Nowadays it’s extremely rare that I see a sex toy I’m genuinely excited about, but back when I first saw online mentions of the Lovehoney UPRIZE range I knew I needed one of these self-erecting dildos in my life. Testament to this was my immediate and enthusiastic yes please response when Lovehoney offered me their Lovehoney UPRIZE Self-Erecting Bionic Dildo Vibrator (8 inches, in Black) to review. Not only that, Lovehoney also kindly sent me the Lovehoney UPRIZE Strap-On Harness too.
Update for 2026: Sadly, the Lovehoney UPRIZE range has been discontinued and is no longer available to buy new. Given how often I’m still asked about it, I’ve kept my original review intact below (it remains one of the most distinctive sex toys I’ve ever tested), and I’ve added a section covering the closest alternatives still on sale in 2026.
Quick Links
Best Alternatives to the Lovehoney UPRIZE in 2026
The UPRIZE was genuinely one-of-a-kind. To my knowledge, no other manufacturer has released a true successor to the “flaccid to erect at the touch of a button” mechanism since Lovehoney discontinued the range. So rather than pretend there’s a direct replacement, I’ve grouped the strongest alternatives by what people actually loved about the UPRIZE, drawing on toys I’ve personally reviewed and brands I currently work with and trust.
For the novelty mechanism: Velvet Thruster
If what drew you to the UPRIZE was the idea of a premium dildo with a built-in mechanical wow factor, the Velvet Thruster range is the closest spiritual successor. Instead of erecting, these thrust, with a powerful motor housed in the base driving the shaft back and forth at customisable speeds. They sit in a similar premium price bracket to the UPRIZE and feel like a serious piece of engineering. I’ve reviewed the Velvet Thruster Frankie with the Lewis silicone top in detail, and you can see my full overview of the Prime Silicone Tops collection too. Lovehoney also stocks a growing range of thrusting dildos in the UK and US if you want to browse more options.
For the strap-on combo: harness kits & pegging-ready dildos
If you originally wanted the UPRIZE because of the strap-on harness pairing, you can put together an equivalent setup very easily today. The Lovehoney BASICS Strap-On Harness Kit is my budget-friendly recommendation and comes complete with a dildo, so it’s a one-purchase UPRIZE-and-harness replacement. For something more premium, the Liberator Valkyrie Thong Harness is gorgeous, and the Sportsheets Plus Size Chantilly Corset Back Harness is excellent for inclusive sizing. You can also browse the full Lovehoney UK strap-on range or US range.
For more options and guidance on putting the right combo together, see my Strap-On Harnesses Guide and Strap-On Dildos Guide, plus my piece on how women get pleasure from pegging and strap-on sex.
For the strapless strap-on experience
One option I’d strongly recommend if you love the idea of strap-on sex but want the wearer to feel more involved is going strapless. A Tantus Strapless is my recommended choice here. There are a few colour and size options to choose from, and they’re similar to the world-famous Feeldoe toys. The bulb sits inside the wearer, held in place with their PC muscles (the silky silicone surface makes it easy and comfortable), while the shaft angles up perfectly for skin-on-skin penetration of a partner. Worth getting used to gripping it internally and the feel/weight on your own before adventuring with your partner. You don’t have to always share it with a partner though; the bulb doubles as a sturdy handle for solo play.
If you want something with a strong internal bullet for added stimulation, the BMS PowerBullet Infinity Strapless Strap-On is excellent, and Fun Factory’s Share range is a long-standing classic (we’ve reviewed both the Share and the Share XL).
For a big, vibrating, realistic dildo
If what really drew you to the UPRIZE was the sheer presence of an 8-inch realistic vibrating dildo, you have plenty of fantastic options. I recommend the Lovehoney Lifelike Lover Realistic Dildo for a classic silicone-realistic feel, or if you want the added thrill of thrusting motion (closer to the UPRIZE’s mechanical novelty), the EdenFantasys Rogue Thrusting Realistic Dildo Vibrator is well worth a look. Browse the current Lovehoney UK realistic dildo range or US range for the latest options.
For packing: Mr Limpy realistic packers
I used to enjoy wearing the UPRIZE as a packer in the harness, switching from flaccid to erect at will. While no current packer offers that same on-demand erection, the Mr Limpy range from Fleshlight gives an incredibly realistic flaccid appearance under clothes. I’ve reviewed the Small, Medium and Large Mr Limpys so you can choose based on the bulge you want. UK readers can grab them via Bondara, or browse the wider Lovehoney UK packers range or US packers range for other options.
