One of the most eagerly awaited new adult products this year, the We-Vibe 4 Rechargeable Couple’s Vibrator has now officially launched and is available for purchase from many sex toys shops both online and in the high street.

I’ve been looking forward to giving my feedback on this 4th version of the We-Vibe couples vibrator, having previously enjoyed the We-Vibe 3 and the We-Vibe Thrill – the vibrator for solo female pleasure. I met the We-Vibe 4 in person (as it were) both at erofame in Germany and Erotica in London, both back in October.

I was sent a purple We-Vibe 4 directly from We-Vibe free in exchange for this honest and unbiased review.

The first thing that struck me about the We-Vibe 4 Rechargeable Couple’s Vibrator is the difference in size to its previous counterpart, as well as quite a change in shape. The We-Vibe 4 is quite a bit smaller than the We-Vibe 3, as you can see from the comparison gallery below and this picture.

Let’s take a look at the We-Vibe 4 on its own merit first.

Charging it up

Before you use the We-Vibe 4, you will need to charge it up. This is a rechargeable couples’ sex toy, so the only batteries you need worry about is the CR2032 cell battery in the remote control every once in a while. Full details in the booklet enclosed. Don’t worry, you don’t have to replace that often.

The We-Vibe 4 sits in the “dock” – the white storage box base – to charge. You can put the lid on or leave it off. I prefer to keep the lid on; if nothing else, it keeps the We-Vibe 4 in the optimum position for charging. This is a wireless dock, in that you need to plug in the USB charging lead to it, then the USB end into any USB port you desire.

While it’s charging up, you will notice a flashing LED on the front of the charging dock. This emits a steady glow once the We-Vibe 4 is fully charged. it takes about 6 hours to fully charge from scratch; a full charge gives you approximately 3 hours of constant playtime.

I get a bit confused when it comes to sitting the We-Vibe 4 in the right place in the dock, which is why I took this picture.

It’s slightly different to the We-Vibe 3, in that it doesn’t extend open fully, so needs to be inserted in the two slots close to each other on the base. The We-Vibe 3 on the other hand, extends fully and is meant to sit in its charging dock within the two furthest slots, while the remote control sits in between.

Operation & functions

Once the We-Vibe 4 is fully charged, you’re ready to rumble. Well in fact, there’s no rumbling as the vibrations are incredibly quiet. Perfect.

To turn on the We-Vibe 4 Rechargeable Couple’s Vibrator just press the raised button on top, near the raised logo. To be perfectly honest I would have chosen a different style of button, personally. I find this raised oval a little hard to press and the front of it slopes away to become flush with the rest of the vibe, meaning in the heat of the moment it’s easy to think it’s just another part of the raised logo lettering.

He says he doesn’t have a problem with it, so maybe just me.

Also, you DON’T press and hold to turn on, just press normally, quickly, and the We-Vibe 4 will start up with a constant vibration.

The functions from using the button on the We-Vibe 4 itself are:

Constant vibration
Faster constant vibration
Fastest constant vibration
Pulsating vibration
Wave / oscillating vibration
Pulse mode – first one motor then the other (each arm has its own motor)

There is a wireless remote control supplied with the We-Vibe 4, which is NOT waterproof even though the main toy is. So be careful with it. It’s also battery powered, unlike the main We-Vibe 4 vibrator which is rechargeable.

The remote control differs slightly to the We-Vibe 3 remote, in that it has 4 separate and clearly defined buttons, in a circle, rather than the admittedly vague notion of buttons on the We-Vibe 3 controller.

Once you’ve already had the We-Vibe 4 turned on by the button on the toy itself, you can start to use the remote with it too. Press any button on the remote to start it up. There are instructions in the booklet if you have difficulty pairing the two items up, but I didn’t have any problem. The remote control works within 3 metres (10 feet) of the vibrator. I tested this out somewhat, in that I stuck the We-Vibe 4 at the furthest point of my room (which is at least 10 feet across) and stood by the door and switched on. Yep, it operated it. That’ll do for me!

The standby of the remote to the WV4 is 45 minutes. After this time you’ll need to press the button on the toy again to switch it to the ‘on’ or alert setting.

Using the remote control, you can select the vibration and mode slightly differently. Instead of having three distinct constant vibration speeds, there is one via the mode buttons (the left and right on the controller) and up and down buttons to choose your desires intensity for any of the constant, pulse, wave or alternating (echo) motor vibrations.

The controller also has a thoughtful addition: a deliberate hole at the end, like you’d get on a phone, so you can attach a phone charm style loop or slim chain and wear the controller round your neck or affix to a keyring or belt so it’s never lost or out of reach.

This sees to the ‘wearing the controller round your neck’ idea I had when reviewing the LELO Ida recently! Great minds 😉

Cleaning the We-Vibe 4

After you use the We-Vibe 4 during sex (or however you want to use it) you’ll need to clean it thoroughly. As the We-Vibe 4 itself is waterproof you can wash it with soap and water and spritz with an anti bacterial sex toy cleaner to ensure it is perfectly hygienic for your next use. The controller isn’t waterproof, remember – so just wipe over with a damp cloth or suchlike.

