Playing With Fire by Jane Burrelli Erotic Book Review (Bride of Fire Book 2)
By Pleasure Panel reviewer Kikka_jennie
Hidden Embers by Jane Burrelli was part one of the Bride of Fire series (which I have also reviewed here), and I was offered part 2 via Cara Sutra’s Pleasure Panel: Playing with Fire by Jane Burrelli. I do enjoy reading continuations as the back story is already built up and I was looking forward to finding out how the relationship develops.
This is the continuation of the Ice Lord and Fire Princess’ relationship, although she doesn’t reveal that she is a princess to him until a little later on, but we are the reader know her background. There is more kink control in this book then the first but its a wonderful undercurrent to the main love story.
I really enjoyed how the story progressed from part one, the development of a lustful relationship to a mating pair while the Ice Lord is trying to run the city leaves warmth and smiles. The pair are again relatable as their relationship has difficulties and the Ice kingdom doesn’t seem to agree with the Lord’s decision in mate, the almost star crossed lovers theme is strong within this book, although you only see from one kingdoms side.
The characters are strong and the fact you see things from both perspectives as the book flips between Mira, the Fire Princess and the Ice Lord makes the book a wonderful and delightful read. It is wonderful to see the main characters develop in this book into more rounded characters as you understand more of the back story from the Ice kingdom.
I really enjoyed the kink scene, when the Ice Prince started his spanking of the Fire Princess it really made me smile, I could feel the power dynamic shift of her discipline being done, the description was in depth shows an understanding of spanking and power play in the scene. As the reader I could feel her hurt and upset as well as learning her lesson. This was reinforced with how women are treated in the ice kingdom, they appear to be the more submissive of the sexes where the Fire Princess has issues accepting this as she is more equal being from another kingdom.
I am so relieved to see one of my favourite phrasings from the first book being used in this book. The saying is used in place of “oh dear” – and it’s “Khatri’s tits”. It was only used once to the same smiling effect it had in the first book.
The first book was a slow burner and this one is also a similar vein, being slow but the story develops so well that you don’t mind.
I cant think of many negatives on this book, it was a wonderful balance of kink, relationship, learning and growth with the characters in such a approachable way. The language is easy to read and still approachable for teens and a wonderful fantasy based book. The only negative comment is the shortness of the story but I know there is more to come!
This book is a brilliant love story and continues well. I cant wait to read the next stage as more of their story unravels.
