Happy Lola Bondage Flower Review

By Pleasure Panel reviewer Pillow Princess Reviews

Honestly, I’m generally more of a DIY bondage person. There’s something fun about it, in my opinion; I love the sexy spontaneity of grabbing whatever you have on hand and tying your partner up with it. Depending on what you use (a belt, for example, or a silk scarf) it can even change the mood from “I mean business” to “playfully dominant.” I love that versatility.

However, I am also rather weak for obnoxiously femme sexy accessories (my lingerie collection would confirm this), so when I saw the Happy Lola Bondage Flower, I knew I wanted to try it out. Thank you, Cara, for allowing me to review this bondage accessory!

Sadly, the Happy Lola Bondage Flower didn’t really live up to my expectations. It is, in all honestly, kind of a gimmicky product.

First Impressions

It’s pretty, that’s not the issue. It comes in a supple cardboard box (which looks recycled, and I appreciate that.) On the outside of the box, you can see different pictures of a woman wearing the Happy Lola Bondage Flower as a blindfold and a wrist tie. When you open the box, you’ll see black-and-white pinups printed on the inside.

The Bondage Flower itself is pre-folded into its rose shape, with the two black ribbons trailing from it. The idea is that you can tie the Happy Lola Bondage Flower around a body part – like your neck or your wrist – until you’re ready to transform your fashion accessory into a bondage item.

Folding & Tying

The Happy Lola Bondage Flower unfolds easily enough – you just pull the fold through the elastic loop and it becomes a simple black strip of fabric. It is then that the first issue becomes apparent: the thinner ribbon is still there.

You can tuck the ends into loops sown onto the thicker strip of fabric, but it still looks kind of weird, and it’s still kind of awkward in use (especially when used as a blindfold, where you can basically choose between ribbons trailing from your blindfold in a rather silly-looking manner or your eyelashes catching on the ribbon if you tuck it away on the inside of the blindfold.)

Even used as a wrist tie, it makes tying the Happy Lola Bondage Flower a bit more awkward, and it’s less comfortable to wear than a simple strip of fabric.

Material

This isn’t only due to the ribbon; the entire Happy Lola Bondage Flower is made from rather scratchy polyester, which is not the softest material imaginable. It’s okay for a while, but it becomes scratchy faster than I’d like. The strip is easy enough to tie (even though it’s kind of broad and doesn’t make for the most aesthetically pleasing knots) and it doesn’t come undone, but I’ve had better results with a tie or a light scarf.

During Use

In my opinion, the Happy Lola Bondage Flower’s only real value is the flower shape. But even this seems like more effort than it’s worth: once you’ve unfolded it for the first time, you have to fold it back into a flower yourself if you want to use it that way again. It’s honestly really not easy (unless you’re an adept of origami, probably) and it does feel a bit like a mildly frustrating napkin-folding session. Depending on your skill and patience, it might end up looking like a flower, or like a fan napkin folded by an eight-year-old. (As you can see from the pictures, I place myself firmly in the second category.)

In Conclusion

I’d recommend this mostly as a gift, actually, if you know someone who enjoys light bondage and kinky femme accessories. At 15 pounds, the Happy Lola Bondage Flower is not an especially cheap gift for what it is, but I’m sure it fits many people’s aesthetic. For me, personally, the aesthetic just didn’t make up for the lack of functionality.

5/10
