Sliquid Swirl Blue Raspberry & Green Apple Water Based Sex Lubricants review
These two sex lubes were part of a gift from the luscious Ali’s Addiction (aka Toy Addict) for Christmas. I’ve tried Sliquid lube before, the warming variant – a long time ago – and I loved it. It’s easy to see why customers and reviewers alike love the Sliquid lubricant range; with a formulation free from DEA, gluten, glycerine, glycerol, parabens, PEG, propylene glycol, sorbitol and sulphates, as well as being vegan friendly, they must be amongst the safest intimate lubricants available on the market. Sliquid lubricants are also hypoallergenic, non-staining, latex, rubber and plastic friendly and compatible with condoms.
Each of the flavoured Sliquid lubes I have come in tilt-top dispense bottles containing 125ml of lubricant. Colour coded, it’s easy to tell which is which, even if you don’t see the clearly marked labels. Depress one side of the top and you can then tilt and squeeze/pour as much lube out as you wish, whether on to a toy, fingertip or directly on to sexual areas.
It’s worth noting that before you are able to dispense any of the lube you need to unscrew the cap completely to remove the safety disc which is sealed to the top within, preventing any of the lube from leaking or spilling during retailer storage or transit.
Even smelling the lubes my appetite was whet… they smell like cocktails! Instead of a syrupy, sugary scent there is a very fruity aroma, similar to some of the better quality alcopops and adult drinks.
Sliquid Blue Raspberry: Purified Water, Plant Cellulose (from Cotton), Cyamposis (Guar Conditioners), Blueberry and Raspberry Flavouring, Aspartame, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid
Sliquid Green Apple: Purified Water, Plant Cellulose (from Cotton), Cyamopsis (Guar Conditioners), Natural Flavoring, Aspartame, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid (100% Vegan)
Although the scent is definitely omnipresent during use, even if using these lubes for masturbation or sex rather than licking at them directly, the sweet smell does not correspond to the usual stickiness on the skin. A lot of flavoured lubes are a let-down in the slipperiness department, sacrificing a frictionless glide and focussing on taste. This is very disappointing as the main purpose of using lubricant, when used for masturbation and sex, is to remove unwanted friction. This means the only real use for those other flavoured lubes is to be drizzled and licked.
Sliquid comes into its own here, as you still benefit from the slipperiness you want from lube as well as having the option of a pleasantly flavoured taste to the lube too, should you wish to use it in that way. I have used these lubes for sex and masturbation (with sex toys and fingers) as well as for oral sex and they didn’t let me down on any occasion.
After use, they aren’t sticky on the skin and you will find that they have mostly be absorbed or evaporated, thanks to the water based formulation. Immediately washing the sexual areas after sex or masturbation remains a choice rather than a necessity due to a gloopy substance left on the skin. With Sliquid I felt satisfied after sexual activities, rather than surfacing from the heights of pleasure to an unwelcome stickiness in the lower regions.
The flavour which is the right choice for you comes down to personal taste. A lot of flavoured lubes out there stick with the usual cherry, chocolate and mint flavours, so it was a delight to see that Sliquid have shown a bit more creativity in this regard.
Each of the 125ml bottles costs £7.99 from Lovehoney, which I feel is good value for a top quality, body safe lube with superb versatility during sexual liaisons. I do still prefer the pure water based lubricants without flavour for most of my sexual needs, but these flavours won’t be off putting or too sickly for oral sex sessions.
