I’ve tried System JO flavoured lubes before (at the ETO show they had a stand and were serving it as topping for soft serve ice cream) but only really got the chance to taste the fruity flavours. Now I love liquorice, so when Cara offered this System JO H2O Black Licorice Flavoured Lube to the Pleasure Panel to review I jumped at the chance to try it.

The System JO H2O Black Licorice Flavoured Lube is a water-based silky smooth lube, free from artificial flavours. Full disclosure it does contain glycerine, and parabens which I know lots of people prefer to avoid if they can.
I really like the texture of this lube. It’s nice and slippery without feeling sticky or heavy. It is quite runny as well, so spreads around easily, and a little goes a long way. It also comes in a handy 30ml bottle, which is great for travelling……or if like me you like to keep a selection of flavours on hand.
As soon as I opened it (you have to unscrew it for first use so you can remove the hygiene seal) the scent hit me, and it was not the scent I was expecting. This smelt really intensely of aniseed, and I was strongly reminded of when I was employed as bar staff in a working men’s club and all the little old dears drank Pernod.
I didn’t like the smell any more now than I did then. But I was willing to give it a go. It did not taste of liquorice…….but maybe it did taste of licorice. If you like aniseed you will love this. However, System Jo may want to consider changing the flavour name for their UK market, this is definitely aniseed rather than liquorice.
Overall the lube itself was great, the flavour was not for me though, and because of the glycerine and parabens I’m unlikely to use this lube for penetrative sex.
