When I saw Cara had the new Lovehoney Moonlight lingerie range on the Pleasure Panel this month I was so excited. When she allocated me the Lovehoney Plus Size Moonlight Black Plunge Basque Set I pretty much did back flips.

One of the great things about Lovehoney lingerie is they do ranges in both base sizes and plus sizes. For us bigger girls this is great news. I’m sick of lingerie shopping and it’s either all designed for a size ten (try getting 40 FF boobs to hold up in wisps of lace!) or only available up to size 14.
Having blown more than one wage on Lovehoney lingerie I wasn’t surprised when I opened Cara’s package to find the Lovehoney Moonlight Plunge Basque Set was in a clear plastic bag. The packaging is always simple and I don’t know why it would be anything else.
The Lovehoney Plus Size Moonlight Black Plunge Basque Set is a vision of lace and satin. Wine and black in colour it’s a classic combination. The wine is a deep, rich red which I love. I struggle with red colours because of the clash with my hair but this deeper hue allows me to get away with it.
The main body of the Basque is black mesh, interspersed with plastic boning. This frame the centre panel of gorgeous wine-coloured satin overlaid with black scallop patterned lace. The panelled effect creates an hour-glass silhouette to the eye and is extremely flattering.
The plastic bones lead down to a deep, luxurious lace trim around the entire hem of the Lovehoney Moonlight Plunge Basque Set. Being lace the trim allows a glimpse of the top of your thighs and the wine-coloured G string beneath without being too overt. It also means you could wear it without the G string for an added sexy surprise.
Four wine-coloured suspenders emerge from beneath the black lace trim. These are detachable for versatility, this means you can team the Lovehoney Plus Size Moonlight Black Plunge Basque Set with stockings or hold ups, whichever is your preference. The suspenders are adjustable, great for a short arse like me who often finds suspenders far too long. I find the rubber based clips used by Lovehoney makes their suspenders super secure and rarely find any problems with stockings pinging loose.
Unusually for a plunge item, the cups are extremely supportive. I often find anything with a bit of plunge my boobs fall out every time I move. I think the difference is the Lovehoney Moonlight Plunge Basque Set has a smaller degree of plunge. But this is enhanced by an optical illusion.
The cups are half satin and half black lace overlay. This travels down into a deep plunging V ending almost at the waist, exposing that rich coloured satin. This draws the eye straight to the cleavage (as if you needed it). The lace has a delicate scalloped trim making a striking contrast against the red.
The cups of the Lovehoney Moonlight Plunge Basque Set themselves are a great fit and very comfortable. There is plenty of lift and support and it creates a dramatic cleavage. In the centre of the cups is the standard Lovehoney bow with logo charm. In matching wine colour, this is a cute little detail. Being moulded the cups are great for those of us blessed (or cursed depending how you look at it) with bigger boobs.
Special mention must go to the straps of the Lovehoney Plus Size Moonlight Black Plunge Basque Set. Good and thick in size they don’t cut in, despite the amount of support given. The main strap is wine red but they’re trimmed with a black lace panel which connects around the back of your neck. This has a two-fold effect. Firstly, it looks beautiful, the lace against your skin is a lovely touch and feels sexy. Secondly, it seemed to add more support to the cups and made the straps even more comfortable by spreading the weight.
Around the back the Lovehoney Moonlight Plunge Basque Set has 4 rows of hook and eyes to fasten it. I love this so much as it gives you the ability to change the fit slightly. My weight goes up and down all the time and that adjustment means I don’t have to keep replacing my favourites. There is a good couple of inches difference in the size between the first and fourth hook.
Around the middle sits a wine coloured satin belt. This is tied into a large bow. I really don’t like the belt. It feels a bit extra and I can never get the bow to tie nicely. If you were thick around the waist this would probably be awkward as well. The Lovehoney Plus Size Moonlight Black Plunge Basque Set is beautiful enough to not need this additional detail. It is removeable, however you’ll be left with the large belt loops visible on the side.
Wearing the Lovehoney Moonlight Plunge Basque Set is a dream. It’s well fitting and flattering. Despite being lingerie it’s surprisingly comfortable as well. I love how sexy I feel, it’s very retro feeling and has almost a Hollywood Starlet quality about it. I feel like a Femme Fatale in some old film noir. I teamed it with black back-seamed stockings and spiked heels to great effect.
I love how the Lovehoney Plus Size Moonlight Black Plunge Basque Set has been made to flatter as well as enhance and clearly a lot of thought has gone into the design, particularly on the plus size element. There are only a couple of things I dislike about the Lovehoney Moonlight Plunge Basque Set but they are worth mentioning.
Firstly, I’m irritated at the belt. It feels unnecessary and I spend my life adjusting it. Secondly the lace trim on the straps is beautiful but it’s very fiddly to fasten behind your own neck. This is ok if you have someone to do it up for you, but kind of ruins the surprise of unveiling your look. Thirdly the ubiquitous G String. I’m always grateful for the inclusion of matching knickers with lingerie but I would love just once to see a full bottom knicker included. Not everyone loves a G string and not everyone can rock one. This is my perennial moan about plus size lingerie.
Small moans there, but they are things I noticed when wearing the Lovehoney Plus Size Moonlight Black Plunge Basque Set. In sizing, I always find it slightly soul destroying that I must order a larger size than I need in lingerie to accommodate my boobs but I’ve become accustomed to this adjustment. I would order up when sizing as I do feel like this ran a little on the small side. There is the adjustment in the fastening to adjust a larger size down and for the larger busted it will be more comfortable. I’m a size 18 in the shops and a 40FF bra and I had the 1X-2X and it was a little on the snug side.
Good lingerie is like an instant injection of confidence. It’s flattering, smoothing support brings out the vixen in even the most unsure of us. I loved the Moonlight Plunge Basque Set so much I went and ordered most of the range. I would definitely recommend this to any plus sized lingerie lover looking for a stunning Christmas look this winter.
