jimmyjane little chroma vibrator cara sutra review-13
Jimmyjane’s Little Chroma vibrator has been around a while. It’s touted as the ‘everlasting vibrator’ as it has a replaceable motor, and as a ‘luxury vibrator’ as it’s waterproof and made from attractive aluminium in a range of colours with a rounded tip. I have the Plum (purple) colour as you can see, but you can get Little Chroma in black or red, and you can even purchase a bling edition (if you’re absolutely loaded) such as the Little Platinum or diamond encrusted types.

The Jimmyjane Little Chroma vibrator was sent to me free of charge by Sexcite in exchange for this fair and honest review. Thanks! Packaging was discreet, postage was fast and all my communications from the team have been helpful and friendly.

Beyond the fact that Little Chroma is one of the stalwarts of the Jimmyjane sex toys collection, and has various celebrity ‘endorsements’ (Women’s Health Best In Bed Award; Cosmo & Vogue loved it and apparently it’s been in some supermodel’s handbag), I didn’t know much about it before landing my own a few weeks ago. It’s one of those sex toys which I feel, as a sex toy reviewer, I probably should have owned and tried out many years ago but the opportunity didn’t present itself. It looks fairly basic, no bells and whistles, and hadn’t made me fall in love with it on first glance.

Little Chroma comes in a recognisable branded box by Jimmyjane; white and minimal and stylish. There are various details about the vibrator on the outside of the box.  The vibrator itself is sat inside a card insert area, and there’s a little instruction leaflet in the box with it. The battery comes included and you just have to remove the small circular piece of card inside the battery compartment and replace the cap before you begin.

I’m afraid it was at this point that my high hopes for the Jimmyjane Little Chroma took a nosedive.

This vibrator costs £91.99, so let’s call it just short of £100.

In the interests of fairness I will begin with the pros of this vibrator.

The Hurrays

  • It’s made from a non-porous material (medical-grade anodised aluminum), which is cool to the touch and feels lovely in your hands. It’s lightweight and easy to wield.
  • It’s compatible with any sex lubricant.
  • It’s quiet.
  • It’s waterproof, so you can use it in the bath or shower as well as clean it thoroughly between uses.
  • JImmyjane offer a couple of warranties with the Little Chroma. You can return it within 14 days (as long as they authorise you doing this first) unopened and as bought condition for a refund/exchange. In the case of defective materials or bad workmanship this is opened up to a 30 days post-delivery warranty. The box says a 3 year limited warranty but I couldn’t see those details on the included leaflet.
  • It’s simple to insert the battery and figure out how to use the thing; no late night instruction manual swotting up required.

Here’s what I was disappointed with.

The No-Ways

  • This vibrator costs close to £100. For that, you get a battery powered, single speed vibrator which isn’t travel friendly. It is not everlasting either; the motor is replaceable but you do need to keep buying the replacement motors in the future so that your enjoyment (?) of the Little Chroma can continue. In this way, it’s about as ‘everlasting’ as Trigger’s broom.

  • jimmyjane little chroma vibrator cara sutra review-22What do I mean about it not being travel friendly? Well, you have to remove the cap or the battery when the vibrator is in storage – which also means if it’s in your pocket, bag, suitcase, glove compartment or any of the other places you might want to keep your vibrator. If the battery is inside, and the cap is twisted on enough so it won’t fall off, the vibrations are activated. This is incredibly disappointing as even a toy box basic Ladyfinger vibrator manages to resolve the problem of having a twist base operation and the owner not having to remove the cap between uses in case of embarrassing “oops my vibrator just switched on” moments.
  • It’s battery powered. Really? A £100 vibrator which takes a AA battery? For £100 I expect at least the standard that other £100ish vibrators offer, especially from a designer and leading sex toy brand like Jimmyjane. I want rechargeable power, not to have to dip into a bedside stash of Duracells as if this were 1998 and I’ve just discovered rabbit vibrators. I guess it could be worse. It could have been watch batteries.
  • There’s one speed. Now, this isn’t such a major factor to me with sex toys, as I tend to just whack them up to the constant vibration mode and enjoy. I know that other people like a range of patterns, speeds and pulses though, so if you’re after the whole she-bang when it comes to vibrator functions then the Little Chroma probably won’t be for you. The one speed thing would be just fine for me if it were a powerful enough speed for me to climax with. Unfortunately, it isn’t. Try as I might with this vibrator, I can’t orgasm with it.
  • JImmyjane state that the Little Chroma can be used for G spot stimulation and also between two people having sex. I have issues with both of these points. Firstly, for G spot stim. The vibrator is a straight as a straight thing. Unless I want to try yanking the entrance of my vagina back into my perineum I have little to no chance of getting the tip even on my G spot area never mind stimulating it. There’s a reason G spot stim sex toys have an acute curve on them. Secondly, this vibrator is cold and metal. Sliding it between my partner and I during sex felt decidedly unsexy as the chill factor didn’t do it for me. You can warm up the vibe, yes; but it’s still metal and rigid, making twists and turns during yummy squishy body-on-body sex uncomfortable. The intrusion of an inflexible metal rod against my otherwise hot and stimulated nether parts wouldn’t be too bad during masturbation (if I could get off with it via a more powerful speed) but trying to manoeuvre it between bodies crushing together during sex wasn’t too pleasurable. I *could* have used it when on top of him, for clitoral stim, but like I say I can’t orgasm with it due to the lack of power. Sad face.
  • Although Little Chroma is waterproof this is only true when the cap is tightly twisted on – so if you’d like to try out temperature play and warming or cooling in water, or even during cleaning the vibrator, the vibe is going to be on full speed all the time. Kinda wrong, and very messy.

I’m really very shocked at Jimmyjane. This vibrator isn’t worth £100 in my opinion – in fact you’d be better off buying a £10 Rocks Off bullet vibrator (or check out these bullet vibrators from Sexcite) which is more discreet and travel friendly, more comfortable to use during couples’ sex and is more powerful and actually gives me an orgasm. That last part may not matter to you but it definitely matters to me. 😉

My personal opinion

Buy if you’ve got £100 to throw at a designer piece of gently vibrating metal, from which hopefully you won’t lose the cap in storage.

Don’t buy if you would like to invest your cash in a vibrator which offers multi functions, rechargeable power, discreet/travel friendly play and powerful stimulation.

Once again, big thanks to Sexcite for providing the Jimmyjane Little Chroma free of charge for this fair and honest review. If you’re looking to buy sex toys online please consider checking them out.
