Sex Toy Advice

Sex toy shopping can be exciting, exhilarating, fantasy-inducing… and confusing. There are just so many sex toys available these days, with improvements added and different styles being created all the time. That’s why I’ve written these sex toy advice articles here at the Cara Sutra sex blog.

First of all, do you really need sex toys? Adult products are more of a desirable accessory than a need, and they’re most definitely not a replacement for sex. Nobody should feel ashamed about their sex toy use, or threatened because their partner enjoys using them. Hell, there are even plenty of couples sex toys available which heighten the pleasure levels for both partners during intimacy. So even though toys might not be a need or pre-requisite for having sexy fun, they’re an incredibly enjoyable bonus feature. Think of them like ticking the ‘added fun’ box on your sexual take-out order.

Next, consider what type of sex toy would be best for you. There are many different types: vibrating, static, large, small, flexible, rigid, for vaginal, clitoral, anal and erogenous zone stimulation. Then there is the material it’s made of to consider. Some materials are full body-safe for internal and external use, others are toxic and could cause allergic reactions, irritation or worse. What does porous and non-porous mean? What are phthalates? Does any of this really matter when considering which sex toy to buy and try?

Find out all of the above and more in my sex toy advice articles here on the blog.

List of Shame: The 10 sex toys which need forcing into retirement

I know you all wonder about the dark side of my sex toy collection and for once I don't mean bondage restraints. The ones that sadly, didn't get (chucked) away. The toys which have brought me to tears of frustration. The toys which have made me grip the sheets harder as I bite back the venom which threatens to tumble forth as I search for the right button. The toys which have made me scream - in agony.

Alternative uses for a blow up sex doll?

3 Sickie stand in at the office. If you are technical in the slightest I am sure you could fashion some kind of remotely controlled inflation/deflation device. 4 Travel by public transport and sick of people taking the seat right next to you when there's plenty of others? Never again want to be within intimate distance of the great unwashed? No problem. Take your inflatable friend with you and you have a constant public transport companion who reeks with the delicate, arousing and attractive scent of, erm, vinyl.

How to clean your sex toys properly

Before plunging your sex toy into a sink of water or taking it in the shower with you for a rinse, check the instructions or packet to see if it’s completely waterproof. Many sex toys are not, and they will state water resistant only and to wipe the surface carefully. If the manufacturers have been a bit lax in the description department and there’s no mention of waterproof-ness, you should assume it’s not a waterproof sex toy. Believe me, if it’s waterproof, they’ll have added this on as a sales bonus point.

Why Do Sex Shops Still Sell Gender Categorised Sex Toys?

By Cara Sutra: The majority of online sex shops still sell gender categorised sex toys. In an admittedly slow to change world where education about the existence of people outside of the gender binary is on the increase, should sex shops really still sell sex toys in this way?

Ann Summers Moregasm Plus Sex Toys Provide More Power & More Pleasure

Ann Summers is, of course, the home of the Rampant Rabbit, but I'd had such bad experiences with rabbit vibrators that I avoided them. Then, I gave the original Ann Summers Moregasm vibrators a try - and fell in love. Now, a few years later, I've been lucky enough to sample the brand new and upgraded range – the Ann Summers Moregasm Plus sex toys collection.

Women-Specific Lubricants: Necessary Or Just Another Marketing Ploy?

By Cara Sutra: Do women-specific lubricants really matter? When you first realise that what your sex life needs is a little more glide, you will doubtless turn to sex lubricants to transform that dry chafe into sexy friction. It’s only when you start shopping for lubricants (at a well stocked online sex shop as Lubezilla) that you begin to realise that this task isn’t as simple as you’d first imagined.

Big Guide To Lesbian Sex Toys: What Are The Best Sex Toys For Lesbians?

Our heteronormative, phallocentric society loves to promote the myth that sex begins and ends with penis-in-vagina. That the only true definition of sex is thrusting a penis into a vagina which then ejaculates at some point, which signals the End Of The Sex. I'm here to tell you that such a view is wrong on so many levels.

