Sex Blogger Q&A
What’s your blog name/online handle and how did you come up with the idea?
www.ladycheeky.com and www.smutforsmarties.com (SEE: Why did you start a sex blog or reviewing sex toys)
Which country do you live in?
Approximately how long have you been sex blogging?
Almost 5 years
Why did you start a sex blog or reviewing sex toys?
My Lady Cheeky blog came first. It was a blog of erotic photography to share with my lover in a different state. We shared positions, desires and locations we wanted to try with each other. Then, I started getting followers … and then more followers … then fan letters, sex advice questions, submissions, you name it. I really enjoyed interacting with people who were as attracted to my curated photos as I was as well as people who yearned to express their sexuality without judgement. I started www.SmutForSmarties.com as a way to publish my erotic non-fiction detailing the escapades of me and my lover. It’s now generated into my “home page” erotica plus sex education, sex tips, socially conscious and sex-positive editorial, product reviews and a body-positive, shame free site to get information about all things sex.
What’s your favourite thing about blogging?
I think for me, it’s expressing myself while informing others. I write what I want to, when I want to, about what’s important to me. Sometimes it’s about my sexual journey or sex life and sometimes it’s sex education or sex tips. It’s a mixed bag and I kind of love that.
Do your friends know you’re a sex blogger?
Yes and they all LOVE it! Apparently, I’m a great conversation starter at parties. LOL
Have you ever done anything specifically so you can blog about it afterwards?
Not that I can recall.
Share with us a funny or interesting experience that’s happened to you in the course of your blogging.
Will you still be blogging in 5 years time?
If I’m still enjoying it and find it challenging, I don’t see why not.
If not already a professional blog: would you say you’re looking to earn a living from blogging eventually, or will it remain a hobby?
I would love to earn money from my blog, but my main focus is workshops, speaking and writing about sex. In a perfect world, I would like to remain blogging and have a career similar to Tristan Taormino. She’s my sex-ed teacher, writer, speaker, artist hero.
Tell us about three other bloggers you admire, and why.
The Redhead Bedhead / JoEllen Notte – www.redheadbedhead.com: She’s a damn fine writer, a great sex educator with a funny and creative brain who knows her way around a sex shop. I admire her drive and her class as well as her vast knowledge of sex and sex toys.
I also adore Kate McCombs, MPH who started Sex Geekdom (www.sexgeekdom.com) which is a global community for people who want to have geeky conversations about sex. I think there are about 10 city groups all over the world and it all began with Kate.
She blogs on that site and on www.MySexProfessor.com, about sex, sexual health and plain old sex geekery.
I love her entrepreneurial spirit, her creative mind and her unique knowledge of the sex lives of Australian indigenous animals.
If you review sex toys, what are the top three toys you wish you could get your hands on next?
That’s a good question … hmmm …. I would love to try the Je Joue Sasi as I hear it simulates cunnilingus well, I’m addicted to anything Liberator and would like to try the Decor Arch Wedge. This shape of a Liberator wedge looks compact enough to not be obtrusive and is supposed to lend itself to oral sex more than the other wedges. Notice a theme? 🙂 I’d also love to experiment with a Sybian for obvious reasons (hee hee).
Who is your favourite adult shopping company, and why?
My local shop is The Pleasure Chest Los Angeles. I love that place so much that sometimes I just want to go and hang out. Everyone is well-educated on not just what they carry but about safer sex and sex education in general. Educating their employees is very important to them and apparently they are great to work for. Their prices are competitive, they host free sex workshops once a week and have a HUGE selection. What more can you ask for?
Do you prefer blogging fictional erotica, real life sex anecdotes or factual based content such as reviews and advice guides?
I will post anything I think is good. But, when I blog my own erotica, it’s always true.
