I first saw the Lovehoney Moonlight Black Plunge Basque Set appear online when it was launched and I was immediately drawn to the colour. The way the dark pink shows through the black lace is absolutely stunning! I’m a huge lover or black lingerie, and the little pop of colour here adds an extra dimension of gorgeousness! This is also carried through in the satin feel tie belt.
Like most lingerie sets, the Lovehoney Moonlight Black Plunge Basque Set comes complete with a matching g-string (although I always find these to be a let down).
The Lovehoney Moonlight Black Plunge Basque Set is something I would buy for myself, if only it wasn’t for the hefty price tag. As someone who only wears this kind of lingerie occasionally in the bedroom, £39.99 seems a bit steep.
First Impressions
When the Lovehoney Moonlight Black Plunge Basque Set arrived I couldn’t wait to open the package and check out how it looked in real life! My initial impression was all about how sexy the colour combination was. I couldn’t wait to see what it looked like on.
Fitting
I’m a UK size 12 and tend to find that Lovehoney’s medium size 10-12 fits me just right. My bra size is roughly 34C/D and I have quite fleshy hips!
As expected the G string didn’t fit comfortably. This wasn’t a great shock or disappointment as nobody really buys these items based on the matching thong/g-string, it is just nice to know there’s one included for the people who do fit in them.
I found the string part to dig in, as the size of the g-string meant that it was sitting around the widest part of my hips, giving me that awful fat hangover look! If it was a bit more elastically then it might not dig in. Also due to the size of it I had exposed bum crack above the top (these was even more exaggerated and uncomfortable when moving!)
The basque however was an absolute delight! It hugged my curves beautifully and made me feel streamlined, sexy and gave me a boost of confidence! It felt supportive around the bust and gave me a bit of uplift and a nice shape.
The Basque in Use
For me I love wearing sexy lingerie in the bedroom, so I prepped myself for a good night in! I’m a stocking lover so I wore a pair of black stockings and attached them to the suspender straps that come with the basque. The basque itself I found easier to put on backwards as it does up at the back. It has 4 rows of long bra style fasteners so is adjustable depending on how tight you like it. It was a bit fiddly to do up, as you would get several done up then it would ping open!
Once they were all done up it was pretty sturdy and I wasn’t worried about it opening by accident. I then twisted the basque round and adjusted it so my boobs were in the cups and the straps over my arms. Then I realised that there is another bit to do up, at the back of the neck. This took me a little while as I couldn’t see what I was doing and I was getting more frustrated! I contemplated leaving it for my husband to do up but then I wanted to surprise him with me being dressed and ready!
Finally I tied the ribbon around the waist and I was ready! Looking in the mirror I felt so glamorous and it was a real pick me up after the awful few weeks I had had prior to the testing!
My husband absolutely loved the look of the basque (he got to see the g string before I removed it as it was too small to be comfortable!). He commented on the colour being nice and the fact that it looked comfortable as well as being sexy.
I found the waist tie to be a bit annoying in use, although you could always remove it and use it to restrain your partner or yourself. It’s soft and silky so comfortable for those trying this who don’t like the feel of rope.
Overall I love this product, and am so grateful for the opportunity to test it. But now comes the tricky part! Would I buy it myself?
Unfortunately I would have to say no.
Although it is a beautiful garment, at £39.99 it’s just too pricey compared to similar products around. In the past I would have said yes, as Lovehoney were famous for their 365 day return policy, but now the rules have changed, things have become a little muddied when it comes to lingerie returns.
The basque arrives attached to the g-string so there is no way of trying it on without detaching the two. Whether you returned it as it was too large/too small in a used condition, its unclear whether you could exchange it.
Conclusion
Overall I would give the product a 9/10 just for its sex appeal and the way it made me feel wearing it.
