Dr. J: Erotic Author Spotlight Series
Thank you Cara Sutra, sex blogger extraordinaire, for sharing my story. My pen name is Dr. J., and yes, I am a doctor. Some folks would say that I have “merely a Ph.D.” and I’m good with that. My path to writing erotica this year is intrinsically entwined with my professional career and my Ph.D. process.
For my first job in sexuality, I packed condoms for Adam and Eve. I saw in real time how research and teaching could help people feel good about their sexual selves. That spurred me on to finish my undergraduate degree in health education specialising in sexuality.
After my undergraduate degree, I worked for a women’s reproductive health centre while completing my master’s degree. I was trained at the centre to view sexuality from a holistic perspective. To this day, I incorporate that idea in all my sexuality efforts. Through my work there, I acquired my AASECT certifications as a sex educator and sex therapist, practising in both areas. Knowing I wanted to continue expanding my knowledge, I sought out a Ph.D. in Marriage & Family Therapy.
I tailored all three of my degrees to focus on human sexuality. During and after my doctoral program, I taught human sexuality courses, trained mental health and medical professionals in sexuality and maintained my solo sex therapy practice. As I retired from college teaching, my students invited me to find a new way to do it. Erotic writing as full-time job emerged.
As a therapist, I see how the mind and body work together to create our sexual experiences. Fantasy and eroticism are as individual as our fingerprints. There are so many things that excite our mind and merge with our body for pleasure. Writing erotica allows me to walk across the sexuality continuum and explore. I stay open to creative ideas that spark in my world and then blow life into them by considering the relationships and how sexuality might manifest. Sometimes people may not feel very creative, but they might pick up a book and discover words that excite and light up their sexual desires. I’m teaching in a new way, and one that is just as relevant to the lives of individuals.
I began erotic writing in February 2016 for weekly Memes: Masturbation Monday, Wicked Wednesday, and Flash Friday and I post these stories on my website blog. In July, eXcessica Publishing accepted me as an author.
My first short story is entitled Forever Tattooed. It is available from Amazon.
Tattooed Forever owner, Gabe Stewart, revisits his past when the international photographer, Dana Parker enters his shop, fresh off a plane from Thailand. Dana had kept a secret for two years and is now ready to share it with Gabe. She wonders if he can give her what she desperately wants and if he would want to. Much to Dana’s surprise, Gabe reveals a secret of his own. With these disclosures in the open, fireworks ignite between them.
Excerpt from Forever Tattooed:
The door opened, and she walked in. She was not your typical person looking for a tat. I mean, she could sport a tattoo, but she wasn’t our clientele. Standing in the middle of girl mayhem, this woman stole the show. Yeah, she looked good with her long, wavy hair and a curvy body, but there was more. She appeared like an exotic flower placed in a bouquet of ragged wildflowers. She radiated determination. Everyone else dropped away from my sight. Moving over to the counter, she displayed confidence, grace, and elegance.
“I got this, Gabe.” Abraham started toward her. His movement broke my trance, and I grabbed his arm.
“No, I do.” Abraham turned and saw the resolve in my eyes. His expression told me he questioned my motives, again, but he nodded and stepped aside.
She opened the sample book on the counter and looked over our products. By the time I reached her side, she had the pages open to my pain. My tattoo design stared back at me. Lorelei. I smelled her fragrance, so familiar. The woman touched the lips that marked the gateway to arousal on Lorelei’s body. We each had inked the same place. It was ours. As she continued caressing the tattoo in the picture, I flashed back to Lorelei laughing and smiling after our romp for the ages. Miss exotic flower looked up and searched my face. Fixated on the picture I swallowed hard, as I attempted to control the emotion surging in me. Glancing back at the tat book, she smiled. I kicked my brain back in gear.
“Looking to get inked today?”
As she turned and faced me, I gazed into a set of crystal-blue eyes that shimmered like deep water off an island pier. Vibrant and crisp, they made me hot and unsettled. Why had Lorelei’s scent become stronger? Was it the same perfume?
You can find my story Topping You in the Women on Top Anthology. It is a Perma-free book on Amazon.
Can another woman top Dane Lewis like Anikka? After losing her, he steps back into a sexuality world and enlists the service of Nicole Henning to find out. Nicole creates an unusual sexual event to move him forward? Does it do the job?