About the Lovehoney UPRIZE Self-Erecting Bionic Dildo Vibrator
The Lovehoney UPRIZE Self-Erecting Bionic Dildo Vibrator was billed as the world’s first bionic dildo. It’s a self-erecting dildo, which is why it first caught my interest. It’s hard to not be enthralled by a dildo which can go from flaccid to erect simply at the touch of a button. This was thanks to Lovehoney’s “Auto-Erect” technology; mechanics they engineered within the toy to enable the shaft to erect then return to a ‘down’ state as the user desired.
Packaging
My Lovehoney UPRIZE Self-Erecting Bionic Dildo Vibrator arrived discreetly packaged for the post as usual, from Lovehoney, and the toy itself came in an impressive, sizeable branded box as you can see in the photos. The outer sleeve was easily removed to reveal the black lidded box, inside which you found the main product under some protective moulded plastic and nestled into dark grey foam.
Inside the box I received the Lovehoney UPRIZE Self-Erecting Bionic Dildo Vibrator, remote control, charging lead and multi-language instruction manual.
Size & First Impressions
When fully erect (and I liked that it went beyond 180 degrees slightly, looking more like a real penis that way), the insertable length was indeed 8 inches. The shaft’s maximum circumference was 5.5 inches around the frenulum, with the majority of the shaft boasting a girth of 5 inches.
Video: operating the Lovehoney UPRIZE bionic dildo on its suction cup base, demonstrating the Auto-Erect technology going from flaccid to fully erect via the wireless remote.
When I first played with the Lovehoney UPRIZE Self-Erecting Bionic Dildo Vibrator, it was simply to create an erection and de-erect it again several times. Fun for hours. I was surprised at how noisy the erection feature was, but it didn’t bother me too much. It made me laugh to be honest; it was like a muted screech, and I liked to imagine it was coming from behind a tightly-fastened ball gag. Perhaps that’s just a me thing.
The mechanics were cleverly housed inside the balls area at the base of the impressive shaft, and underneath this you’d find the slightly concave, circular silicone pad which doubled as a suction cup and made the Lovehoney UPRIZE Self-Erecting Bionic Dildo Vibrator O-ring strap-on harness compatible.
Operation
On the side of the ball sack/mechanical housing area you’d find two buttons. One of the buttons was to erect or de-erect (Deflate? Enlimpen? Flaccify?) the shaft, the other was to operate the whopping 10 modes of vibration. The vibrations button was also the on and off switch, plus it was used to sync the Lovehoney UPRIZE Self-Erecting Bionic Dildo Vibrator with the remote control.
Pressing the power button once and both buttons would light up and flash, letting you know that you could use the remote control if you wished. Pressing again meant you were using the power button to control the UPRIZE vibrations by that button on the unit itself. Press and hold at any time to switch the dildo off.
Remote Control
The remote control was a comfortable oval shape and well sized to fit in your hand. There were three buttons on the remote; + and – to increase or decrease the vibration strength, plus a central O button to erect or de-erect the Lovehoney UPRIZE Self-Erecting Bionic Dildo Vibrator.
The remote was battery-powered, taking one CR2032 cell battery, which was happily included. You needed to slide the back off the remote before getting started, to remove the protective tab, then replace the cover.
Charging Up
As the Lovehoney UPRIZE Self-Erecting Bionic Dildo Vibrator was clearly a luxury, top of the range sex toy, it was rechargeable.
The included wire was jackpin style to USB, with the jackpin fitting into the hole made for it on the base of the ‘balls’ part of the dildo and the other end suitable for any USB port or USB to mains adaptor (not included, but I found my multi USB to mains extremely useful). While charging, the buttons on the Lovehoney UPRIZE Self-Erecting Bionic Dildo Vibrator would light up, creating a hilarious ‘face’ effect when the dildo wasn’t erect.
Material
Covered with extremely velvety soft silicone, the Self-Erecting Bionic Dildo Vibrator (and remote control) was one of the most tactile sex toys I’ve owned. The combination of having the Power Of Erections at the touch of a button, plus vibrations, in an impressively sizeable and girthy dildo made with touchably smooth silicone finished with a suction cup/harness compatible base, was an absolute delight.
