Palm Power Throbbing Dong Inflatable Vibrating Butt Plug Review
By Pleasure Panel reviewer Tigerlily
I have a confession to make: I love inflatable butt plugs. I love the slow and tortuous inflation until it’s so full you can’t stop writhing around from discomfort, and the immediate relief when it’s rapidly deflated again. I love the fact you can hand control of that process over to someone else; its such a great punishment device. So having gone through an immeasurable number of them, I’d consider myself a bit of an expert. It’s with great pleasure then that this month I was given the opportunity to try out the Palm Power Throbbing Dong Inflatable Vibrating Butt Plug, available from online sex shops for the comparatively budget price of £17.95.
The Palm Power Throbbing Dong Inflatable Vibrating Butt Plug stood out in a sea of inflatables for three reasons:
- It vibrates. This is rare among inflatable plugs, though obviously not unique for a butt toy generally.
- It’s shaped like a 5-inch dildo, rather than an oversized egg.
- It has a suction cup base. That’s really not something I’ve seen in a butt plug. Because honestly, why would you put a suction cup on one?
With that out of the way, let’s take a closer look, and see if this Throbbing Dong is worth your well-earned wonga.
Design and Materials of the Palm Power Throbbing Dong Inflatable Vibrating Butt Plug
There’s a mix of materials here. The product is described as being made of latex, and the insertable piece does indeed both look and smell like latex. However, the suction cup base is a crystal clear jelly, which isn’t a colour you can make from latex (natural latex is more yellow), so that’s probably a PVC-based material that’s been glued on. The battery housing and controller is a shiny ABS plastic, while the inflation bulb seems is also either latex or PVC based.
So: the good news is, I don’t think you’ll be putting any PVC inside yourself when using this toy. Obviously, you should steer clear if you have a latex allergy. But so far, I haven’t had any adverse reactions to the main material. However, latex is a porous material, and as such, may hold bacteria. Be sure to clean it well before and after every use. You should also not store this toy alongside any silicone, or even touching other PVC toys. The chemicals in PVC can react to other materials. It may even be wise to use a latex conditioning oil on it occasionally to keep it supple.
The shaft of the Palm Power Throbbing Dong Inflatable Vibrating Butt Plug is 12cm from tip to base though the hose and electrical lead take a little away from that. Its also around 12.5cm circumference when un-inflated, with the motor housed at the tip. The lead is detachable from the controller, but not from the dong.
The controller requires two AA batteries, not supplied. The air tube also can’t be detached from the dong, though the bulb can be pulled off if you wanted to inflate, so it could be left in discreetly underneath clothing.
In terms of build quality, it’s held up nicely for a few sessions of use, but I do worry about the longevity of this toy. The first point of breakage is likely to be the glue holding the base to the dong; this will naturally degrade over time. The presence of an electrical wire means there’s also the possibility of water ingress to the internals, rendering the vibrator broken. It’s quite a thin wire too, so tugging on the cable may eventually pull it away from the weak solder joints inside. The air tube looks solid enough, but that’s also likely to be glued inside.
Using the Palm Power Throbbing Dong Inflatable Vibrating Butt Plug
The un-inflated shaft of the Throbbing Dong is rock solid but not too thick, making it really easy to insert for anyone with basic anal experience. You probably aren’t looking to buy an inflatable butt plug as your first ever anal toy, but if you are: this is probably a teeny bit too big for a first toy. You’ll either want something smaller, or softer.
Once inserted, the lack of a tapered neck make this impossible to keep in place without holding or sitting on it. A couple of squeezes worth of expansion won’t be enough to lock it in, but after about 10 pumps, it’s inflated enough to not fall out. Still, I’d suggest pairing this with a plug holder or full chastity belt to keep it in.
In my experience with other inflatable plugs that are a latex skin around a solid core, the latex tends to be extremely thin, like a balloon. So much so that you can’t really feel it inflating, and even fully inflated you can still push it out with ease.
So I’m really happy to report that’s not the case with the Palm Power Throbbing Dong Inflatable Vibrating Butt Plug. The latex is quite thick, and maintains that substantial feeling up to around 25cm circumference. You should be able to see this more clearly in the little movie below:
To be clear, it can inflate larger, but that’s the point at which it starts to feel as thin and flimsy as a balloon.
So although it fails somewhat as a plug, it certainly succeeds as an inflatable.
Not that I expect much from a toy that costs less than £20, but the vibrations from the Palm Power Throbbing Dong Inflatable Vibrating Butt Plug don’t particularly throb. Powered by 2x AA batteries, it more just buzzes along quietly and provides little overall sensation. Particularly with anal toys, you really need deep, rumbly strong vibrations for a toy to be effective enough to make you cum.
Still, its better than nothing. You won’t get off on these vibrations alone, but it’s a little extra something to add to your play.
The suction cup is the weakest aspect of this toy. On the one hand, it does at least provide a very wide base, so there should be no concerns about anything slipping in. But in terms of staying stuck to even a clean pane of glass, forget about it. While it sticks there initially, any attempt to use the toy as intended resulted in it instantly coming unstuck. So that’s disappointing.
Is This The Ultimate Butt Plug?
The Palm Power Throbbing Dong Inflatable Vibrating Butt Plug tries to be a bit of everything. It inflates! It vibrates! It has a suction cup too! And it’s a dildo shape!
It’s a bold choice to try something so unique, but I don’t think it quite succeeds at everything it set out to do.
If you wanted a suction cup dildo, there are better choices out there to suit all budgets, made from fully body-safe materials. Generally, when you look for a butt plug, you aren’t looking for a suction cup base. The idea is to stick it up there and plug your anus, not secure your bum to a flat surface. Although, that could be an interesting bondage predicament: never mind the handcuffs, stick their ass to the wall using only a butt plug. Sadly, the suction on the Palm Power Throbbing Dong Inflatable Vibrating Butt Plug isn’t that great. Even a minor bit of squiggling around pulls it off.
If you wanted a prostate vibrator (which is really the only way you’re going to feel vibrations down there), again: there are much better prostate massagers out there. You’re not buying this for the vibrations.
My quest for the holy grail of inflatable butt plugs is not quite complete then. But the Throbbing Dong is a lot better than some I’ve tried, more expensive ones at that. As long as you don’t have a latex allergy, the Palm Power Throbbing Dong Inflatable Vibrating Butt Plug is fun and does the basic job of being inserted, inflated, and somewhat vibrated. Can’t ask for more from £20 with change, really.
Score: A nicely inflated 8/10.
