I’m giving a warm welcome to PImentoMori Reviews in the sex blogger spotlight this week. An easily navigated, bright and colourful blog, PimentoMori is home to many honest and thorough sex toy reviews – so if you’re looking for some opinions on vibrators and dildos from a real person, check her out!
First though, read more about PimentoMori Reviews in the feature below. Thanks for being a part of the spotlight series, PimentoMori.
My name is Caroline. I’m 23 years old. A veterinary technology student by day and janitor by night. PimentoMori Reviews is the result of my deep love of sex toys. I think they are amazing, and I want to share that joy with everyone. I hope that my reviews help people to find the perfect toy for themselves, and to make the world a little bit more sex-positive!
What’s your blog name/online handle and how did you come up with the idea?
It wasn’t so much an idea as it was a lack of any better ideas. PimentoMori is a username I’d used a few times before – a reference to the phrase “memento mori” and to pimento cheese spread, which is one of my favorite foods. I toyed around with a few other names, but kept PimentoMori because it felt the most like me.
So yes, the name of my sex toy review blog is actually an obscure cheese pun.
I feel like that’s a pretty good description of who I am as a person.
Which country do you live in?
I live in the US! Specifically in Ohio.
Approximately how long have you been sex blogging?
Since November of last year, so a little over six months! Up until recently, I was working and going to school full time, so I couldn’t devote as much time to it as I wanted. But I have a year off from school now, and I plan to spend it writing about dildos.
Why did you start a sex blog or reviewing sex toys?
Well, my boundless enthusiasm for sex toys was too great to be contained in just my personal life. I needed people to talk to about how great my favorite things were, and I wanted to share with everyone just how amazing and liberating self-pleasure can be!
I feel like in some ways it was also I kind of rebellion against the culture I grew up in. Like so many Americans, the sex education I received in high school tried to tell me that sex was shameful and dangerous, and that, as someone who identifies as female, it was up to me to protect my “purity”. I wanted to fight that. I hope that by adding my voice to the chorus of sex positivity, I can help to undo some of the damage abstinence-only sex ed has done, if only in my own little corner of the internet.
What’s your favourite thing about blogging?
Without a doubt, my favorite part of being a sex toy reviewer is the amazing community I get to be a part of. I’ve gotten to know so many amazing people. They make me laugh, make me feel better when I get frustrated, and help me when I can’t figure out how the hell to get banner ads up. Seriously, I feel like I’ve found my people.
Do you use social media? If so, where can we find you?
Yes I do! You can follow me on Twitter @pimentoreviews.
Do your friends know you’re a sex blogger?
Well, at first I was on the fence about whether or not I was going to tell people. And then one night I got drunk on moscato at a party and started waxing poetic about dual density silicone.
So yeah, people know now. The really cool part is that now that they do, they come to me for sex toy advice! It warms my heart.
Will you still be blogging in 5 years’ time?
I hope so! I can’t imagine not having this be a part of my life now. And imagine all the wonderful new toys there’ll be in 5 years!
Tell us about three other bloggers you admire, and why.
God lord, it was so hard to limit this to just three.
Hey Epiphora: First and foremost, for alerting me that sex toy bloggers were even a thing. I’ll never forget the fateful night I stumbled across her blog and stayed up reading it until dawn. I love the way her distinct voice comes through so clearly in her reviews. Her Beginner’s Guide to Sex Toy Reviewing and Blogging was a huge help when I was getting started. Also, she was my very first Twitter follower ever, a fact I will always be proud of because I’m A Big Nerd.
Emmeline Peaches Reviews: I have a tremendous amount of respect for the sheer volume of reviews Emmeline puts out alone-her clear dedication is amazing. But what’s even more impressive is how thorough they each are. If you read one of her reviews, you will learn everything you could ever have possibly wanted to know about the product. Plus, she does all of her own artwork. She’s just so awesome.
Ninja Sexology: Lunabelle earned a special place in my heart just for her hilarious pictures in her review of the Hole Punch Toys Fluke. She’s a proud girth enthusiast, and has a lot of great posts about large toys that, as a budding size queen, I’ve really enjoyed. Her Size Queen Manifesto, in particular, is a must read for anyone who’s felt self-conscious because of a preference for large and/or fantasy toys. I also adore her New Artist Spotlight feature, which highlights the wonderful things being done by indie sex toy makers.
If you review sex toys, what are the top three toys you wish you could get your hands on next?
This question might have been even harder!
The Swan Wand – With every review I read of the Swan Wand, I want it even more. A rechargeable, powerful vibrator with TWO independently controllable motors? YES. Please give it to me.
Fun Factory Bouncer – The idea behind this dildo is one so brilliantly simple that it makes you wonder how it’s never been done before. It’s really unique, and it just seems like it would be so fun!
The Doxy – My very first review was of the Hitachi, which remains one of my favorite sex toys. It will always hold a special place in my heart. But the Doxy’s promise of 30% more power, as well the ten (!) different speeds have been calling my name for awhile now.
