Icicles No 66 Glass Dildo Review

By Pleasure Panel reviewer Pillow Princess Reviews

I lucked out during the last Pleasure Panel round: one of the available toys was one that has been on my wishlist for a few months.  We added the Icicles No. 66 to our wishlist so she could try a small glass toy. And last month, Cara was lovely enough to send it to me for review.

I will be reviewing the Icicles No 66 Glass Dildo for vaginal use only. It is supposed to be anal-safe, but since the base is a ball of around 1.25 inches/3.2 cm in diameter, I am a bit dubious. Too much pressure and lube in a moment of inattention could easily lead to it being pushed entirely inside you, and then you’re in for an embarrassing trip to the ER. Besides, more people than you’d think have trouble with vaginal penetration, and I think this could be a great toy for them.

Description

The first thing that will strike most people upon seeing this toy is its size. It’s small, by habitual sex toy standards. It is 4.5 inches/12cm in length, of which 3.5 inches/9 cm is insertable. It has a diameter of about 0.6 inches/1.5 cm at the tip, which increases to about 0.8 inches/2 cm towards the biggest insertable ball. The ball at the base is less than 1.25 inches/3,2 cm across.

Without the base, the Icicles No 66 Glass Dildo is about the size of a thick, long finger – it’s quite a bit bigger than mine, but I have notoriously tiny hands. It’s also curved like a slightly bent finger. If you’ve been known to like a finger inside you, but find two too much, this is the perfect insertable toy for you.

The curved shaft of the Icicles No 66 Glass Dildo consists of six glass balls of gradually increasing size. First off, this is a real advantage for people who struggle with penetration: by only inserting a few of these balls, it is possible to stick to as small a girth as you want, or you can gradually work up to the (relatively) larger balls. It also makes for really interesting texture. This toy is too small for me to really feel it (we did test it on myself too, of course) but my girlfriend says she loves the sensation of the beads on the way out. The entrance of the vagina has a lot of nerve endings, which make it very sensitive, and this toy plays on that really well. It is the proof that texture is possible and pleasurable even in such a small toy.

I’ve also tried this toy the other way around, by inserting the biggest ball and holding it at the “tip.” It is a bit more filling, if nowhere near big, and the curve of the shaft turns the ball into quite a good G-spotter (if your G-spot, like most, is about 3 inches inside your vagina). Used like that, the Icicles No 66 Glass Dildo is a bit like a mini-version of the Pure Wand. This makes this toy quite versatile, which is lovely, especially given its affordability.

Glass is obviously a hard material. This only adds to the G-spotting pressure and the lovely sensation when the beads are pulled out one by one. It might not be very forgiving, but the size more than makes up for that. And it’s absolutely great for temperature play, in case you want to add more sensations into the mix.

I am really happy with this toy. It’s simple yet pretty, textured yet small, quite versatile, and in one of my favourite materials. On top of this, it’s quite affordable. If the features I listed above appeal to you, I cannot recommend this enough.

Care

Glass is a handy material in that it can be used with any lube and any condoms without damaging it at all. This means you can just stick to your favourites. Cleaning is pretty easy too: soap and water or a toy cleaner should suffice, but if you want to be more thorough, a 10% bleach solution works too, as does boiling. Be careful during cleaning, though: Pipedream’s Pyrex has a reputation for being quite low-quality, so dropping it might break it, and I don’t know how well it would withstand boiling. Like any glass toy, I’d definitely recommend storing it in a padded box or bag.

Purchasing

The Icicles No 66 Glass Dildo comes in a pretty cardboard box with a picture of the toy on it. The front flap folds open to reveal the toy itself, behind a plastic window. It is nestled inside the box, in a block of Styrofoam that protects it from shocks. Compared to the size of the toy, the packaging is quite bulky, but if you have the room, you might want to keep it to protect your toy.

Pipedream doesn’t have a great reputation, as a company. Their marketing is tacky and misogynistic, their toys are porous or even toxic, and they basically don’t care about their customer base.

Their Icicles line is, as I said, quite low-quality (other bloggers have tested the glass extensively), but glass is a safe material, at least, and their originality and affordability is a big point in their favour for people who can’t afford to spend a whole lot of money on sex toys.

I’d generally recommend against buying Pipedream products, but as long as you’re careful in handling them, the toys from the Icicles line are absolutely safe. And since I know of no other toy that would fulfil the same purpose as the Icicles No 66 Glass Dildo, I really do recommend that one.

8.5/10
