Dave Gorman Shock at Ann Summers’ Jimmyjane Vibrator

Funny story. I was watching Dave Gorman last night as the end of day entertainment, on Dave, when suddenly the stand up comic’s act turned a little familiar. As in, adult industry familiar!

I was torn between surprise and delight when Dave Gorman mentioned Ann Summers, stating that they have ‘overpriced vibrators’. Now, I’m not here to say whether his opinion is correct or not, obviously. The vibrator he was directing attention to in his slide show was the Jimmyjane FORM 6.

I don’t have one of these, but apparently Ann Summers sell them for £140, which does seem a bit steep (although I notice it’s coincidentally on sale at the moment). It must seem even more expensive to the mainstream, sex toy buying public.

Without adult industry knowledge of how products can be priced and different across the board, over £100 for a vibrator does seem costly compared to the high street standard of a £20 jelly rabbit vibrator.

Dave Gorman didn’t stop there.

Pointing out that the way to add the product to your basket was indicated by a button labelled ‘Add to Bag‘, he hilariously noted that this may not be the best way to phrase things, for a sexual products site. Also, there are social sharing buttons where you can share your vibrator purchase with your Facebook, Twitter, G+ etc audience. “Who would want to post that on their Facebook wall?!”

Well, Dave Gorman, I do happen to know of a few people.

He seemed amazed that there was the option to ‘review your purchase’, expressing his signature surprise that anyone would think to review a sex toy or vibrator after purchase, never mind spend over £100 in the first place AND THEN post their purchase to social networks.

To directly quite:

Ann Summers has a website. Nothing wrong with that.

As you’d imagine, you can buy all sorts of adult toys on there. Nothing wrong with that either.

Again, you can also leave a review of your purchases. OK, that is a bit weird.

And at the click of a button, you can share your review via Facebook or Twitter. That’s more than a bit weird. In fact, everything is wrong with that.

Who in their right mind wants to share the purchase of a Rampant Rabbit with all their Facebook friends?

I don’t know anyone who’d review a vibrator for a sex toys website. Do you? 😉