Lovehoney UPRIZE Strap-On Harness
An optional accessory for the Lovehoney UPRIZE Self-Erecting Bionic Dildo Vibrator, the Lovehoney UPRIZE Strap-On Harness (Universal Size) came in a smaller, UPRIZE branded box which was also well presented and told you what you needed to know. There was plenty of information on the back about how to fit your UPRIZE Dildo into the O ring of the Lovehoney UPRIZE Strap-On Harness, as well as how to fit the harness around your legs and waist for a secure, comfortable fit.
Packaging
The Lovehoney UPRIZE Strap-On Harness came contained in a transparent plastic bag within the box, and I found it easy to figure out the leg loops from the waist loop before stepping into it all. Once pulled up my legs to my hips area, the leg straps sat on the underside of each buttock, while the waist strap kept the front pad (which was cutely branded with the UPRIZE logo) flush against my vulva.
The straps were easily adjustable using the slide buckles on each part (to the sides), then you could simply tuck in the excess strapping until you were comfortable and ready for action.
Fitting the UPRIZE Dildo Vibrator
Instead of having to unfasten the popper straps around the O ring in order to insert the Lovehoney UPRIZE Self-Erecting Bionic Dildo Vibrator, then refasten, you simply folded the circular base of the dildo into the O ring while it was still fastened on to the strap on pad.
At that point you could adjust the strap on harness straps so the pad really was totally flush against you, so that the dildo was as secure as possible in its O ring holder.
My Experiences
I’ve known for years that I’m a power queen, but I didn’t think I was a size queen. That said, something still drew me to the larger dildo from the Lovehoney UPRIZE range. Turns out, 8 inches of mechanised, erectable, silicone covered dildo, with a 5-inch girth to boot, is a LOT of dildo to envelop.
I loved it. I couldn’t take every single inch, but I loved that there was more than enough for me to enjoy. Even as a static dildo, the Self-Erecting Bionic Dildo Vibrator was alluring as a sexually penetrative pleasure tool, with its rippled shaft and phallic style tip. The balls at the base promised frenzied, slaptastic sessions of ecstasy. Add in the bionic, self-erecting element, plus the strap-on sex potential, and the Lovehoney UPRIZE Self-Erecting Bionic Dildo Vibrator was a complete winner for me.
Despite my regular avoidance of sex toys which seemed too techy and complex (you know the type; you need to pore over the instruction manual for a week before attempting to use the thing in some sort of weird, bedroom-based examination setting), I didn’t have any issues with the world’s first bionic dildo. After realising it was possible to leave the UPRIZE Dildo switched on after the first few uses (spotting the buttons still lit up at the side and rushing it on to charge in case it was almost dead when I came to use it next), I trained myself to check it was properly off.
Video: me wearing the Lovehoney UPRIZE bionic dildo in the matching UPRIZE strap-on harness, demonstrating the Auto-Erect tech going from flaccid to fully erect at the press of the remote.
With such a novel, attention-grabbing feature as ‘erections at the touch of a button’, you might think that less thought had been given to the vibrating element. Not so. Although I didn’t use every one of the ten vibrating settings on offer with the Lovehoney UPRIZE Self-Erecting Bionic Dildo Vibrator, the most powerful constant vibration was powerful enough to bring me to a clitoral orgasm when I rested the tip of the dildo against myself. Which is saying something for a mains-powered wand fan.
It was fantastic that a remote control was included, and this wasn’t too difficult to figure out or remember how to use, either. Three simple buttons to increase/decrease vibration, erect or de-erect the dildo, and turn off or on. The remote synced to the dildo as it was supposed to, each time, and it was lightweight and comfortable to use.
I wished it were possible to use the erection function while the Dildo Vibrator was inside me, but I understood why the instructions cautioned not to erect it while it was being enjoyed internally. The mechanics must have needed to move unhindered by the natural clenching nature of either a vagina or anal area, otherwise you risked damaging the dildo. The Lovehoney UPRIZE Self-Erecting Bionic Dildo Vibrator was a fun (if sizable) packer when worn with the Lovehoney UPRIZE Strap-On Harness, as you could pop it underneath a flared skirt (or wear boldly outside your jeans!) while the dildo was ‘down’, then erect it at the touch of a button to give someone a pleasant surprise.
The 8-inch Lovehoney UPRIZE Self-Erecting Bionic Dildo Vibrator felt quite heavy when in the Lovehoney UPRIZE Strap-On Harness, but despite that it never fell out, even while I walked about wearing it and waved it around a bit. During strap-on sex the dildo was obviously anchored while in your partner, and there was no risk of it disappearing into them even in the event it slipped from the O-ring. Even if there wasn’t an entire 8 inches to ‘lose’, the UPRIZE Dildo was finished with a large ‘balls’ area forming a handy flared base before the suction cup/strap-on harness compatible disc on the bottom.
