Doxy Skittle Vibrator Review | Doxy Don Review

My Doxy Don review (previously known as the Doxy Skittle Vibrator): It’s difficult not to approach this review with three fingers deep in a heavy mass of bowling puns. Before you raise your arm to strike, let me put my best foot forward and knock you off your pins with the real deal on this shapely little sex toy.

The Don by Doxy

Doxy Skittle Vibrator Review by Cara Sutra

If you’re from outside the UK and wondering what the hell I am even on about (this time), you may want to read my Doxy Skittle Vibrator preview post. Skittles are what we call bowling pins here in the UK – and where this vibrator got its name.

The Doxy Skittle Vibrator comes in a glossy white cardboard box with a transparent window to the front so you can see the vibrator as well as the set-in-the-lead controller before you open the box. This is a plug-in/mains powered sex toy so there’s a plug attached to the end of the very long lead.

Made with silicone the Doxy Skittle Vibrator / Doxy Don is safe to use both on and inside your body. Unlike the flagship Doxy Wand Vibrator, the Doxy Skittle Vibrator promises powerful vibrating pleasure which can be enjoyed not only on and around the clitoris but also vaginally and anally. Although the original Doxy Wand was enjoyed by a few people with a penis and testicles the marketing was largely aimed at women/clitoral pleasure. As the Doxy Skittle has a probe which can be used internally, coupled with a handle that forms the required ‘flared base’, it can be used anally for internal and external (surrounding area) pleasure.

There are no clear and specific instructions about how you should use the Doxy Skittle Vibrator and I believe this to be deliberate. Doxy Skittle / Doxy Don is a groundbreaking sex toy in that it is totally up to the user how they enjoy it. Not in a ‘put this attachment on and it’s a girl’s, or put that attachment on and it’s a boy’s‘ kinda way, but in a ‘it really doesn’t matter who you are, how you identify; this is one powerful piece of vibrating kit for you to experiment with – enjoy!‘ kinda way.

Although sex toys are made for anatomy and not for gender, many of the sex toys available are still very definitely aimed at either men or women, in a highly gender binary fashion. The majority are also hetero & mono normative, with couples’ cock rings assuming that most/all couples will include one cis male and one cis female.

I like to think that the end retailers, the sex shops online, have these categories and marketing strategies set up due to SEO reasons – but for the manufacturers and brands there really isn’t any excuse other than the age old ‘supply and demand’. Well the world demands more these days – we demand sex toys which pleasure parts of the body, not to fit stereotypes and gender, sexuality and relationship ideals or society norms.

Thankfully, it’s the Doxy Skittle Vibrator to the rescue. As I say, there’s no set of instructions, no little booklet with the silhouette of the sex toy between the stereotypical man and woman having missionary PIV sex. The Doxy Skittle Vibrator / Doxy Don offers vibrations, through a certain shaped sex toy, which can be enjoyed as you wish.

This is a plug-in vibrator as I’ve mentioned, like all the Doxy sex toys are. This is what makes the Doxy vibrators so powerful. Although I’m no sex toy manufacturing expert, I believe it’s difficult to get the same speed and power of vibration from a motor which works wirelessly. As it’s a plug-in vibrator, it’s also not submersible or waterproof. This wouldn’t be great for a standard battery operated or rechargeable wireless vibrator but for the mains powered Doxy sex toys I think it’s forgivable.

The Doxy Skittle Vibrator measures 7 inches in height, which includes the probe of 2 inches in height and 3.75 inches max circumference, and the handle of 5 inches height and 7.5 inches max circumference. It plugs in via the very long lead, which measures 4 metres/12 feet. The controller is approximately 32 inches down the lead, and has three buttons just like the original Doxy Massager – On/Off, + and -.

Once you plug in the Doxy Skittle Vibrator it’s very easy to figure out and use (although there’s a little leaflet which includes a guide to the buttons in case you have any problems). Turn it on, press the + or – to increase or decrease the intensity. There’s also a fun ‘pulse’ setting, which is activated by turning off the Doxy Don then holding the power button for a few seconds until it starts up again but in pulsing mode.

As the tip or probe of the Doxy Don moves this way and that, not exactly side to side but in a bouncing around motion, it’s very similar to the Revel Body sex toy. Not in looks or how it works, but the effect of increased vibration on the oscillations to the part connecting with the body. The higher the speed of vibration the more minute each movement of the tip is; a slower speed makes for a more dramatic movement of the probe. For clitoral stimulation – which I favour – a lower speed than full whack was actually more effective that the highest, teeny-movement but fast speed rate, which was a surprise. It was an especially welcome surprise as it means the Doxy Skittle Vibrator is a bit quieter when I use it than when I’m using the Doxy Massager Wand.

The raised nub area at the base of the probe part and at the top of the handle has been specially designed to give increased pleasure and a closer connection with the body during internal use. This does feel delicious when I’m using the Doxy Don vaginally but I still prefer the more dramatic vibrations I can enjoy when using it clitorally/outside the body. Using the probe anally didn’t do all that much for me sadly – the probe is a bit short, the vibrations through the silicone tip are muffled because it’s in such a tight area of the body – similarly to the vagina – and I found it quite awkward to use anally due to having to hold on to the weightier-than-a-butt-plug handle.

As mentioned there’s still the issue of a bit of noise but it’s nowhere near the drill levels of the original Doxy Wand in my opinion. The motor seems to be in the bit you hold in your hand, which means you’re muffling the noise of that yourself when you hold it.

Aside from the size, material, noise and operation aspects of the Doxy Skittle Vibrator it’s a difficult one to review adequately. Your mileage will definitely vary. This is because the Doxy Skittle Vibrator is such a unique sex toy and one which openly invites users to ‘plug in and play’ – finding your own way to enjoy it regardless of gender, sexuality, relationship.

What I will say is that the range of motion in the tip is much more varied than the vibrations through the head of the Doxy Massager Wand, as it moves this way and that and can be used internally as well as externally. If you’re up for a refreshing change in the toy box which offers Doxy power coupled with ingenious design and plenty of scope for creative play, you should give the Doxy Skittle Vibrator a try.

I still prefer the original Doxy Wand vibrator over the Doxy Don but that’s because I’m such a clitoral stimulation slut.
