Review of the Fifty Shades of Grey Deep Within Vibrator by Beating Around The Bush

While I may not exactly be the world’s biggest Fifty Shades of Grey fangirl, I was intrigued to try out one of their toys.

Although, I must admit, I’d already kind of made a judgement – that the vibrator would be all style and no substance.

And as anticipated, I wasn’t exactly blown away by the outer packaging when I first saw the Fifty Shades of Grey Deep Within Vibrator. The graphics and Fifty Shades logo are easily recognisable but have this magical effect of making me physically cringe every time I see them. I assumed that because it was branded, the packaging would be glossy and high-end looking. In fact, it’s kinda lacklustre and faded, and the cardboard is thin and flimsy.

The outer packaging makes it incredibly clear that contained inside is some sort of Fifty Shades merchandise. However, it isn’t obvious what exactly. That’s unless you turn the box over, where there’s a photo of it. But once side is totally plain. Could be a pair of tights for all an innocent onlooker would know. Maybe that could be considered a pro point for those who cherish their privacy or live with their parents/nosy housemates. But for me, I wanna look at a sex toy and think, ‘Wow, I want that inside me ASAP.’ This box gave made me feel no excitement whatsoever about trying this one out.

After opening the it, I was pleasantly surprised. The vibrator itself is swish-looking. Matte black, smooth and pretty sturdy. It’s made from firm silicone and also has a nice weight to it, heavy but not so much your arm aches. Just nice and solid. Also it’s USB rechargeable and 100 per cent waterproof – factors that make me give any toy a big thumbs up.

The Fifty Shades of Grey Deep Within Vibrator does also come with a ‘satin’ pouch to keep it in, but it’s not the nicest material and way too big for the toy. I kept it in there for a bit, but it just flopped around like a hot-dog in a hallway.

Before using it you have to charge the Fifty Shades of Grey Deep Within Vibrator for two hours, and that gives you 100 minutes of power. So that was a long and boring wait. I took this time to read the instruction pamphlet that came inside the box.

The shape is meant to be ‘non-intimidating’, which it definitely is. It’s not too long or girthy, so I’d agree that they’ve succeeded in producing quite an inoffensive toy.

The vibration settings are actually pretty great – there are seven – and it’s also quite strong when turned up to the max.

What I liked best about the Fifty Shades of Grey Deep Within Vibrator controls is that there is a button to move up through the settings, and a separate one to move back down. For me, this is really important and a fabulous extra as when it gets a bit too much and you want to turn it down a notch, it’s really easy. There’s nothing worse than wanting to change to a slower or pulse setting but having to go up through all the fast ones before getting to the right one. It can be a bit of a buzzkill.

Starting on the lowest setting, I tried each one while using the vibrator internally. My first feeling was that I don’t enjoy the shape of the shaft and it wasn’t easy or enjoyable to insert the first time. It goes from thick to thin but not in any kind of way that makes sense to my anatomy.

Once the Fifty Shades of Grey Deep Within Vibrator was fully inserted, the pointy end didn’t really hit any spots, either. Although the vibes felt nice inside, no matter how I positioned it, they just weren’t getting my G-spot. If it had a curved end, it may have hit more sensitive areas.

When moving the vibrator in and out of myself, I found it difficult to control. There’s nothing to grip onto at the end – just a completely pointless silver branded plaque which lets you see your own masturbating reflection. This makes it tricky to move in and out of your vagina, too. And because of the fat-thin-fat shape of the shaft, it didn’t feel like it was really filling me up at any point. If anything, when pulling it out, it created a mini vacuum. Not the best.

I didn’t want to jump to conclusions about the Fifty Shades of Grey Deep Within Vibrator, so gave it another try. And another. After all, it does claim to be ‘beautifully sculpted to massage your pleasure spots’. However, both subsequent times I found my hands slipping off the end of it (lube, I do not blame you my dear friend). It also kept twisting around inside me, so sometimes the back would be at the front.

By the third attempt, I just used it to target vibes to my clit. The pointed end that doesn’t work well for me while being inserted, does feel good against my clitoris.

For external enjoyment, the three increasing speed settings are sound. The highest one isn’t blow-your-mind strong but it’s good for an every day type toy. Four patterns of vibration come after the three speed settings, and these are varied and cool. Not just your average ‘buzz-buzz-buzz’. One of them increases in speed, then decreases slowly. That was the one I most enjoyed as I haven’t come across it in a vibrator before.

As it’s black, it’s not particularly easy to clean. After washing it’s left kind of smeary and not as matte as when it was box fresh.

I later read it has been made with beginners and couples in mind. I’m sure for beginners, using this would be a good way to dip your toe into the ocean of sex toys. It is, like they say, not intimidating. You could always try this first then work your way up.

The Fifty Shades of Grey Deep Within Vibrator also claims to be good for couples and the instruction booklet advises using it on your partner’s testicles during foreplay or sex. Way to assume everyone buying a vibrator is straight, Fifty Shades! I did try this, but the poor chap said it was tickly and the shape wasn’t right for his balls. So we very quickly sacked that off.

In all, I think the Fifty Shades of Grey Deep Within Vibrator is fine if you’re happy just to use it for external stimulation. But certainly for me and my anatomy, it didn’t hit the good spots at all.

The Fifty Shades of Grey Deep Within Vibrator is definitely more style over substance like I predicted. Especially for a toy that claims to be ‘luxury’, I think in reality it’s pretty sub-standard.