Unusual Romantic Gifts For Your Partner – Or Yourself!

When it comes to buying romantic gifts for your partner, you might find yourself treading those same, well-worn internet shopping paths of flowers, chocolate, and their preferred form of bubbles. Although a surprise gift containing any of these is always pleasant, sometimes it doesn't really convey the right level of romance –or raunchiness- as a gift to your lover. Why not shop for a memorable present which will truly impress -with unusual romantic gifts instead of the old predictables?

Do vibrating clit clamps exist & where can I buy one?

I was wondering if there is such a thing as vibrating clit clamps? I want to turn her into a quivering, gasping mess. I've used rabbits but they seem to lack something, but I know her clit doesn't get enough from them.

Is A Non-Porous Real-Feel Sex Toy Material Too Much To Ask?

By Cara Sutra: I'm not talking about the bed, although the subject of this post could also be a breeding ground. Real feel penetrable sex toys. Is it out of the question entirely for adult product manufacturers to make a non-porous real-feel sex toy?

Sex Toys Don’t Replace Sex: From Masturbation To No String Sex

By Cara Sutra: When you feel the urge for physical satisfaction, it's easy to reach for your vibrator or Fleshlight and stimulate yourself to the quick climax your body needs. Sex toys don't replace sex, though. People usually yearn for something more than self love, which is why skin to skin bonding starts on day one and carries on into the warmth and tenderness of hugs and cuddles.

And They Call It Bunny Love

My body surrendered to the need and I luxuriated in the sinful feeling of a lazy self-fuck, my pussy slowly swallowing every part of the gently widening rabbit shaft. My labia, slick with cunt drool and lube, snug to the sides of this invader and the feel of them submitted to allow entry. A set of shivers came over me as I slowly slid the rabbit home.

How Your Adult Business Should Respond To Unhappy Customers

By Cara Sutra: I doubt there’s any business out there that has never experienced unhappy customers at one point or another. As genuine and admirable as your company values may be, unhappy customers are part and parcel of being in business.

A Beginner’s Guide to Electrosex & Electro Sex Toys

You will need a main unit (known as the stimulator) to deliver the electric current. These are usually the basis of a starter kit, such as the ElectraStim Flick EM60-E Electro Stimulation Pack. This stimulator offers 24 intensity settings so you can increase the power in line with your desires. There is also the option to receive or deliver to a partner rhythmic stimulation in line with the movement of your hand. The ElectraStim Flick costs just £99 and comes with full instructions and electro pads so that you can get started right away. The ElectraStim SensaVox EM140 High Spec Stimulator (£299) is for those looking for a more advanced kit and experience. Not only are there an amazing 99 intensity levels, there’s also 9 pre-programmed patterns to enjoy. You can use SensaVox to create sophisticated stimulation patterns using either the included microphone or by feeding audio directly into the stimulator. The soundwaves are translated into a stimulation beat that rises and falls in sympathy with the audio, teasing and tantalising you with sensations that can be modified to match your desires.

Confessions of a Sex Toy Tester: Revealing Sex Toys Secrets

By Cara Sutra: Earlier this year I was asked some questions by a national glossy about my life as a sex toy tester. Since my personal story of testing sex toys went viral a couple of years ago, it seems the press can’t learn enough about this fascinating job (as well as obsessing over how much money one could make from it). As only a small amount of what I had to say in response to the initial questions made it to the final printed piece, I’ve decided to share my other answers with you here.

Futuristic Sex Tech: Is Using Sex Robots Ethical?

Whenever I hear about sex robots, I immediately conjure an image of the intensely charming Jude Law from the compelling and philosophical Spielberg movie, A.I. Artificial Intelligence. Beyond that likeable yet disturbing character, the phrase sex robot is an oxymoron to me. Sex is warm, wet, slippery and can be deeply emotional... whereas 'robotics' makes me think of computers; inanimate lumps of rigid cold metal and confusing tangles of wires.
