MEO AlphaMale Water Based Anal Lube Review

By Nat and Tom

First, I’d like to thank Cara for sending us the MEO AlphaMale Water Based Anal Lube in exchange for a review here on the blog. We have only tried one other essential product from MEO before, but the previous experience was great, so we had high hopes for this one. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to our expectations this time around and we were left feeling disappointed.

The lube arrived wrapped in plastic, which is great for those who like the piece of mind knowing that their lube hasn’t been tampered with before use. The MEO AlphaMale Water Based Anal Lube is free from parabens, but it does contain glycerin and propylene glycol, so if you have known sensitivities to these ingredients, I’d give this lube a miss. I have encountered sensitivities to these things before, although it doesn’t happen with every product, so I knew a patch test would be essential. All seemed to be fine following this, so we went ahead and used it for its designed purpose.

MEO AlphaMale Water Based Anal Lube Review

It wasn’t until I used this on my nether regions that I began to feel something wasn’t quite right. I noticed that the relaxing agents in this product had begun to kick in and I felt these were starting to become irritating, which made me feel the opposite of relaxed. I didn’t feel numbed, which is a plus, as I don’t think it’s a good idea to be numb when participating in anal play, you should be able to feel any discomfort or pain, which I still could with this product, although it wasn’t from the type of play I was engaging in. I would describe the irritation as similar to the experience I had with a Durex Tingle lube, which left me feeling itchy and added a burning, heated sensation which was the complete opposite of stimulating.

I was expecting this to have a thick, gel-like consistency considering this is an anal lubricant, but I was quite saddened when I got the opposite. The MEO AlphaMale Water Based Anal Lube is quite runny and thin, with not much substance to it, so I don’t think it’s ideal for this type of play. I think it would be a fine thickness for vaginal use, but for back-door sessions, I think something thicker is required. If the lubricant had been thicker, I don’t think there would have been any need for those added relaxing agents.

MEO AlphaMale Water Based Anal Lube Review

It was a shame that I couldn’t use the MEO AlphaMale Water Based Anal Lube more than a handful of times because I do think it has some good qualities going for it. It’s easy to use due to the handy flip top and squeeze method of dispensing, although it might be difficult to get the last few drops out. It has no off-putting, chemical scent to it, like several other lubricants I have encountered, but it’s not completely odourless. A very subtle scent, similar to baby powder or cream, can be picked up on if you’re up close and personal with the product. It also has a nice texture, as it’s not greasy, tacky or sticky to the touch.

Overall, I would advise caution when using the MEO AlphaMale Water Based Anal Lube if you know you’re sensitive. It passed my patch test, but still caused me irritation, so I’d advise testing it on an external part of your genitalia before activity begins, just to double-check and be on the safe side. As I couldn’t get along with it due to the burning sensation it gave me, I’d have to rate this on the lower end of the scale. It would have been much better had it had a thicker water-base to work with and no relaxing agents.