Speaking of suction, the suction cup on the Lovehoney UPRIZE Self-Erecting Bionic Dildo Vibrator wasn’t the most amazing suction cup on a sex toy I’d ever seen. It stuck for a little while but during use (say, on the side of the bath) it would come unstuck each time. I think the base needed to be firmer and more concave in order to form a reliable suction cup base; right now it felt like a convenient coincidence that the base gave a little suction as well as providing harness compatibility.
Happily, the Self-Erecting Bionic Dildo Vibrator was fully waterproof. The remote control was not waterproof, however, so you’d leave that in the bedroom if you were UPRIZE-ing in the bath or shower. The dildo vibe worked particularly well when you coated it with water based lubricant first; this avoided any risk of unpleasant chafing from the silicone material.
I enjoyed several breath-taking, leg-wobbling, spine-tingling, sheet-clenching orgasms with the Self-Erecting Bionic Dildo Vibrator and absolutely loved the fact there was a strap-on harness accessory too. You could use the UPRIZE Dildo in so many ways (alone, with a partner, vaginally, anally, packing, waving around at a strap-on sex party, to fulfil your erections at the touch of a button fantasies) that it felt like it was worth every penny of the price.
My Verdict
Innovative and revolutionary must be the two most overused words in the sex toy industry, but sometimes, a toy comes along which is certainly different to everything else up to that point. Sure, the Lovehoney UPRIZE Self-Erecting Bionic Dildo Vibrator was a silicone-covered, vibrating phallus, which was certainly nothing new. But being able to produce an erection, and remove it again, at the touch of a button made it extraordinarily special.
There were luxurious features too, such as a choice of 10 vibrating settings, a suction-cup base which doubled as strap-on harness compatibility (with the branded UPRIZE Strap-On Harness available separately), and the UPRIZE Dildo being fully waterproof. It was also controllable via wireless remote control, which not only kept the pleasure and passion hassle-free, but ensured you could magically produce an erection, no matter who you were, in a matter of seconds.
The only downsides for me were the fact that it made an extraordinary noise when erecting (it made me giggle), the remote control wasn’t waterproof, the suction cup wasn’t the best I’d ever tried, and it wasn’t the cheapest sex toy out there. But then, noting all the features and the touch-button erection novelty, I wouldn’t have expected it to be.
It retailed for £129.99 at the time of my review, with the UPRIZE Strap-On Harness priced separately at £24.99. I scored it 9/10, and looking back from 2026, I still think that was a fair verdict. The UPRIZE remains the most genuinely innovative dildo I’ve ever reviewed.
FAQ: Self-Erecting & Bionic Dildos
Is the Lovehoney UPRIZE still available to buy?
No. The Lovehoney UPRIZE Self-Erecting Bionic Dildo range, including the UPRIZE Strap-On Harness, has been discontinued and is no longer sold by Lovehoney or any other authorised retailer that I’m aware of. You may occasionally see second-hand listings, but I’d strongly advise against buying a used sex toy, particularly one with internal mechanics where wear and hygiene can’t be guaranteed.
Are there any other self-erecting dildos on the market?
At the time of writing (2026), I’m not aware of any other mass-market sex toy that replicates the UPRIZE’s exact flaccid-to-erect mechanism at the touch of a button. The patented technology was, and remains, unique. The closest equivalents in spirit are thrusting dildos like the Velvet Thruster range, which deliver mechanical novelty and premium build quality even though the action is different.
What’s the closest alternative if I wanted the UPRIZE as a packer?
If you loved the idea of a dildo that could appear flaccid under clothes and then become erect on demand, no current product offers that exact transformation. For pure packing realism, the Mr Limpy range from Fleshlight gives a very convincing soft bulge. For erect-only wear, any silicone realistic dildo paired with a comfortable harness like the Lovehoney BASICS Strap-On Harness Kit will work well.
Why was the Lovehoney UPRIZE discontinued?
Lovehoney haven’t publicly stated a reason, but luxury novelty toys with complex internal mechanics are notoriously expensive to manufacture, and the UPRIZE sat at a high price point that limited its mainstream appeal. It’s also worth noting that the original product was launched in 2018, so it had a solid commercial run before being retired.
Thanks so much to Lovehoney for sending the original UPRIZE Self-Erecting Bionic Dildo Vibrator and UPRIZE Strap-On Harness to me back in 2018 to review.
