Durex Embrace Pleasure Gels Review
I received the new Embrace Gels directly from Durex in order to provide an honest and fair review for them. These gels (there are two in the pack) are special effect gels, to be applied to the intimate areas of either a man or a woman, to enhance physical sensations prior to or during sexual activity.
The product packaging is recognisably Durex, with a colourful sturdy plastic box containing the clamshell packaging securely holding the two bottles of gel together. With a cuddling connotation, the two bottles of intimacy gel are shaped to entirely tessellate, with a curved shape to both. The bottles are pink and purple, the usual colours of sex products – they should appeal to the majority and to either gender/couples. The delivery of the pack was professional and very discreet.
The bottles can also be turned into cute mice. See?
What you get
Each bottle holds 60ml of gel and the gel is very viscous and gloopy. There’s little risk of using too much when you squeeze the bottle. To dispense from either bottle, flip up the cap and squeeze the gel through the small top opening.
The gels are labelled Tingling (purple bottle) and Warming (pink bottle).
Do they work
Gels and lubes are what Durex do best, in my opinion. You can read my other Durex lubes and sex toys reviews here. I can safely say that the Embrace gels do as they say on the labels. It just takes a dot of gel to give the desired effects. The warming gel starts working within a second or two, gently warming the area you’ve applied it to. The tingling gel takes a little longer and works best after blowing lightly on the area too. The tingling effect lasts for quite a while and isn’t quite as intense as the previous incantation of ‘tingle’ from Durex, the Play Tingle lubricant. So, if you found that lube too intense for you, this tingling gel in the Embrace pack should be perfect.
If you decide to try them together, the warming gel will be the dominant gel (ooh-er missus) and will be the gel that is felt instead of the tingling sensation.
The only other things I feel I should point out is that these are most definitely gels, they are not lubricants. Don’t buy them thinking they will lubricate – well, any more than any other gel. They’re not quite sticky, but they are definitely not a slippery lubricant either. You can tell that the gel is on the skin and after use I did have to wash any remnants of the gels off my skin in order to feel comfortable again. Perhaps others can get on with their day/sleep with the feeling of gel residue on them but I just find it annoying after sexy-time has finished.
The bottles don’t stand up by themselves either, but it’s fairly easy to flip open the caps and close them again, which is what you need to ensure you do before placing the containers down on a surface.
The gels will reactivate with a bit of saliva during your fun session, but easily wash off with enough water or ideally, soap and water. They’re compatible with any sex toy, as they’re water based – and they wont stain sheets or clothing. The gels are actually odourless and colourless. I can’t say they’re taste-free as they do have a taste, but it’s not an appetising one so avoid any oral sex using them, or direct licking of the gels, in my opinion.
What’s in them
Tingling (purple bottle) ingredients: Aqua (water), propylene glycol, hydroxyethylcellulose, PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil, aroma, benzoic acid, sodium hydroxide.
Warming (pink bottle) ingredients: Glycerin, propanediol, propylene glycol, PEG-8, hydroxyethylcellulose, benzoic acid, aqua (water), citric acid, vanillyl butyl ether.
Due to the presence of sugars such as glycerine and propylene glycol these gels wouldn’t be suitable for women who find that they are sensitive to sugars used in the vaginal area.
The Durex Embrace Gels pack is priced at £9.99 and presents fun opportunities for enhanced arousal, foreplay and sex whether as part of a couple or to innovate your masturbation sessions. You can find the Durex Embrace Gels at Boots, Amazon or at Lovehoney.
