lovehoney collection. There’s an image of the product along with its name on the front, while the side panels provide plenty of information about the product and suggested use.

Inside the box you find the necklace vibrator in a black velvet, Lovehoney branded, drawstring pouch, the necklace chain in a disposable pouch, the USB charging lead and an instruction manual.

To put the device together as a necklace, you simply need to thread the chain through the loop for it at the base of the slender vibrator.

Instruction Manual

The Lovehoney Dare Discreet Necklace instruction manual provides the instructions in languages other than English. You can find the English language instructions on the box, so if you think you’ll need to refer to them again in the future I’d suggest either taking a photo or storing the box in your bedside drawer/sex toy storage box.

How To Charge Up

Charging the Lovehoney Dare Discreet Necklace Vibrator is easy, but the charging lead seems to be a product-specific type rather than a generic type. I’d advise labelling the wire in some way immediately upon unpackaging the product, so that you can easily identify it when it gets tossed into your drawer or box of charging leads. How To Operate & Settings

There’s a small black button near the ‘base’ of the vibrator (near where the chain loops through) which you use to power the vibrator on, scroll through the settings, then turn the vibrator off again.

To switch the vibrator on, press and hold the button for 3 seconds and it will spring into life, and be on the first setting – lowest speed constant vibration. To turn it off, press and hold again for 3 seconds.

During use, press the button repeatedly to discover the various settings. There are three constant vibration settings, low, medium and high, and two patterns. The patterns I would describe as a low/high repeating intermittent pulse, and the other is a dot-dot-dot fast pulse.

This Lovehoney Dare Discreet Necklace Vibrator is waterproof to IPX7 level (submersible) meaning you can clean the vibrator thoroughly (make sure the charging end is fully screwed on) and use the vibe in the bath or shower (I’d advise removing the necklace chain first). The vibrator is made from stainless steel with a silicone operation button.

Travel Lock

A travel lock is an especially handy feature on vibrators which are petite and discreet, and which you may take with you outside the bedroom or on travels. Being able to ‘lock’ the vibrations from accidentally switching on gives you peace of mind while the sex toy is in your bag or stowed away in luggage.

To activate the travel lock, just double click the power/operation button. To deactivate, do the same again or plug the toy in to charge.

How It Feels

I was expecting to love the Dare Discreet necklace vibrator as it’s a small, powerful vibe similar in style, design and operation to a bullet vibrator. Up to a point, I do love it – an extremely slender and shrill point.

If you’re expecting this slim vibe to provide thuddy and bassy style vibrations, you’re expecting too much – just as I was. However, as a novel sex toy which doubles as a sexual positivity fashion statement, or discreet jewellery (amount of discretion is fairly dependant on your outfit) it’s great.

During use the vibrator was effective at providing me with a clitoral orgasm, but it took longer and I had to have a bit of patience, and work at it a little more than I would with a more thuddy style vibrating toy. The vibrations strike a good balance between being powerful enough to be effective at giving clit orgasms while not too ‘white-finger’ buzzy to comfortably hold during use.

As usual I opted for the constant vibration settings rather than patterns or pulses – they’re just not my thing.

It’s easy to change the vibration speed or setting thanks to the button on the side, however the button renders the necklace a little less discreet than I’d want in jewellery than I wear out and about rather than just teasingly around the house and in the bedroom. The button should perhaps have been at least the same colour/material as the rest of the vibrator, so it isn’t immediately obvious as a button at first glance. Of course you can try to angle the vibrator during wear so that the button side is against your body, but as you walk or otherwise move, the vibrator could turn around.

Another aesthetic issue for me personally is that I don’t wear gold or rose gold jewellery. I would have loved this necklace vibrator even more had it been available in silver, or even glossy black if I’m going for a more rock chick/goth look.

I was amused that my natural assets rendered this ‘discreet sex toy’ even more discreet than the makers intended… I could switch to a shorter chain if I wanted the vibrator to be fully visible at all times, but with the one included the vibrator nestles cosily between my ample breasts. Keeps it warm and ready for use.

This cute, slim little vibe is a great idea for those who want something novel when it comes to their clit stim toys. A refreshing take on the classic bullet vibe, the Lovehoney Dare Discreet Necklace Vibrator is wearable, elegant-looking, easy to use and effective during use.

It isn’t the most effortlessly effective clitoral vibrator out there for me personally, but it does the job. And for a sex toy you can wear, which is within reach at any moment of the day, that’s brilliant. It raises this sex toy from frivolous play object to a useful part of someone’s sexual pleasure collection.

It would be a mistake to write the Dare Discreet Necklace Vibrator off as pure novelty. There are many features I’ve come to expect from high-end sex toys, such as it being fully waterproof, rechargeable, made from body-safe materials, quiet during use and offering multiple vibrating settings. It has a travel lock and the size/style makes it the perfect romantic getaway toy to pop into your overnight bag or luggage, along with the short charging lead and storage pouch. Or simply wear it en route if you’re going on a road trip.

Hence the price. This isn’t the cheapest slim vibrator available either, and only you can decide whether you need the Lovehoney Dare Discreet Necklace Vibrator enough to shell out almost £70 for it. As a sexy and romantic birthday, anniversary, Valentine’s or Christmas gift, it fits the bill. If I was purchasing a clitoral vibrator for myself which was more effortlessly effective and didn’t care about the necklace element, I’d be tempted to opt for the Love Not War Meile or Vush Peachy Bullet Vibrator instead.
