Kinx Slix Anal Hybrid Water-Based Lubricant Review
What an amazing round by Cara this month. We really were spoiled for choice and with a number of lubes available to review, I jumped at the chance to have a look at some from a brand that I have to admit, I had never heard of before. Before long, I had narrowed it down to the Kinx product range on offer and thought I would give both the Warming lube and the Anal lube a whirl. More about the Kinx Aqua Slix Warming Water-Based Lubricant in another review, now to crack on with the Kinx Slix Anal Hybrid Water-Based Lubricant.
Having reviewed a number of different lubes recently, I was quite interested in looking at an anal specific lube, as this really does need to be spot on for me to enhance that area of play. There are a number of key things that I look out for; long lasting, not tacky or sticky and easy to apply being of a lot of importance. Plus, I normally I look for quite a thick silicone-based lube. So realistically, this water-based lube was quite a bit out of my comfort zone and I was a little apprehensive that it would do the business.
A quick look at the information I could find online put my mind a little but at rest, as the information said the Kinx Slix Anal Hybrid Water-Based Lubricant would boast the silky properties found in a silicone-based lubricant. So, fingers crossed.
The Kinx Slix Anal Hybrid Water-Based Lubricant itself came in quite a compact and neat little bottle, with a small pop dispensing cap that opens the bottle up. It really doesn’t leave much to the imagination with “ANAL” written in big letters on the front of the bottle. Perhaps not one to leave out on the mantelpiece… however, if you are using the other Kinx range and the bottles are all quite similar in appearance, it does make it easy to get the right one to hand, without having to faff around and look closely.
On the side of the bottle are what I initially could only assume are instructions and ingredients, as it is printed in quite literally, the smallest writing I have ever seen in my life. A quick and very close look did in fact confirm that is what the writing was. A bit annoying, but I am hardly buying this stuff for the prose on the side of the container.
The ingredients listed are: Aqua, Propylene Glycol, Glycerin, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Lactic Acid, PEG-150, PEG-8, Ethylhexylglycerin and Phenoxyethanol. Obviously, it is important to be aware that if you have issues with the use of glycerin then this is not the lube for you. The Kinx Slix Anal Hybrid Water-Based Lubricant is also paraben free, which is a plus. Other than that, I would say that the ingredients listed are fairly standard fodder, with the note that although this is an anal focused lubricant, it does not feature any numbing ingredients.
The side of the bottle provided instructions for not keeping the lubricant beyond 12 months, so no excuses for not getting on with it using this one.
As the lubricant is water-based, it can be used with a wide range of different toys without the fears that can come with mixing certain lower quality material toys with silicone-based lubricants which is fantastic.
The bottle itself was brill, and once opened, the Kinx Slix Anal Hybrid Water-Based Lubricant was easy to get out of the bottle and apply. A small amount does come out as you pop the cap back down, however, I did not find the amount that came out afterwards an inconvenience and found I could just rub it into my hands fairly quickly.
I was surprised when using the lube initially by how runny it was. As I said, I would normally select quite a thick silicone lube for anal play and this is a very different product to what I am used to. However, I have to say that I was really pleasantly surprised.
The lubricant did have an amount of run to it, but it was still fairly viscous in comparison to, say, a massage oil material. The Kinx Slix Anal Hybrid Water-Based Lubricant spread really really well and it was instantly very slick feeling. I would have thought at this initial point in time that the lubricant was a silicone-based lube, it was that soft and smooth to the touch. There was no tackiness or grab to it at all and it really did a fantastic job of getting things sliding very quickly.
It is also worth noting that the Kinx Slix Anal Hybrid Water-Based Lubricant had no taste or smell to it that I could detect and therefore was quite neutral in its use, not in any way getting in the way of things. These are all really positive I was thinking, feels great, not sticky or tacky, really smooth and soft to the touch, does not smell or taste. Only the ‘how long it lasts’ test and this stuff is a winner.
Unfortunately, this is where I felt a little bit let down with this lube. Whilst its longevity to the slide was not awful, it did need reapplying more often than I would have liked. It just simply soaked into the skin a little too quickly for me and I was left without that feeling of slippy-ness all too quickly. On the plus side though, it really did leave the skin feeling very soft and smooth, so that was a win, rather than the feeling of, this stuff is sticky, got to wash it off as quickly as I can.
Washing up afterwards really is a doddle though. As it is water based, it can just be removed with a quick whizz over with soap and hot water and it didn’t leave any sign of residue or nasty feeling. If anything, I would say it had a pleasant moisturising feel to it.
So, in summary, there were a lot of positives with this Kinx Slix Anal Hybrid Water-Based Lubricant and your opinion really needs to fall into which imperfection you can put up with. If feel and softness, and water-based are your go to choices and you can put up with reapplying fairly often, then this stuff is brilliant. If you would rather have something that just lasts a little bit longer in use, then I would give it a try and see, but perhaps have one eye expecting to look elsewhere.
