Doxy Massager versus Lovehoney Deluxe Magic Wand Comparison Review
by Hella Rude
Since Hitachi launched their Magic Wand Back Massager in the USA, it has become a bit of a legend. The innocuous design was supposedly created to work out niggles and cricks in your back and shoulders but women in America had other ideas. The heavy-duty vibration and smooth, agile head make for an intense vulva massage. Hitachi’s Magic Wand soon had women cumming all over the US and if you fast forward to present day, wands are very much considered part of your standard-issue sex toy kit.
Hitachi missed a trick with their international market by failing to create European models with the CE mark. That and a lack of solid patent or copyright for the brand name left the doors wide open in the European market.
In 2011 we were reaching peak wand, with sex toy companies all over the globe creating their own versions. Lovehoney even went as far to trademark the Magic Wand name in the UK and Europe to capitalise on the hungry searches for the original Hitachi model.
Lovehoney Deluxe Magic Wand Vibrator
Lovehoney’s Deluxe Magic Wand Vibrator became a much-hyped release that appeared to live up to the Hitachi’s abilities. Instead of a standard 2 speeds, it boasts a multispeed dial and because it’s CE marked it can be sold all over Europe. The model isn’t available for sale in the US.
The size is good and there are a selection of wand attachments you can buy to transform the rounded tip into anything from a G-spot probe to anal beads or a penis sleeve. This makes Lovehoney’s wand a great sex toy not just for solo play but for couple’s to share.
Lovehoney’s model is probably due a makeover as although it has some great power, there are a number of design flaws that really let it down:
- The head is made of hard plastic, it doesn’t feel great
- The head also features deep ridges which require fiddly cleaning
- The multispeed adjuster is easily moved during use because of its placement on the handle
- The power cord is woefully short
- It’s really high-pitched and loud – better containment of the vibrating motor would fix this
Although Lovehoney made smart business moves into the wand vibe market, they ended up producing a product that doesn’t look or feel so deluxe. Sure, it has power and it most certainly is an orgasm machine, but the experience is a little bit bottom-end.
It’s probably time their wand had design makeover to fix the obvious issues and maybe update its abilities but at £49.99, the price point is reasonable for the manufacturing quality.
Doxy Massager Wand Vibrator
The Doxy Massager Wand Vibrator is the latest wand vibe to receive big acclaim, and it’s available to buy worldwide. Boasting 30% more power than Hitachi’s model, the mains-powered design includes adjustable speeds and an adjustable pattern setting controlled. Learning your way around the controls is a little complex but once mastered, they’re intuitive. It sounds like a higher quality machine, with a deep rumble even at the highest settings. It feels like there’s a really weighty cam on the motor and the components are well placed so as not to omit an almighty whir.
It’s still loud – there’s so much power! It’s nowhere near as bad as Lovehoney’s model, though.
The head is glorious. It’s free from ridges and has a smooth, padded texture. The high-quality finish is also a breeze to clean and maintain. There are a variety of wand attachments that will fit onto it – just like with Lovehoney’s design. The cord is also incredibly generous, so you should get a good reach from the nearest plug point to the middle of the bed without needing an extension cord. The sensations it produces are nothing short of amazing.
The abilities of this luxury wand vibrator are certainly well reported but I didn’t expect them to be quite as impressive as they felt in practice. It’s also worth mentioning that unlike with Lovehoney’s model, Doxy is ideal for back and shoulder massage – especially using the pattern settings.
If you’re looking for a great magic wand vibrator, either of these will do the trick but the quality of your experience and longevity of the product will be dependent on your spend. The Lovehoney wand will need replacing quicker due to the terrible head design. Mine is already marked from storage with dust ingrained in the ridges. Because of the design, cleaning the head with bleach will not be easy.
The Doxy Massager might come up at almost twice the expense but for that you get a much nicer model with improved features that’s easier to maintain. If I had to buy a new vibrating wand tomorrow, my choice would be the Doxy.
The Doxy Wand massager was provided in exchange for honest reviews. The Lovehoney Magic Wand Deluxe was acquired when Hella worked with Lovehoney in 2011.
