Lodbrock Handmade Wooden BDSM Pillory Set Review

The supremely impressive Lodbrock Handmade Wooden BDSM Pillory Set was offered to me for review by Master Lodbrock of www.lodbrock.com, and I was genuinely thrilled at the chance to try out such a hefty & exciting looking piece of kit. Delivery time to North America & Europe is approximately 4-5 days, and the set came in discreet (if understandably massive) outer packaging.

Although I’d had a look at the product page at the Lodbrock website before the set arrived, I was still dazzled when I opened the box and retrieved the pillory case. The Lodbrock Handmade Wooden BDSM Pillory Set comes in an extremely sturdy and heavy-duty wooden case (gorgeous hand-crafted cedar box) which is edged in metal and closes with metal fasteners. There’s a metal hinge when you open the case, to one side. Upon opening, a not-unpleasant aroma hit me; I guess this is from whatever treatment is on the wooden & leather items.

What’s In The Box?

There are various elements of the Lodbrock Handmade Wooden BDSM Pillory Set, aside from the pillory piece itself. Along with that large wooden head/wrist restrictive item you receive:

  • Wooden-handled with leather spanking paddle
  • Wooden-handled, leather-tailed flogger
  • Leather blindfold
  • 2x Ceiling Mounts
  • 2x 1.8 m Chains
  • 8x Bow Shackles
  • 2x Chain Triangles
  • 1x Canvas Box
  • 2x Canvas Sacks
  • 4x Magnetic Leather Wrist Inlays
  • 2x Magnetic Neck Inlays

Every element of the Lodbrock Handmade Wooden BDSM Pillory Set is finished to an extremely high standard, and the overwhelming feeling I got from the set is exquisite luxury, albeit from gorgeously rustic tones, combined with a decadently kinky potential.

Set Up

I asked my partner to help me with the set-up of the Lodbrock Handmade Wooden BDSM Pillory Set – the main piece isn’t lightweight and he’s better than me at figuring out the various chain/clip elements. I’d thought, before receiving the set, that this would be a pillory on a stand. However, it’s a pillory neckpiece which can be used on its own, but also comes with side chains which can be attached securely to an appropriate ceiling or beam to create a permanent dungeon/playroom feature.

Sadly, I still (!) don’t have a dungeon or space for a dedicated kinky playroom, so we opted to use the Lodbrock Handmade Wooden BDSM Pillory Set without attaching the heavyweight chains to any ceilings or beams. However, the chains are attached in the images to give you the best idea of what it looks like.

The Lodbrock Handmade Wooden BDSM Pillory Set comes with full instructions about set-up and tips on where you’re able to attach the ceiling chains -as well as useful pointers about safe BDSM play, which I thought was a brilliant & thoughtful inclusion. One of the booklets has a full-colour shoot of models demonstrating various ways in which the pillory set could be enjoyed, which is a great way to fire up your own imagination.

During Use

We’ve enjoyed thoroughly exploring and using the Lodbrock Handmade Wooden BDSM Pillory Set on several occasions now, despite the weight and style of this item not being the best for me personally (I have a collarbone injury). It will be absolutely fantastic to place able-bodied, willing volunteers in, however. I wanted to try it out myself to give me an idea of how it feels to be locked into it, just how cumbersome and restrictive it is, and anything else I should share with you, review readers.

Aside from the neck/wrist block of the Lodbrock Handmade Wooden BDSM Pillory Set obviously being heavy, restrictive and cumbersome (the entire point of it!), it’s also important to remember a few things when putting someone into it. I found it was extremely easy for my skin to get caught as the top part closed over my neck and wrists, and it had to be closed very carefully with my partner listening out for any yelps or remarks about catching the whole time.

With this in mind I wouldn’t say it’s a good idea to have your submissive gagged or in any way unable to communicate while you’re placing them into the pillory. A gag could be an option once the piece is fastened/locked on, particularly if the ceiling attachment chains are used to steady the item slightly and meaning the entire weight isn’t borne by/the responsibility of the submissive.

In the heat of intense power exchange sessions, it can be easy for the submitting party to feel overwhelmed by the sensations of submission which could equal a loss of footing or feeling unsteady on their feet, especially if there’s an element of corporal punishment involved such as spanking, paddling or flogging. I’d advise any Top or Dom to go extremely carefully when a submissive is put (kneeling or standing especially) into this heavy-weight piece and to watch for the sub’s reactions at all times – which should always be the case, pillory or not, of course. However, having a massive piece of wood locked round one’s neck and wrists does heighten the importance of this.

It was much easier for me to relax into our play sessions when I was laid flat on my back having put my head and wrists through the wooden pillory block, as I wasn’t then taking the weight of the block. I was simply and very effectively restrained from the neck upwards, and even though I could move my torso and legs (without any additional bondage) this would have to be done with the restrictive piece still around my neck, which for all intents and purposes meant I didn’t move the rest of my untied body much, either.

The internal magnetic strips of lightly padded leather, which are removable and line the cuff and neck holes, do give you some protection from skin chafing and rubbing. They obviously don’t protect the restrained person from the weight and cumbersome feel of the piece – which is a good thing if you’re into heavy bondage.

Lodbrock Handmade Wooden BDSM Pillory Set Review

We really enjoyed playing with (and in) the Lodbrock Handmade Wooden BDSM Pillory Set, although it’s not something I’d be in the mood for every day, or every time I want to indulge in a little bondage play. This is definitely at the more extreme end of the bondage gear spectrum, and as a dungeon or playroom feature I think it’s fantastic.

Summary

The Lodbrock Handmade Wooden BDSM Pillory Set is a sizeable bit of bondage gear, no doubt about it. It serves its main purpose, as a cumbersome, restrictive item of bondage equipment exceptionally well –but more than that. This set is beautifully made, with exquisite attention to detail and prioritised safety aspects.

As the set is made from natural materials -particularly the aged pine of the pillory block and the premium leather accessories- I felt like our power exchange sessions weren’t simply beautifully kinky, they were also closer to being a spiritual experience. Nature is the key component here; natural materials, getting closer to nature, the nature of intimate experiences and being true to one’s own nature.

This set feels like one which not only deserves to be cherished for a lifetime as a deluxe treasure, but which will stand up to repeat power exchange sessions through the years while retaining its resilience as well as its beauty.

Sure, it’s expensive when you compare it to the price of a pair of wrist cuffs, or some bondage rope. But you’re getting an item of furniture here, not simply a small bondage accessory which may need replacing in a year or so. With ceiling mounts forged in-house by the Lodbrock team, this pillory set can take pride of place in your playroom, dungeon or even your bedroom, if you’re lucky enough to have the space. Even without mounting it with the included chains, the pillory block quickly fires the imagination, gets the blood pumping and puts me in the mood for a truly deviant sesh.
