Sundew Medley Glass Dildo

By now you (should) all know that I love glass sex toys. The versatility in use, to warm them or cool them, as well as being able to use any sort of lubricant that I like, is highly alluring. You can also store them however you damn well like (admittedly with the occasional rattling) as well as take them into the bath or shower. They don’t need recharging or batteries. What’s not to love?

I shall attempt to refrain from calling this product the Honeydew Melon Starter dildo, which is how it seems to have filed itself in my brain.

Sundew Medley Glass Dildo

The Sundew Medley *ahem* glass dildo was sent to me by A Touch of Glass. The glass dildos sold here are all stated to be unique as they are handmade. As such, each one is slightly different, adding to the valued feeling you get as a customer and bringing you a unique product to enjoy.

Sundew Medley Glass Dildo and Free Keyring

Free keyring with glass dildo

As well as the glass dildo, I also received completely taking me by surprise, the cutest pink glass dildo keyring. Not only is this keyring dangerously tangible but it’s also a very clever way to keep the company foremost in your mind even in everyday situations. Whether as a talking point when out and about, or just brushing across your fingers as you rifle through your handbag, the sensations that await with your full size glass dildo will never be far from your mind.

Anyway – to the main event. The Sundew Medley Glass Dildo comes in it’s own black satin storage bag with a drawstring top. Storage is sorted from the start. The dildo itself measures 7.5 inches in length, which gives you about 6.5 inches of insertable length to play with.

Decorated along the shaft with swirls in honey, apple green and royal blue, then finished with royal blue raised dots, this dildo is very pretty. The shaft bends slightly, to curve in line with the female anatomy. The bulbous head simulates a penis while the base is flat giving you something to keep hold of and also meaning this dildo can be stood upright. In case you like to line your dildos up on a bookshelf as ornaments or something. Well, you might do. I have done so in the past but I am aware I’m not exactly normal!

As I have mentioned, because this product is glass (borosilicate, like Pyrex. Safe, shatterproof and solid) it can be accompanied by the lubricant of your choice – whether water based, silicone or other – and you can also enjoy it in the bath or shower.

This dildo would suit a petite lady ideally, as personally I found the head a little too slender instead of bulbous and the shaft decoration not quite prominent enough for my liking. Perhaps I have been ruined by the likes of the Icicles Tentacle (which I still have to review at some point!) or my beautiful Devil’s Tongue.

To be honest this product is overpriced for what it is and I would not pay over £50 for a glass dildo. The standard price for a glass dildo of any style is between £20-£40. £57.99 is just far too high, especially for an unbranded piece of glass, even if it is ‘hand made’ and ‘unique’.

I’m a bit disappointed in the product, but it’s fine as a glass dildo in it’s own right. It doesn’t knock my socks off but it feels nice. Just nice, not ‘amazing’ or ‘wow that is definitely top of the glass dildos box’.

Sorry!

*** *** *** *** *** ***

Something unrelated to the product that I feel I must note, is that I find the store incredibly difficult to find online. To my mind they are known as ‘A Touch of Glass’, which indeed is how the website and the letter headed paper is marked via logo. On Twitter they are known as @EroticGlass, even more confusingly.

However, their actual domain is http://www.theglassdildoshop.com. I think for a company which is not yet leading the market, it’s quite a risky move to be known by one name yet have a domain which is something else.

I understand that the preferred domain atouchofglass.com may not have been available but from a marketing point of view, consistency in how you are known is a key part of building a strong, recognisable brand.

Also, during my research I noticed that this dildo looks an awful lot like the Don Wand’s style in pink. I guess it could be complete coincidence and that the design wasn’t copied. Hmmmm.

Along with the free item to review I received a letter asking for me to use specific links within my review, follow links, with different anchor text for each link. This is a bit cheeky to say the least. If you would like fantastic backlinks, then be an awesome company and the backlinks will happen. Placing them on high ranked relevant blogs and sites through the medium of ‘sending out freebies’ is tacky at best and gives me a sour taste in my mouth even before I set fingers to keyboard to write about your product. This is a product review, not a review of your company. You send free items to reviewers in the sex toy community because other customers appreciate honest customer reviews, not merely because it’s the cheapest way you have found to insert valuable backlinks into relevant content and make yourselves more visible to Google and other search engines.

To be honest I would be hard pressed to write a review of a product just sold by yourselves without a straight link to you, as you don’t have an affiliate scheme, and what good would a review be without any links at all?

You may also wish to know that placing plugins on your site to prevent copy and paste, or right click/open on images doesn’t really help. I did this company a favour by creating the above mini avatar for them which you can see at the top of this review. This is because when I review for a company I like to be able to include their logo or a small image representing their company. However this company have prevented (or seemingly prevented) anyone from ‘ripping’ their images or elements from the site.

This is a little silly, as it also prevents anyone from using your logo to advertise you and promote you. All I had to do was type in your name to Google and find the elements in Google Image search, in any case.

All in all, this hasn’t been one of my favourite reviewing experiences.
