Sheets of San Francisco Black Fitted Fun Sheet Plus Review (King Size)

By Cara Sutra

My review of the Sheets of San Francisco Black Fitted Fun Sheet Plus: I’d been exchanging tweets with the Sheets of San Francisco crew for a while before finally meeting them in person at the ETO Show earlier this year. Although they didn’t have a stand at the show, they had brought samples of their sheets with them and I enjoyed having a bit of a feel-up. Of the sheets, obviously. First impressions were good, they felt durable and well made – but the proof would, of course, be in the sploshing. Fluid proof sheets? 100% water and liquid proof? We’ll see.

After some work had been completed on the Sheets of San Francisco website, making it ready for visitors and customers, it was much easier to tell the different types of sheets apart. There are Plus Sheets and Printed Sheets. You can get Plus Sheets in either flat or fitted, but the Printed Sheets are flat only.

The second time I met the Sheets of San Francisco team was at Sexhibition in Manchester. Their stand was gorgeous, with a beautiful throne as centrepiece. Sheets of SF also generously donated a couple of sheets to the smut raffle too, but I still didn’t have any of my own. Happily they offered me the chance to review them and I went home and set about the arduous task of choosing which sheet I’d like the most from their collection.

I loved the black straps pattern but I tend to use fitted sheets as the bottom sheet on our bed. With cotton or poly blend sheets, being fitted helps keep them in place during sex and sleep. Hate all that tucking in every day, and hospital folds? Can’t even. Sheets of San Francisco came to the rescue and sent me one of each – a Sheets of San Francisco Black Fitted Fun Sheet Plus, and a Sheets of San Francisco Black Straps Printed Flat Fun Sheet. I have a king size bed and Sheets of San Francisco cater to this size as well as double or super king.

The sheets came in packaging similar to usual bedsheets, with transparent durable plastic, inside which the sheets had been neatly folded for presentation with a piece of cardboard inside to help hold the shape of the sheet in the box. There’s some printed glossy paper which has the details about the sheet – company brand and logo, size, instructions and materials.

The Sheets of San Francisco Black Fitted Fun Sheet Plus is a ‘completely fluidproof and waterproof’ layer made with 60% polyester and 40% polyurethane. The underside feels like fabric but the top layer looks and feels like a matte pvc. Smoother, much more velvety than PVC – if something cool and waterproof could ever be described as velvety – almost like rubber, and with a more luxurious look, feel and manufacture than any PVC sheet I’ve ever seen.

What we liked

The Sheets of San Francisco Black Fitted Fun Sheet Plus was presented well in the box, and was easy to remove and put on the bed. It fit well – some bedsheets are a little tight on the material – and not only that, the fitted areas on the mattress corners actually went to the base of the mattress. It wasn’t a ‘just about fit’ it was a ‘fit really damn well’. Good start.

Once on the bed the sheet looked lovely, matte black as described above and easily covered with our own duvet above it during the day which can then be whipped off for messy and naughty fun at any time we like.

The Sheets of San Francisco Black Fitted Fun Sheet Plus is actually fluid proof. An important point to make. We have thoroughly tested this sheet and it does what it says on the box!

After use, the sheet is easy to wrap up, making sure that any mess is contained in the centre, and bunged into the washing machine. Oh yes, it’s machine washable too. Brilliant!

What we didn’t like so much

The Sheets of San Francisco Black Fitted Fun Sheet Plus is cold. Oh this doesn’t matter too much when you’re there in the heat of the moment, fucking or sploshing or lighting and drizzling waxplay candles over each other. Once the passion and play is over, once the heat fades and it’s time to sleep, we found that the sheet was pretty cold to actually sleep on. It’s not a snuggly sheet. It’s a sex sheet. A duvet over you with the used fluid proof sheet underneath will also pick up patches of whatever wetness occurred while you were playing, and a damp sticky duvet underside has to be one of the worst sensations to try and rest in.

After that first night where we had left it on the bed, we didn’t do that again. Future uses were with our usual cotton fitted sheet underneath the flat fluidproof sheet, so that as part of the after-session cleanup or post-sex routine we could just whip it off the bed, mess contained, and sleep on the warm underneath. Cosy, dry and clean.

As it’s a fluidproof sheet, any mess remains on the surface. This is what you want, of course, so that your mattress is protected and you can play without worry with whatever liquids, bodily fluids, even wax from waxplay candles if you like (the wax peels off once dry). It does mean, however, that there will likely be a puddle or three by the time you’re done and unless massive wet patches are your fetish you’ll be wanting someplace dry to sleep. As above, my advice is to put your own sheet underneath before you start so you’ve got a clean dry cosy bed to snuggle, sleep and recover your energy on.

When it came to laundry time, the sheet washed absolutely brilliantly in the machine. First I tried it on 30 degrees but 40 degrees was also fine. Came out sparkly new. After the first launder I washed the sheet by itself; putting it in the machine with towels and other washing meant those other bits were really sopping when I removed them all from the machine. The sheet being non-absorbent meant that pockets of water must have remained even in the spin cycle.

Tips from our experiences

  1. Put your own fitted sheet underneath the Sheets of San Francisco Black Fitted Fun Sheet Plus before you start.
  2. Wrap up the Sheets of San Francisco Black Fitted Fun Sheet Plus once you’re done playing and put it in the laundry bin.
  3. Snuggle together in post-sex, post-splosh or post-filth session bliss on your usual cotton or poly blend sheet. Sleep warm and dry.
  4. Stick the Sheets of San Francisco Black Fitted Fun Sheet Plus in the wash the next day or once you’re recovered enough to remember that such things as laundry exist.
  5. Wash the Sheets of San Francisco Black Fitted Fun Sheet Plus by itself so that you don’t get an extra sopping rest of the washing.
  6. Dry the sheet either outside on the line, or if you don’t have an outdoor line/are a bit shy about having a fluidproof sheet on the line then make sure you hang it someplace where it can drip a bit while drying.

The ‘Science Test’ Video

I wanted to do a little video to show the fluidproof-ness of the Sheets of San Francisco sheets. Think nappy, sanitary towel or tampon adverts but with a sexier purpose and with a distinct absence of any blue liquids.

Both sheets are entirely fluidproof as you can see. Tissue paper was put beneath the sheets, on top of our bed, and the tissue was still absolutely perfectly dry after water was poured and spread around.

Summary

The Sheets of San Francisco Black Fitted Fun Sheet Plus is an excellent buy if you’re after a truly 100% fluidproof sheet for sex or fetishes. This sheet easily transforms a bed into a comfortable sex and sensory playground whether for vanilla sex, sex on her period, squirting practice or kinkier sploshing, waxplay or anything messy. Follow our tips above for the most comfortable use. Easy to use, easy to fit and remove, easy to wash in the machine.

Not the cheapest sheet, but as with most things you get what you pay for. This is a sheet which will survive the roughest and messiest of rough and tumbles without threat of tears, stretching or becoming misshapen, and actually protects your bed through whatever sex adventures you can imagine and enjoy.
