Vibratex Hitachi Magic Wand Vibrator Original Review

The very first wand vibe I ever owned -which instantly ignited my love affair with wand vibrators– was the Vibratex Hitachi Magic Wand Vibrator Original. Back then, and we’re talking over 10 years ago now, the Original Hitachi Wand was available from a few retailers in the UK. You’ll probably find it difficult if not impossible to buy within the UK these days, and we’ll get to the reasons for that in a little while. First, let me do something I’ve been meaning to do for a long time… write my Vibratex Hitachi Magic Wand Vibrator Original review.

Packaging

The Vibratex Hitachi Magic Wand Vibrator Original came in a white, glossy cardboard box which I remember being extremely thick and durable. I don’t have the box anymore, it was a long time ago now. Once I removed the Hitachi Wand I could see why the box needed to be so sturdy…

First Impressions

This thing is enormous! It seemed heavy and unwieldy… I couldn’t understand the widespread popularity of this sex toy when I first took it out of the box. It was more like a mini domestic appliance than a handheld orgasm-inducer. Or some sort of weapon.

The Vibratex Hitachi Magic Wand Vibrator Original I received was mainly white, with blue highlights around the controls. The head has a sort of dappled effect, and I wasn’t too sure what it was made from. The handle was clearly made with durable plastic, leading to the long wire which plugs into a wall socket. As it is US-manufactured, and my Hitachi Wand came from a UK-based retailer, I received a US to UK mains adaptor which I duly connected up.

It did feel a little like going back a few hundred years to the enormous first vibrators; however, unlike those early types, setting up the Hitachi Wand seemed to be inducing hysteria rather than eradicating it.

Powering Up

It was incredibly easy to set up and switch on the Vibratex Hitachi Magic Wand Vibrator Original. Just plug into a wall socket, make sure that’s powered on, then use the switch on the wand handle to turn on the toy.

My Vibratex Hitachi Magic Wand Vibrator Original is off when the switch is level; depress to one side for ‘low’ vibrations and depress to the other side for ‘high’.

How It Feels

I can still remember the overwhelming shock the first time I ever switched on my Vibratex Hitachi Magic Wand Vibrator Original. Never before had I seen, been near, held or experienced such a powerful vibrator. Those jelly Rampant Rabbits from back in the day had nothing on this thing (glad to report they’ve improved considerably since then) – even my longtime fave the Ann Summers Pulsatron didn’t hold a candle to this beast.

And that was before I felt the thing intimately.

From simply the judders up my arm holding the Vibratex Hitachi Magic Wand Vibrator Original while switched on, I knew I was about to have an almost magical experience. Standing there in my bedroom, placing the ‘switched to low’ Hitachi head to the apex of my thighs – through my jeans, no less – I closed my eyes and braced for impact.

And IMPACT it was. I can’t tell you how few seconds it took for me to have a mind-blowing orgasm because all I can remember of that moment is WOW. Monstrous rumbling vibration. Insta-triggered clit. Orgasm. Shaking legs. Fumble for off switch. Collapse.

Like I mentioned, this was through my jeans.

Subsequently, I of course reached for my Vibratex Hitachi Magic Wand Vibrator Original whenever I wanted to orgasm. I could tease myself over erogenous zones and the surrounds of my vulva if I wanted to build the tension first, but in reality that’s just not me. When I want to come, I want to come NOW. This really was a magic wand for me, in that it guaranteed almost instant orgasms every time. After a while I noticed myself switching to the ‘high’ vibrations in order to hit my own high, but the Vibratex Hitachi Magic Wand Vibrator Original never let me down.

In fact, it still turns on today, some ten years later –although my use of the Hitachi Wand dwindled eventually to never, after those early few years. We’ll get to why, in a little while.

Summary

If you’re in the USA and you’re looking for a reliable, powerful wand vibrator, the Vibratex Hitachi Magic Wand Vibrator Original is still a damn good bet. Unlike a decade ago, there are now many competitors to the Hitachi in the wand vibrator market, so it’s worth your while shopping around. However, if you’re a wand vibe fan like I am, it’s definitely worth adding this classic to your collection. It’s easy to figure out, easy to operate and solidly built.

Unfortunately, this original version does have a TPR head, rather than the more favourable silicone. TPR is porous and therefore less hygienic over time and through use, even if you attempt to clean it as thoroughly as possible. To me, the Vibratex Hitachi Magic Wand Vibrator Original is recommended more as a collector’s item rather than the top choice from the world of wand vibrators.

Champion in its day, but since beaten in terms of body-safety, durability and arguably power by other contenders. Plus, the safety issues for UK users. Which brings me to…

Why You (Probably) Can’t Buy a Hitachi Wand in the UK

The Vibratex Hitachi Magic Wand Vibrator Original is a USA manufactured product. At the time of manufacture, it was intended to be sold and used within the USA. Although plenty of original Hitachi Wands made it over to the UK to be sold through adult retailers, what wasn’t known at first is that the power doesn’t 100% safely convert through the US to UK adaptors.

Although I absolutely loved using my Vibratex Hitachi Magic Wand Vibrator Original back in those early years, I did notice that as I spent longer and longer using the wand, either on myself or with partners, it got incredibly hot. Seriously hot. Not sexy hot, I mean ouch, I may need an oven glove in a moment hot.

I thought I was just being a little extreme in the use of my Hitachi Original (I do tend to use things rigorously, and until they break), but speaking to a Vibratex representative revealed something surprising. The Vibratex Hitachi Magic Wand Vibrator Original should never have been available for purchase in the UK; in fact Vibratex explicitly forbade it being sold in my country. Well, that was a shock.

So there you have it – why you probably can’t buy the Vibratex Hitachi Magic Wand Vibrator Original in the UK.

But: good news, wand vibrator lovers! You can buy absolutely fantastic (& my current favourite) powerful wand vibrators in the UK by reading & clicking through my handy guide. I also wrote a guide to the current best powerful vibrators for extra strong orgasms in my opinion & experience.

Where You Can Buy Your Vibratex Hitachi Magic Wand Vibrator Original

If you’re still keen to get your hands on the Vibratex Hitachi Magic Wand Vibrator Original, and you’re US-based, it’s definitely still available for you. The original version is a little more difficult to get hold of than more modern incarnations, and the one I’ve found is still slightly upgraded (in aesthetics at least) than the one I originally received and still own.

But you can buy the Vibratex Hitachi Magic Wand Vibrator Original from Pink Cherry for $59.95.

Ask me 10 years ago and I would have rated the Hitachi Magic Wand 11/10. Knowing what I know now? Sorry original Hitachi Wand – you’ve been beaten by modern wands which are safe in all ways and outstandingly powerful.
