Fun Factory Volta Vibrator Review

By Miss Scarlet

I was genuinely ecstatic to be chosen to review the Fun Factory Volta Vibrator. I have never used a Fun Factory product before, but Fun Factory is a brand of sex toy that has leaped out at me on many occasions. Fun Factory packaging is always vibrant and funky, and the products look innovative and of a high quality. The Fun Factory brand conjures up an image of guaranteed pleasure.

Cara kindly enclosed a press release with the Fun Factory Volta Vibrator, which describes the product as:

‘An external vibrator with two powerfully- fluttering tips that boost sensitivity as well as amplifying the toy’s already impressive vibration. The Volta is the latest in the award-winning G5 line of bestselling vibrators with deep rumbling motors.’

Packaging

The packaging for the Fun Factory Volta Vibrator comprises an outer cardboard sleeve, which shows an image of the product on the front, back and one side. The other side features four informative symbols, which state that the Fun Factory Volta is 100% waterproof, has different speeds and stimulation modes, is made from body-safe silicone and includes a USB lead. It also says, ‘press Fun to play’!

The outer sleeve conceals a gold box embellished with the Fun Factory logo. The lid lifts back to show a gold cardboard insert with an instruction manual attached. The cardboard lifts out to reveal a striking red inner packaging in which sits the star of the show, the Fun Factory Volta Vibrator. A red USB cable is concealed under further red cardboard packaging.

The handle of the Fun Factory Volta is attached to the inner packaging by a red security seal. I had to break this to remove the Fun Factory Volta Vibrator from the inner packaging, which reassured me that no-one had tampered with, or used, the product before I received it.

Information Provided

Three reference items are included:

  • A generic Fun Factory vibrator user manual
  • A ‘leaflet entitled ‘Warnings’
  • Instructions regarding the travel lock feature

The Fun Factory website has a page devoted to the Volta, which contains a great deal of useful product information and a very funky video. The strapline for the Volta is ‘power to the clit’. This statement certainly sums up the Volta, as I found out!

Design

The Fun Factory Volta Vibrator is unlike any sex toy I have seen before and, quite frankly, is a stunning work of art. The shaft is made from bright orange medical-grade silicone and has two ‘tongues’ at the tip, which give the Volta a very dolphin-like appearance!  The Volta is ergonomically designed, as evidenced by the graceful curves of the shaft, and the sleek, smooth white moulded base with its looped handle. In the centre of the base is the trademark red Fun button, which switches the Volta off and on. Also present are plus and minus buttons, which control the functions. A magnetic charging point is located at the far tip of the base.

The Fun Factory Volta is available in three colours: Petrol (blue), Vitamin (orange) and Blackberry (purple).  The shade of orange is incredibly vibrant – I don’t think the images in this review capture just how truly bright it is.

Charging

The Fun Factory Volta Vibrator is charged by connecting a magnetic red USB cable to a two-pronged charging point on the end of the product. I love the red cable as it’s a quirky feature and makes a pleasant change to black or white.

Once the magnetic cable is clicked onto the charging point of the Fun Factory Volta, the red Fun button flashes once and then the minus button starts to slowly blink.

The stages within the charging cycle are indicated with different light patterns in the usual manual:

  • 0-33% – minus button blinks
  • 33-66% – minus button constant and plus button blinks
  • 66-100% – minus and plus buttons constant and red Fun button blinks

This is the first time that I have encountered a product that charges using a magnetic connector rather than one that fits securely into the product. Fun Factory refer to this feature as Click ‘n’ Charge’. The magnetic connector appeared to be reasonably secure, but it did take a few attempts to get it positioned correctly. However, I found on one occasion that the connector became dislodged on one side when the USB cable moved slightly while charging.

The user manual indicates that 100% charge should be achieved in eight hours, but I found that the Fun Factory Volta Vibrator was at full charge at around seven hours.

The Fun Factory website says that 45 minutes of play can be achieved on the highest setting. This is reasonably accurate, as I did use it a few times and then tested the various functions repeatedly before the power died.

Features

The Fun Factory Volta Vibrator is powered up by pressing the red Fun button for half a second. The red Fun button is pressed again for half a second to switch the Volta off.

