The Dodil Review: Introducing The Dodil Mouldable Dildo

The adult industry definitely loves describing its products as innovative, but I feel we’re inching towards a time where I might not immediately dismiss this as run-of-the-mill marketing spiel. The Dodil, the mouldable, shapeable dildo, is one of the few products which lives up to the hype.

Here’s a sex toy which is not only genuinely innovative, it actually works (which is not always a given) -and it’s great fun too.

Thanks to The Dodil team for sending me my very own Dodil shapeable dildo to discover, test out and get creative with, so I can share my thoughts and experiences in this review.

Packaging

The Dodil was sent safely packaged, and my curiosity about the product was piqued from the first glint of green through the layers of bubble-wrap filling the outer box.

I must confess that when I know I’m going to be reviewing a product, I try not to read other people’s thoughts about it by way of other blog reviews and media. I don’t want to risk their experiences and feedback imprinting on my mind and tinting my own review. I like to come at it fresh, as it were. So, although I’d heard lots of online noise about The Dodil, I didn’t really know all that much about the product.

The Dodil surprised me as it came in a metal canister which was green on the outside, with the logo, and silver on the inner. There was a screw top lid which didn’t quite screw on properly, and inside was The Dodil dildo which felt a bit odd, a black wire which seemed to be a spare part included by accident, and an instruction leaflet.

First Impressions

I thought The Dodil dildo felt really weird, and I was confused as to why the screw top lid of the canister didn’t quite screw on properly. A problem right from the off, before I even know how to use the flipping thing! I thought.

A metal canister seemed a weird choice of storage for a silicone feeling dildo in any case – it rattled about and wasn’t right as a storage container at all.

Then I read the instructions.

Oh.

The Dodil Review - The Dodil Mouldable Shapeable Dildo

The Dodil is a mouldable, shapeable dildo! How fun. The name made sense, then; a ‘reshaped’ spelling of dildo. It reminded me of plasticine, Play-Doh, or the Lush FUN bars that you can mould in the bath then use as soap. What a clever idea! The canister is actually used to help soften the shape The Dodil dildo as you choose. So is the included wire.

How You Shape It

To shape The Dodil, you place it in the canister and pour boiling water in with it. Put the lid on loosely (aha! This is why it doesn’t screw on tightly) and leave for up to half an hour.

You can then remove The Dodil and shape til your heart and vagina (and possibly even your butt) are content.

The included wire is a help because you can wrap it round the softened The Dodil dildo to create lumps and bumps, so you end up with a contoured dildo instead simply a smooth (but maybe curved, if you so choose) one.

Shaping The Dodil

I found it quite difficult to remove The Dodil from the canister after the half hour because it was too warm for comfort. I used some cooking tongs, which I know could pose a risk of damaging The Dodil material but I couldn’t think of how else to remove it without burning my fingers.

It worked out ok and I was able to pop The Dodil on to a safe surface (clean marble chopping board) where it cooled enough to touch and mould.

For my first shape I went a little extreme. I was so excited to be able to shape and mould a dildo that I formed some sort of G-spot… thing. It turned out to be quite difficult to insert but once it’s there – wow. Well, for me, anyway.

I did cheat a bit to get this extreme bend – as well as using the included wire for the contours, I used a couple of elastic bands to hold the two ends bend inwards. Mostly as I couldn’t be bothered to hold it the whole time it was cooling down.

The shape needs to cool down before it ‘sets’ in your chosen shape. You can speed this process slightly by running it under a cool tap for 10 seconds at a time. Again, I cheated a bit and popped mine in the fridge after the initial strong heat had worn off. This isn’t mentioned or recommended on the included instruction sheet, but my Dodil doesn’t seem to have suffered because of it.

For my next shape I decided to go less extreme and just designed a lovely contoured dildo. I am very much a bumps ‘n contours fan when it comes to insertables; texture is where it’s at for me. I cheated yet again here and used elastic bands rather than the wire, which I found slipped through my fingers and wouldn’t stay in place. The bands were easier to use and stayed where I wanted them to stay while the shape set.

Undoing My Shape, To Re-Shape

The Dodil Review - The Dodil Mouldable Shapeable Dildo

In order to reshape The Dodil you need to heat it up again, in the same way that you initially heat it to make it flexible rather than rigid. You can heat it in the canister of boiling water for just a small amount of time, in order to adjust an area, or you can leave it in for the (up to) 30 minutes and it will ping back to straight. Easy!

Using The Dodil

Because The Dodil is covered with body safe silicone material, I had no qualms about using it internally. There is an important mention on the instructions that it’s not advisable to use The Dodil anally unless you have created an angle of at least 90 degrees.

Dildos aren’t my favourite type of sex toy. If I’m going to use a sex toy then I prefer it to be a vibrating sort, and then made for clitoral stimulation. However, because I had so much fun creating different shapes with The Dodil, and because those shapes are then tailored to my preferences, I really like it. If I want an extreme angle, I can have one. If I want it smooth one day and ridiculously bumpy the next, I can have it.

I don’t get off from using The Dodil by itself – in that way it’s no different to any other dildo. I need clitoral stimulation in order to orgasm. But as a penetrative sex toy it’s pleasurable even if it’s not orgasmic, and when used in combination with a sex toy which does give me an orgasm – it’s brilliant. The fact that I’m using a shape which I’ve invented and created myself is the icing on the cake.

Clean Up & Storage

After & between uses I clean my The Dodil with warm soapy water and once dry store it in the canister. I don’t put the lid on tightly, I just leave it loose. If The Dodil is a little stretched, it can be a bit of a tight fit, in any case. You could also pop it into your usual sex toy storage solution, whether in a fabric storage bag in a drawer or container of your choice in the toy box or under the bed.

Updated Version

The Dodil Review - The Dodil Mouldable Shapeable Dildo

After writing this review, The Dodil team got in touch to let me know they’ve released an updated version.

Here’s some photos of the new one – it has a different coloured wire, and more in-depth instructions.  They address the issue of The Dodil being a little too hot to pick up right away after the 30 minutes too.

You can also design a not-so-extremely contoured but-still-angled dildo from your The Dodil, if that’s more your thing:

I rather love the dolphin-nose style of this one. Both visually and physically. It’s brilliant for g-spotting.

Where To Buy

If you’d like to own your own The Dodil, you can buy yours from thedodil.com for €79. Worldwide shipping costs €9.90.

Please Note

The Dodil Review - The Dodil Mouldable Shapeable Dildo

The Dodil team only recommend that you use the included wire to shape The Dodil dildo, and the use of cooking tongs and the fridge aren’t part of the official usage instructions. That was just me being a bit naughty and cheating. Please follow The Dodil’s advice and instructions when shaping and using The Dodil because I wouldn’t want you to damage your toy.

Thanks so much to The Dodil team for sending me not one but two The Dodil Mouldable Shapeable Dildos to play with and review! They’re so much fun, I can’t wait to see what other products you might release next.
