I am Missy May, I got into blogging to express my sexuality, my desires, my adventures, and to share my knowledge with the world. I want to help educate the public about toxic toys, why they should use lube, and other topics that the average sex-haver may not know.
Much to my surprise having a sex blog has helped me and educated me, more than I could ever hope to help and educate others. It has went from a mission of telling people about sex and my thoughts to finding myself. I realize how corny that sounds, but having a blog where I am free to be the sexual creature I am has helped me to become the person I am today. And I know that I am still growing and will continue to grow with the help of my blog, the community, and of course my lovely husband.
What’s your blog name/online handle and how did you come up with the idea?
I actually go by two handles. I started out with His Lil’ Missy, because my husband and I had come up with the name “Missy” for my role playing bedroom persona. From there, I started blogging and His Lil’ Missy was too long, strange to say in conversation, and not really a name. I needed a name, since I am an anonymous blogger. I thought of a few different names to go along with Missy and finally came up with Missy May. My husband says he doesn’t like it because “May” sounds like an older persons name, but I love it! I think it sounds catchy, and for me it is really fun to say.
Which country do you live in?
I live in the U.S.A.
Approximately how long have you been sex blogging?
I’ve been sex blogging for only a few months. But I have been writing reviews and articles for 2, almost 3, years now.
Why did you start a sex blog or reviewing sex toys?
I started reviewing sex toys because I know that at one point in my life I was very uneducated about sex toys and loved reading something from a “real person” about how the toy functioned, what it was made of, and specifically what they liked and didn’t like about it. I started a sex blog because the community I was part of kind of fell apart and it left a hole in me. I missed the community and upon seeking out what happened I came across a post exposing the horrible company behind my beloved community and a way to connect with those who had left!
What’s your favourite thing about blogging?
I love interacting. It’s not often that some one comments on one of my posts, but it really means a lot to me. And I love responding and interacting when some one does take the time to comment. I also love how I am always learning. I am always researching, asking questions, reading, and more. Not only am I learning about the world of sex, sex positive stuff, rape culture, toy materials, etc, I am also learning coding and how to handle WordPress issues, and my favorite part is digging deeper and learning to be part of my niche’s community.
Do you use social media? If so, where can we find you?
Do your friends know you’re a sex blogger?
I do have a few friends who know, and I am thinking about “coming out,” for lack of a better way to put it. My friends aren’t really into it, they try to support me, but I can tell they couldn’t care less. My husband on the other hand loves it, and my mom (yes, my mom knows!) loves to hear about my mishaps and such.
Have you ever done anything specifically so you can blog about it afterwards?
Yes. Kind of. I’ve been curious about trying anal, but being able to share my experience with others who don’t think it’s nasty really helped to push me to try it. And I did. And I love it! My friends and family think it’s gross, taboo, nasty, only for “those” kind of people, etc.
Do you take part in any blog memes? If so, which ones?
I have a list of the one’s that I would love to participate in on my blog, but I don’t participate as often as I would like. I have done a couple of the TMI Tuesday posts and one Frisky Friday post.
Share with us a funny or interesting experience that’s happened to you in the course of your blogging.
Just the other day I was having issues trying to get my post input thingy to change from HTML view to visual, and I had quite a few people trying to help me fix it. I had done a lot of things to try to fix it to no avail. Finally one of my Twitter friends said “a long shot.. but, go to Users>>Your profile and make sure disable visual editor is not checked.” It was checked. Earlier that week I had went through my settings and I guess I thought that was something else. It took at least an hour to figure out that my ditsy self had checked a box.
Will you still be blogging in 5 years time?
I hope so. I would love to be one of those bloggers who can put in her/his about me “I’ve been blogging for 6 years and…” I read that and I think “Wow, you got some dedication!” Also, when you have been blogging for that long you have some serious writing skills! Before I even think about that though, I need to figure out this posting regularly and on time thing.
If not already a professional blog: would you say you’re looking to earn a living from blogging eventually, or will it remain a hobby?
I would like to supplement my income through blogging, but I don’t think I could make a living from it. I have too many other hobbies and don’t have that kind of time to dedicate to blogging.
Tell us about three other bloggers you admire, and why.
I love Hey Epiphora – her writing style, her confidence, just everything about her is admirable!
Dangerous Lilly – she is so organized and her site is just so pretty. Sometimes I get caught up looking at it and forget why I came to her blog in the first place. Also, her reviews are great!
And finally, BeckandHerKinks. It’s not so much as Becks writing that makes me admire her, but she is a great blogger, but her generosity, her friendly attitude, and everything about her. I am so happy that I found such a great friend in the beginning of my blogging career.
If you review sex toys, what are the top three toys you wish you could get your hands on next?
LELO Ella, NobEssence Romp, and Aneros Evi Kegel Stimulator.
Who is your favourite adult shopping company, and why?
I don’t have one at the moment because I haven’t had the funds to shop in so long. I am currently shopping for a shopping company. From the way they present themselves online and on social media though, I think I’m going to fall in love with SmittenKitten and SheVibe.
Do you prefer blogging fictional erotica, real life sex anecdotes or factual based content such as reviews and advice guides?
I love writing about my sex life. Sharing my adventures is a lot of fun. And since I have horrible memory problems it’s great to revisit those fleeting memories.