The half second delay is a travel lock feature, which means the toy can’t accidentally be switched on in transit. A great addition in my opinion; I’m sure I’m not alone in having heard a buzz or feeling a rumble coming from my bag while on public transport or in a shop…

The plus and minus buttons are then pressed to cycle through the six levels of intensity. The vibrations are deep and rumbling, especially at setting three and upwards. The default setting is level three, and the minus button needs to be pressed to get to levels one and two.

There are also six rhythm patterns that follow on from the constant settings. When in any of the rhythm patterns, pressing the minus button will take you back to the highest constant setting rather than the previous rhythm pattern.  When in the last rhythm pattern, pressing the plus button takes you back to the first rhythm pattern. The user manual helpfully shows the cycle of all the settings in a flow diagram.

The Fun Factory Volta has the option of saving your favourite program by pressing the red Fun button for two seconds. However, despite several attempts, I was unable to get this to work for me.

Use

The Fun Factory Volta Vibrator is a versatile toy and the two tongues are designed to be used for a whole host of purposes. I was really keen to try it out on my partner as the Fun Factory website says the Volta is ‘great for BJs’.

One important point to note is that the Fun Factory Volta is not suitable for anal use, as stated in the instruction manual by an obvious symbol.

I recommend that the Fun Factory Volta Vibrator is used with a water-based lube, as the flicking of the silicone tongues can be a little uncomfortable.

Nipple Play

Nipple play is a guaranteed way to turn me on, so the potential for nipple stimulation was one of the main reasons that I was interested in reviewing the Fun Factory Volta Vibrator.

Settings one and two were very gentle and didn’t really give me much sensation at all. Setting three was tolerable, but nipple stimulation from setting four upwards was more harsh than I expected, and similar to the sensation of having your nipples flicked with fingertips.

Power to the Clit

The main advantage of the Volta is its versatility of use. I found using the points of the tongues directly on my clit at setting three and above a little uncomfortable. Use on settings one and two felt pleasurable, but not strong enough to bring me to orgasm. However, turning the Volta on its side to use the edges of the two tongues together was a different story!  Settings one to four all felt good, but the power of settings five and six produced incredible sensations and resulted in very powerful orgasms.

Using the Fun Factory Volta Vibrator to massage the vulva in general is very pleasurable. The Fun Factory website suggests placing one of the tongues on the clit and one in the vaginal entrance. This did feel pleasant, but I found it difficult to keep both tongues of the Volta in place. I tried using the Volta internally and, although quite pleasurable, this did not result in an orgasm.

I did try out the rhythm patterns, which all gave good sensations, but I know that pulsing patterns will never bring me to orgasm.

The Fun Factory Volta has many different options for use and experimentation is definitely required to find out how it works best for each person.

BJ

As mentioned above, the Fun Factory website suggests using the Volta ‘for BJs’. I applied a small amount of lube, which obviously made everything a bit slippery.  I subsequently found that it was difficult to keep the tongues in position around the penis. I changed the position of the Volta and held the tips of the tongues to the head of the penis instead, which resulted in an orgasm fairly quickly.

Use in Water

I submersed the Fun Factory Volta Vibrator in a basin of water and all functions still worked afterwards.

Summary

  • Ergonomically designed with easy grip handle
  • Rechargeable with red USB cable
  • Very powerful, rumbling vibrations
  • Versatile to use for a wide range of solo or joint fun
  • Experimentation and perseverance required
  • Not gender specific
  • Waterproof
  • Excellent product information on Fun Factory website
  • Magnetic charging connector can be unreliable

  1. Scarlet, you are the second or third person to review the Fun Factory Volta and write the following: “The Fun Factory Volta has the option of saving your favourite program by pressing the red Fun button for two seconds.” The Fun Factory Volta does not have this feature. I contacted The Fun Factory after reading of this feature in other reviews prior to your review and was told it does not exist on the Volta. Other then being able to lock it so it does not accidentally operate, there is no feature for saving programs enjoyed. I just thought you should know. Enjoyed your review and already have the orange/red one which you are showing in your review and it is my most favorite. Saying much for someone in my late 50s and new to toys.
