Recently I received some Durex sex toys directly from the company, free of charge, in exchange for my fair and honest reviews here at the Cara Sutra sex blog. Today I’ll be discussing my thoughts on the Durex Play Dream Sensual Massager.

It has taken me an absolute age to review this Durex Play Dream Vibrator, I will confess that now. For two reasons: I’ve been very busy and I don’t like this vibe. I will say that outright to save you a lot of time. No beating about the bush, as it were.

Unlike the fantastic Durex lubes make and the safety assurances of their large range of condoms, the Durex sex toys have been one disappointment after another.

Upon receiving the Durex Play Dream Sensual Massager and also the Durex Discover Vibrator, I really hoped that these would buck the trend for weak vibrations that I and others had found to be the signature of the range. It wasn’t to be.

Presentation

The Durex Dream sex toy is labelled as a ‘Sensual Massager‘, but this is optimistic to say the least.

Presentation as always is excellent. Modern, sleek and colourful package, with a magnetic closure on the glossy, recyclable card. Novel.

In The Box

Open the box and you reveal the Durex themed purple vibrator, with a white handle, behind which is a small instruction leaflet and a matching purple satin storage bag. Hey, at least you get a free storage pouch, it’s not all bad news.

Measurements

The ironically titled ‘Dream’ is 5.5 inches in length, with a handle circumference of 5.2 inches, a minimum shaft circumference of 2.8 inches and a maximum (the bulbous tip) shaft circumference of 3.2 inches.

Powering Up

This Durex Play Dream Sensual Massager requires 2 x AAA batteries to function, slipped into the battery compartment by opening the white handle. You twist it and it comes apart to reveal the area. This product does come with batteries included. Hurray!

Operation

Replacing the handle, you can now get to work. There are 3 buttons on the front of the Dream: + and – and a O which lets you change the vibrating function.

You know when you just have to turn on a vibrator and you get a ‘feel’ about the toy? Yeah. So I turned it on, checking out the functions, as you do. My first thought was oh no… another weak Durex sex toy. What a shame.

Still, I had to at least try.

During Use

Durex Play Dream Sensual Massager ReviewIt wasn’t a successful session. Well, at least not for the Dream. I was fine after I grabbed my iGino One and finished properly. No matter what I tried with the Dream (for over half a bloody hour) I just couldn’t get anywhere more than mildly frustrated. Really not sexy.

In case you were wondering, the Durex Play Dream Sensual Massager has 5 functions:

  1. Constant vibration
  2. Pulse vibration
  3. Faster pulse vibration
  4. Fastest pulse vibration
  5. Oscillation

The constant vibration just isn’t fast enough, while even the fastest pulse vibration just feels like patting yourself lightly on the clitoris. That’s not how I get my rocks off.

The Dream is ‘splash proof’. I want my sex toys to be waterproof. If they’re near water, they are either getting very carefully wiped with a cloth after a spritz with sex toy cleaner, or they’re getting saturated along with me. I don’t do mere ‘splashing’.

Design

The surface of the Durex Play Dream Sensual Massager *does* feel lovely, it’s a velvety silicone which works very well with water based lubricant. It’s also phthalates free.

You could use the bulbous shape of this vibrator as a dildo which would negate the need for it to have any vibrating power at all – if it were long enough to reach and stimulate the G-spot inside. As it is, the insertable length of this product is about 2.5 inches so it’s quite a shallow insertion. This also doesn’t leave you much room for manoeuvre with the handle.

If you do fancy trying out the Dream, it costs around £35 from online sex shops and some high street stores. If you’ve never seen or heard of a vibrator before, you might even be impressed.