Our thoughts & experiences

Overall, I am impressed with the We-Vibe 4 Rechargeable Couple’s Vibrator. it’s powerful, rechargeable and comes with its own storage container. The wireless remote control works well, but I found I’d like it to be slightly bigger, personally – but then of course this would affect the storage box / charging dock set up which the controller is designed to sit in when not in use. The buttons on the controller are ok – again I would prefer them to be easier to press and maybe with a + and – on the intensity ones so I don’t have to keep remembering which ones work the modes and which ones work the speeds.

I will not use the We-Vibe 4 for solo stimulation, the shape of the arm which sits inside the vagina is just not best suited for playing on your own. In fact it’s not suited well for use in conjunction with sex toys either. Without a person’s weight behind them it’s just too fiddly trying to keep the WV4 and the vaginal sex toy of your choice in there, in the right places, both at the same time, without something slipping off or out.

For couples sex, the We-Vibe 4 is a brilliant device to help both of us reach a climax which is satisfying. The wider area of the internal arm gives me greater vibration ‘coverage’ over my G-spot while the flat underside thrills his shaft as he penetrates me.

Trying to use the button on the We-Vibe 4 itself during sex is just too much of a faff, so we had to make sure the remote controller was synced and we got into our heads how it worked before we used the We-Vibe 4 during sex. I will definitely be attaching a loop to the controller as due to its size, it can easily get lost in the bedsheets if you happen to discard it for a moment.

I did need lube (waterbased, it’s a silicone sex toy!) to insert it into the vagina; as you’re not to overextend the arms on the We-Vibe 4 it’s best to have a smooth entry so you don’t catch any sensitive skin on the way in.

As for the ridges on the internal areas of the We-Vibe 4, these are purely decorative in my opinion, as you can’t feel them during sex.

We both enjoyed using the We-Vibe 4 and I am finding it difficult to say which is better, the We-Vibe 3 or the WV4, as they are subtly different, which was a surprise. You’d think they were pretty much the same product, but they’re not. The We-Vibe 4 is shaped to stay in position better during couples sex, though.

We both enjoyed using this sex toy and he was once again impressed by the vibration range and intensity as well as the pleasure he could derive from this vibrator. if you’re a quick cummer, be warned! This is going to make you explode even faster.

Comparisons to the We-Vibe 3

As mentioned above, the We-Vibe 3 and We-Vibe 4 are different in shape and size, while still conforming to the proven style of internal, G spot stimulation at the same time as giving external, clitoral stimulation – as well as powerful vibration throughout for the man’s shaft, of course.

The We-Vibe 3 charges up by mains plug, while the We-Vibe 4 charges up with a USB charging lead. You could use a USB to mains adaptor plug if you like. This gives you greater versatility in your charging.

The We-Vibe 3 is a glossy, shiny silicone, while the We-Vibe 4 is a matte silicone material, for a very different look.

The main difference is that the We-Vibe 4 is meant to be kept quite closed, it actually cautions against over extending the arms in the booklet. The obvious difference between the WV 3 and 4 is the shape. The base of the We-Vibe 4 is flat, allowing the man’s penis to slide up against it without a concave area against him. Meanwhile on the reverse of this arm there is a convex part, which is designed to sit against the woman’s g-spot. There are also small waved lines on this area, similar but not exactly like the lines on the corresponding area of the We-Vibe 3.

We-Vibe Measurements & Comparison

All these measurements are my own, not official…

We-Vibe 3 measures 3 inches in length along the bottom. The max width of the bottom arm is 1 inch and the max width of the top arm is 1.1 inches. Max circumference of the insertable shaft is 2.8 inches. The insertable length is 2.5 inches.

We-Vibe 4 measures 2.75 inches in length, along the bottom. The max width of the bottom arm is 1.1 inches and the max width of the top arm is 1 inch. Max circumference of the insertable shaft is 2.9 inches. The insertable length is 2.3 inches.

The We-Vibe Thrill, made for women’s solo use, measures 3.5 inches in length along the bottom. Max circumference of the insertable shaft is 3.9 inches. The insertable length is 3.3 inches.

Summary

This is a high quality, designer sex toy that once again proves why the We-Vibe family of couples vibrators are so popular. I would only have a few suggestions for the next model; a more pronounced operation button, perhaps include a pendant loop with the controller, mark the remote control buttons so we don’t get confused as to which does what. A waterproof remote controller would also be a good next step.

Sure, it’s a costly vibe – £125 for a sex toy isn’t a decision to be taken lightly. It’s unfair to compare the We-Vibe 4 to any other brand of couples vibrator (ahem), as everyone’s preference will be for a certain internal shape as well as for different ways to control your choice of vibe.

The storage box -slash- charging dock makes the We-Vibe 4 a dream to both store and travel with, while the vibrations in use are powerful and quiet. In my opinion this is a worthy investment of your money if you’re after the quality engineering we’ve come to expect from We-Vibe, in a newer, sleeker form.
